Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hi guys
I would like to inquire about the tuning of hero I smart of my father. The bike is very hard to start in the morning. It will only start on the choke and will die after few seconds in choke ad well. And with choke off it will idle but if throttle is a wee bit increased it will die. So will have to rev it to max in choke for 3-4 mins or so for the engine to heat and idle well. During the day it will be fine though. So the morning starts are really pathetic and fuel consuming. What is the problem ? Lean mixture or something ? And in the afr screw which direction should i have to rotate for making it lean and which direction for making it rich ? And what is the ideal number of turns for optimum mixture?

This Old gentleman need RTO re-registration which expired on 2006 :/ and still operable. Make 1991, No major Engine overhaul i think its time to open up before going for registration. Smokes white fumes and free shifting, ran 300K+ in its life time as i have seen resetting to zero twice after 100K before.
Any suggesting on Re-Registration and would there be the procedure? And what is the major work it needs before that
(PS: Might have gone through piston and piston ring with clutch plate replacement 8 years ago.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Press the starter and crank the engine for a while, then turn choke on and crank, when bike comes to life, let the choke be on for a few secs, after which you open throttle and close choke, keep the throttle open steadily and let the bike rev above 2k RPM(Since you dont have a tacho, use your judgement.) hold it like that for half a minute and the bike will idle on its own, so get on the saddle and start ridingOriginally posted by shreezan View PostHi guys

Points to note:
1. It is fine to give some throttle till the bike is able to idle on its own.
2. Dont let the engine idle very low, it is unhealthy.
3. It is OK to let the engine rev a bit high, usually above 2k RPM till the bike can idle on its own.
4. DONT USE CHOKE TOO MUCH!!!Motorcycling Experience:

Now im all free until February 2nd so finally getting back to fix my CD100\\\'s niggling issues.
Here\\\'s what the worry is, i see a gaping space between the lower fork case(stay) and the hub groove.
I tried refitting but it does not seem to help,

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
A few weeks back, my bike was struggling to idle. No matter I turn the idling screw clockwise, it would’nt. It will idle when the engine is cold, but will not idle and shut down when the engine is hot. So, I removed the spark plug and checked it. What does this spark plug say? It’s a bosch mico U4A. I rubbed the plug in a piece of paper and that was the amount of carbon it have formed (picture attached below). Then I replaced it with a champion plug and turned the AFR screw 0.25 turns anticlockwise, and the idling problem vanished. Now it idles perfectly even the engine is hot or cold! Please tell me the condition of this plug.

Too much carbon, I would suggest you to check the condition of the AF, then clean the carburetor and reset the AFR to 2 full turns. And just to be certain, does the bike let out smoke?Originally posted by jeswin View PostA few weeks back, my bike was struggling to idle. No matter I turn the idling screw clockwise, it would’nt. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Today, while my parents were returning home, another one couple hit my bike from behind. My dad was riding on the extreme left of the much wider road, but this thing happened. The man who hit our bike did not stop and fled away. Nothing happened to my parents. That consoles me. But, when coming to the bike, I am very much worried. The right side pillion footrest was bent. The silencer guard is also bent.
I am going to replace the silencer guard. Is that available ? What will be the cost? How to fix the footrest? However sanely we ride, things like these happen because of these kind of idiotic people.
This is how the footrest has to be, right?
But it is bent like this.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The footrest will have a cotter pin in the bolt. Just bend it and remove so foot rest comes out. Using hammer it should be straightened similar to your left foot rest. If badly damaged buy new rear footrest(splendor cost around 60). The silencer guard can also be straightened (remove and hammer) and black painted.Originally posted by jeswin View PostToday, while my parents were returning home, another one couple hit my bike from behind. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I am thinking of replacing the existing handlebar with some other handlebar.
Considered:
a) Pulsar UG3 HandleBar
b) FZ HandleBar.
Suggest me more.
Which one can I use?Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 01-20-2015, 07:48 PM.-----------

The bike has crossed 1.5L km mark already a year and half ago.
Is this the time for a rebore?
I feel, other Splendors are powerful and gives more FE than mine.
But, no other signs to rebore like white smoke at high revs, bike stopping at middle, etc etc.-----------

But on a serious note, I have no idea why, if it were to happen in my case the first thing I would check for is horizontal play, then if not then I would go ahead and remove the forks from the T and set it up to see if the play is still there, that would help in determining if the fork is bent or if the T has taken some serious beating.
It would be best to use the stock handle bar, the Pulsar bars gives better handling but at the cost of riding comfort. So choose wisely, and if its fit you\'re worried about then dont bother, since there\'s no semi/full fairing to come in between its not a matter of concern. Its ultimately your decision or rather trade off.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostI am thinking of replacing the existing handlebar with some other handlebar.

The bike does not emit smoke. Coming to the AF setting, I am still a rookie. Once i messed up with it and had really a big headache for more than a week.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostToo much carbon, I would suggest you to check the condition of the AF, then clean the carburetor and reset the AFR to 2 full turns. If i let my finger inside the silencer, it is almost clean with some black spots here and there.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Bike was serviced today. Had a little problem. Oil was leaking from the 'neutral switch dummy', well, thats what the mechanic called it. I bought a new one from hero showroom. It costed Rs. 10. It was put in its position with a paste which looked like petroleum jelly (i did not know its name).
Engine oil-- Veedol take off 4t 20w 40. I am using the same oil again. Other than this, no other problems. Bike runs good. Posting some pictures.
Odo reading today.
Took the bike for a short spin for taking some pictures.
This was called the 'dummy'. I do not know the name of it and its purpose. Experts, please clarify me.
Another view.
Can you see the black coloured circle above the chain sprocket? That was the place where oil was leaking from. I did not know that engine oil would even leak from such kind of places.

After 1.5 lakhs kilometers bike will require reboring.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostThe bike has crossed 1.5L km mark already a year and half ago.

Your bike is not smoking because the rings are holding well. These CD 100 and splendor series bikes have very hard ring. Unlike todays bike which has soft rings.
So these do not smoke so soon. Consider a boring job as you bikes power has come down.

The rubber cap is not dummy cap but it is gear drum cap.
When you open the cap there you will see a No.10 bolt. When you shift gears it will rotate, It holds the gear drum to the engine casing.
My bike has never required changing that cap. Still the origial in this 4 Lacs kilometer.
The paste that they used is silicon gel which they use to fix head gasket. It is to stop the cap from leaking again.
By the way i have a surprise for you all regarding my Joy.
