Get the original from authorised spare centre or svc. Those are makino or Bosch clutch plates and they completely ruin the clutch feel. Also those will eat up the clutch bell.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Now the return ride. I rode on the day time. Since it was on the first week of january, the weather was super cool. Even though the sun was shining, i did not sweat a drop!! Started from home at 6 a.m. Reached tiruvannamalai at 10 p.m. Total distance covered was 557 kms exactly. Took a lot of breaks inbetween. The problem with me was, whenever i stop for a break, there wont be any good scenic view, but after i start riding for merely 3 kms, i use to cross backwaters, sceneries etc etc
. Posting some pictures.
Odo reading when the ride started.
Ready to roll.
Somewhere in Tirunelveli district (Nanguneri)
Sun started coming up.
Good morning
A few kms after this place, there was a large sunflower field. Since i was riding after a long break, did not mind stopping there.
There stands my 97cc tourer!!
Somewhere near kovilpatti.
Reached the outskirts of Madurai district. Still a long way to go...
Good place to take rest.
Heading towards Trichy.
After crossing Trichy.
Sun begins to set down..
After this, i was riding in the night, so did not click pictures. Reached home safe and sound

Wow Mr. Jeswin!
You proved the fact that 'Even a Bajaj M80 can do Leh and a Splendor can also do a trip around India!' !!!-----------

Updates on my joy
Ok a long pending update on my Joy.
The Joy now stands at 3,88,789 kms as i type. SO you see 4 lacs kilometers is not that far (Hurray!).
Ok as you all know I use the CBZ for riding to office on monday on highways (170 kms, on way), and return on saturdays again on cbz and in between the CBZ runs if i go out for office works.
Saturday and Sunday, all the way Joy riding. Even i do not take the CBZ to fill petrol. Petrol is filled in Joy and then transferred to CBZ on sunday night.
I was thinking of taking the Joy to my place of posting, but this thinking went for 2 years till recently.
Now getting straight to the real story, my paternal aunt was admitted to hospital with backbone problem. So Saturday when i come to Home, then on sunday i usually visit the hospital.
It was on the the 11th of February, my father had come. We were to go to hospital. The hospital is 30 kms from my Home. So MOM, DAD and my younger cousin brother, and i were to go. But i had some work on the way and thus we cannot take car as father would go on different route and i on different.
Since the distance was this much and also mom and Dad will go so they didn't take the pleasure and instead took the Joy( Yes! my father is also its admirer). So naturally i took the CBZ.
No problem, we two brother took the CBZ and were going on the airport road. I shifter to fourth, and then revved a little and shifted to fifth, suddenly the bike jumped out of gear. Again tried to slot but the gear shaft had locked into fifth, but the fifth gear is not locking and instead jumping out of gear.
Rode in fourth to my mechanic.
Since it was half day, so work couldn't be done. So decided to leave the bike near mechanic. Opened half engine, left the bike there and went to hospital.
Now the story starts. Next day had to go to Office 170 km of rode trip.
Obviously no way but one and only, Joy to the rescue.
To sum it up:-
1. Engine oil hadn't been changed from last 4 months. Had run for 3000 km. The previous engine oil used was superb Veedol super swift.
2. Obviously bike hasn't been serviced from last 4 months, but still running smoothly.
But without thinking a thing took it the next morning.
Thought will go slow and thus will get late. But after 10 kms of riding as the engine got warm, the bike automatically was pulling to 70 kph without trying from me.
Maintaining speeds of 70-75 was a piece of cake. In between touched 95 kph before backing up.
Even hadn't stopped in those 170 kph except for once.
Time taken was same with only 15 mins extra.
The story doesn't end here.
On saturday returned and went to mechanic.Nothing was faulty in the gear box. But doubting the fifth gear fork, changed it.
The problem got rectified, and returned at 12 in night on saturday.
Then on monday took the CBZ but in the middle on highway, the problem once again raised its head.
Have to complete the rest 100 kms in fourth gear. Then on friday returned at night all 170 kms in fourth gear.
Next day went to mechanic, but my mechanics grand mother was admitted in hospital so he was busy. I didn't had time as on 24th was saraswati puja( done at house), on 25th was our family picnic, and on 26th no spares shop will be open.
SO reluctantly gave it to service center ( BHARAT motors). Rest all what was done will be shared in extreme thread.
SO on tuesday Joy was back on duty. This time cleaned carb, air filter, lubed chain and changed oil.
As usual ran without any problem.
The next sunday work shop was closed as they were having camp, so couldn't take delivery of CBZ.
NO next week also Joy took active duty. This week took delivery of extreme( all details in specific thread).
Let me first tell that i am extremely sorry as i doubted the Joy, but this bike is still like the day when i used to tour on it whole of Odisha.
The positives are:-
1. Ultra reliable and faithful. Even though technology has advanced so much and what not, but this old tech is still reliable than new tech.
2. Trust worthy- without oil change, no servicing took it without rest.
3. Great performance- Smaller bike will have lesser performance, but the mid range was terrific. Although top end was weaker compared to CBZ but at 95 kph had accelerator left. But pull from 40-80 kph was simply superb.
4. On bad roads while on extreme had to slow down no slowing down.
5. Luggage space- While returning usually returns with a staff. His luggage, my luggage were tied up on the carrier and we two still had space for a third person.
6. Accelerator is super light so that was an advantage compared to CBZ.
7. This time changed to Hero oil on 26th as no options available, and with two weeks of running for 1000 km at almost full speed oil level is still the same. Extreme decreases around 50-75 ml in each 1000 km.
Now the negatives:-
1. Lack of top end. But its not a complain as with top speed almost 100 kph no complain from 4 stroke 100 cc bike.
2. Seat has gone soft over 15 years. Need a new seat work from experts.
3. The head light needs change as the reflector has gone weak.
So in three weeks Joy has run for a total of 1750 kms.
Some photos:-
Presently the wallpaper on my Phone.
Another Photo
Same place where had taken the extreme photo:-
Also took a video of Joy idling with head light to show the sound after the engine has settled after the previous video.
Also shot this video first time on Lumia 630.
The video was shot in 720p but the file size became 148 MB so had to compress before uploading.
Hear the sound using headphone. Particularly when the camera is near silencer. Suddenly you will feel you are hearing Dolby sound.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. Re: Overhaul
Completed the engine Overhaul though not fully satisfied with the service and reassembly, Runs as the CD 100 i knew
Took almost 4 days and still some niggle are left to addressed on 400Km oil drain
Crank bearing were spent and crank shaft has considerable play
bore and piston both needed replacement Went for Rebore
Both valve steam replaced along with the kit
Timing Chain and associated kit
GPD and Clutch plate
Handle bearing
Head light Reflector, Rectifier and air filter
The Silencer was filled with carbon and burned oil and it was left to cut open later, Every mechanical parts has some kind of free play from break leavers to gear pedal
Bore Work was satisfactory, checked with gauge but Unfortunately they forget to Send the Valve/Head assembly for Machining :/bang head
So they went with Manual DE-carbonning and mating the valve steam, which was no so ok
Total re boring along with piston (seems USHA) and shaft cost 2100
Spent 3K over parts still left to replace battery which is past its working life
Major work left Exhaust, rear break line and main and side stand as those need welding as too much freeplay
Total Expense 6.6 including 1200 for labour and 2100 for rebore

Silencer De-carb and compression test :-
So, spoke to my mechanic for silencer de-carb and compression test.
The distinct sound of the original Splendor is lost and the sound became like Splendor+.
My mech said that silencer should have clogged with carbon.
I also said him to remove the core for more sound. Is it ok to remove the baffle/core? Any harms to engine?
He also said to rebore engine as the engine has covered more than 1.2L kms without touching engine. I said him to do a comp. test.
So totally, he charges Rs. 250 for both works. Rs. 200 for Exhaust work and Rs. 50 for Comp. test.
Is that a reasonable cost?Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 02-14-2015, 07:23 PM.-----------

Re: Silencer De-carb and compression test :-
Yes , reduced back-pressure from altered exhaust system shall affect engine performance , life and fuel-mileage . If it's old and clogged , just replace it . Unlike 2-strokes , 4-stroke silencers are not designed for any tinkering , to be replaced when past useful life .

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
So, took the plunge and put Boric Acid into the oil chamber of Splendor!!!
The most scariest part was what will happen because I didn't measure correctly like 3gms/l and all. Just took a plastic teaspoon, and put some inside.
Here comes the review:
WHAT I BOUGHT? FROM WHERE? COST? :
I simply went to a PHARMACY Shop and asked for MEDICAL USE BORIC ACID - 10 GMS SACHET.
It costed Rs. 6 for 10 gms sachet.
PROCEDURE (FOR BIKES):
a) Open the sachet and then transfer the contents to a small box (I used a cylindrical container, I.e. my brother's bubble solution container!!!).
b) Measure 3 gms for 1L oil.
c) Put the measured amount into oil tank/chamber.
d) Keep the key in OFF position and kick 5 times.
e) Now turn ON and then fire your bike.
f) Ride harsh/Rev like maniac for atleast 2 kms.
g) Now you are good to GO!
MY OBSERVATIONS (POSITIVES):
When I was kicking, kicker felt smooth.
Pulled the clutch, it also felt very smooth.
Slotted in the first gear, gears felt like they are soaked in butter, smoothness is comparable to R15!!!
And the gear shifting felt the most smoooooth!
NEGATIVES:
A lot of clutch slippage.
After a short ride, I went to home and then tried to start for another ride, the kicker slipped for 2 times and then started.
And the speed to RPM relationship is affected.
RPM climbs up fast but speed climbs up slow. It will fix I think.
