Hi all.
I was looking for a bike to use in office as i work some 60km away from home.
taking bus from my town and taking local bus to my work place.
thought a bike would be helpful cutting the local bus travel.
my mechanic shown me a "Hero Joy"
2003 make
single owner
33k km done
price quoted 22k and can be bought at 20k.
tyres are good
as i rode the bike it was smooth and did not felt any unusual noise or anything of that sort

confirm me if the bike is worth the price as i have not seen the bike before or heard of.
but looks and riding is good.

i can trust this mechanic as he only gave me Suzuki Max 100R- 1997 model which is still up and running smooth with ~55kmpl,
and i wrote a thread about it as well.

thanks in advance
Suzuki Max 100R, from the ashes like Phoenix..!

Query regarding the speedometer cable:

If the speedometer’s inner cable alone is cut into 2 pieces, is it necessary to remove the outer cover also? Or, just un-plug the speedo cable from the wheel hub, take out the inner cable and replace it with the new one?

The reason why I am asking this:

My bike’s speedometer stopped working a few weeks before. When it was working prior, the needle would slightly shiver. I hate the shivering of shivering needles. I want to be it like the glamours’ and the xpros’ as they have stepper motor mechanism. So, I decided to change the pinion set also. Went to the spare parts shop and bought the pinion set and the speedo cable (not the inner cable alone, but the whole set). Then I went to the mechanic to do the job. As usual, he ordered his assistant boy which I completely disliked. Also I was sure that he is going to screw it up which he did. When the front wheel was removed the pinion gear was worn completely in one side alone. So, it was time to replace the whole pinion set. But that dumb head boy replaced the pinion gear alone did not replace these things. I almost begged him to replace the whole set but he told that is not needed. See the picture below. I don’t know the names of these.

These were the leftovers.

Then he tried open the 4 screws behind the cowl. Only 3 screws were able to unscrew easily. The 4th one was a little tight. He kept on trying with his full strength by pushing the cowl too. Since the cowl begin to bend too much, I burst out in anger and told him to stop the hell what he was doing. Then, he removed the head separately and the speedo cable was replaced. Those 4 screws were not at all needed to be opened. He ruined the other end of the cable joint too, by pricking in with a low quality screw driver. After 45 minutes of frustration, got my bike and rode away. From this very incident, I am stubborn that I will never ever give my bike to SVC or any local mechanic here. I am going to do the service of my own.

Look what he has done. How can i open this screw? The other 3 are ok.

Use mustard oil or gear oil (both work) over the screw - from both ends if possible. WD40/Zorrick can be used as well. Leave for half an hour. Then take a hammer with the screw driver and tap it lightly in the anti clockwise direction (in order to unscrew the bolt). Once loosened, you can stop tapping and unscrew it. Visit a good hardware shop and replace all screws to new ones with compatible threads. Philips made screws are available in BLR and I find them good.

Better to replace the whole speedo cable (inner +casing) at once , and it is available as a set like that only OE . From my personal experience , this gives the easiest fitting , least after troubles and maximum life . Before fitting , take out the inner cable and grease it generously . Speedo cable needs greasing at least once a year .
The parts you have left-over are the speedo pinion gear and it's mounting ring and the steel washer goes under the blue plastic worm gear inside the wheel hub . It's important to fit these in as well . Grease all of these well when fitting .
Overall , better to spend a sunday and do these by yourself . My experience with these local mechanics is as bitter as yours , if that is of any comfort . And yes , I don't go to them at all now . You may laugh at it , because right now I am assembling a simple tyre puncture repair kit , so that I don't have to visit those guys either .

As Divyaa has said soak the screw as much as you can in some oil , sewing machine oil penetrates well , kerosene better , used 10w30 okay . Repeat the oil many times . Tapping them is also a good idea - that should loosen the rust . Then grab the screw head with needle nose or locking pliers and turn . Some times a flathead or allen-key fits when a plillips screwhead is gouged like that . Replace the screws . Grease the threads before fitting the new ones . I have a habit of doing that always and screws / nuts never seize up on me .

I am going to ask you all about the two different types of speedo cables I got for my Spelndor+ as soon as I can take the pictures .

Was thinking to write this up from quite few days, finally got some time.

I'm quite sad because i lost many photos due to sudden corruption of my phone's memory card. I did recovered all of them but still lost many of pics. The pics was visible on thumbnails view on my PC and i was under the impression that the pics were recovered. However at a later date when i opened it to see the larger view, i came to know that many of them were corrupted and not viewable.

So to start with i got morning train from Mumbai on 19th of March and reached home successfully next day morning, eagerly waiting to see my bike. It was covered, unused, standing ideal from around two months.

Without wasting much time I met with my parents, have some talks and then went to have look to my bike. Removed the cover and saw that bike needs a strict wash before I take her out.

Here is the pic I taken after removing cover

The odo was at 99966

Took a very long time to wash & polish, almost 2.5 hours. Then installed the new carb that I had kept preserved because to my bro.

Start the bike and it was all good. This time didn't find any problem as I did much work on my previous arrival on October last year.

This time decided to replace both the brake drum with bigger drum in the front from splendor+/passion. Also thought of changing handle racer and replacing fork oil & seal. I was unable to find the front brake plate anywhere. Nor in Mumbai nor Jamshedpur. Thanks a ton to sibun

2 weeks before, I had to go to Annamalai university, Chidambaram regarding my project work. It is around 150 km from my place. So, I thought 'why dont I ride there instead of taking the boring bus journey?'. On that day, I started from home around 8 a.m and began to ride. The previous day had a very good rain. The weather was cool which added comfort to the ride. It was a round trip covering 325 km. I am not able to attach any pictures after several times of trying will try again later.

Chidambaram is well known for Annamalai university and NLC (Neyveli lignite corporation). The neighbouring district Cuddalore has red soil which enables to grow cashew nuts and jack fruits. I am not able to write it as the description as it would mess up everything.

Reached home by 11 p.m

Yes, it is a conveyor for shipping coal to the plant.

A few days before, the bike’s parking bulb was not glowing. I thought that the bulb could have been fused and did not mind it. After some days, while I was cleaning the bike, I took a closer look at the headlight’s reflector. There are signs that the bulb has been burnt. Take a look at the pictures. If I replace the bulb, will the new bulb glow? Or, is there any wiring issues?

No need to worry. Just replace the bulb it will work. Use LED instead of that filament bulb. Mine also got fused like this now using LED

• Spender Bore issue - 31k KMS - 10k for service !!!!

Hi Guys,

I'm posting this behalf of my friend, The Bike is 2010 model Splendor, Serviced regularly a authorized svc. The bike showed symptoms of some noise from the engine couple of days back. So we got it to the svc for regular service , the authorized personal showed that the bike is emitting black smoke, therefore he asked my friend that he would require to open the engine, my friend asked them to go ahead. Now the svc guys have given a estimate of around 10k. Attaching the details of the same. I Have a doubt that they are ripping me off. Please reply ASAP.

Bike has been serviced every 2.5 k kms / 3months.

• [*=1]Replaced the engine oil to veedol take off 4t 10w 30. The engine revs more freely than the 20w 40
[*=1] Water washed the bike
[*=1] Cleaned the spark plug with a cloth
[*=1] Cleaned the air filter by tapping it on the floor and blowing air from my mouth
[*=1] Adjusted the chain, greased it and lubed it
[*=1] Greased the clutch lever, front brake lever
[*=1] Lubed the foot pegs

The drive chain is making a grinding noise. I guess it is the end of its limit. Will replace with a new chain and sprockets when the bike completes 30,000 km. Other than that, there is no problem. It runs smooth.
