Posting after a long time.. I am now a proud owner of a Splendor Pro. Had posted my frustrations with Honda Dream Yuga previously. An office colleague of mine offered to buy my Yuga and I was happy to sell it at a minor loss. Had already made my mind to buy the most trusted bike of India: Splendor. Colour: Black purple.
Have clocked 1500 kms till date and I am a happy customer.

    Observations:
    1. Was on leave for 1 fortnight so bike was idle. Self start wont work after returning. Battery down. It didn't charge even after long journeys. Took it to showroom to discover a faulty battery. Was replaced under warranty. Was made to pay labour charges for it. Are we supposed to pay labour charges for warranty jobs? Also do replacement parts fitted under warranty have warranty? I mean what if replacement battery is also faulty. Because showroom did not issue warranty card for replacement battery. They said there's no warranty for replacement parts.
    2. Having some issues with cold starts. Bike hiccups so have to keep the bike revving so that engine does not die but most of my rides are short (5-7 kms) and by the time engine warms up, I've already reached by destination. Should I touch the AFR screw? Or is it too early?
    3. Was generally observing bikes kept in stock at the Hero showroom. Observed that Hero is trying many different tyre suppliers since its breakup with Honda. Previously majority was MRF and Dunlops on CD Dawns. Now I am seeing Birla, Ceat, TVS, even Kenda on Splendor, Passion and Dawn! My bike has Ceat Secura Zoom. MRF is hardly seen. Reason? Cost?
    4. Side helmet lock is not being offered now. Checked with other Splendors in stock and confirmed it.
    5. There were a couple of HF-Dawns with black finish engine like Passion Pro but white alloys. Haven't seen this before definitely. Don't know what model it exactly was

    Some OT:
    1. What is the perfect set of papers for police compliance? License, RC book, PUC, Insurance. Is anything missing?
    2. Recently did a 150 km journey from Pune to Mumbai. Suffered from terrible butt sore. I dont know why it is happening. My back doesnt pain so much. Even I dont have butt sore when I travel for 8-10 hours by State Transport buses. But this was different. Literally had to stop every 10 kms so that I could endure the pain. Clothes were also adequately lose. Possible reason?

Seems like the Hero splendor is not the quality of HeroHonda splendor as it used to be . Because brand new bike battery should not be dead within 1 week.
Reg the AFR screw, take a photo and put permanent marker over current settings, slightly turn clockwise (1/8 turns) and the mixture becomes rich and will be easy to start. If that doesn't help, your idling screw (on left side) may be too low and can be made 1/8 turns more

Oops. My error. I meant 1 fortnight. Typing mistake. Have corrected in original post. But still battery should not die in 15 days...

If you look at the battery then Battery is not provided by Hero, It is provided by some company most probably Exide. Hero doesn't have any liability and even the warranty will be handled by exide.

Even new Amaron battery are coming with faults. That is the liabilty of battery company. So your blaming hero for defective battery is out of context and lame. There has been no change in quality as far as after divorce as you can term.

            Hi all,
Of late, I have noticed that when I start my splendor+ for a trip, the idling is normal.
But after I have travelled say 4-5 kms the idling increases conspicuously and the engine is idling too fast.
A week ago, when I changed gear to 4th the gear was stuck and engine revved too much upon leaving clutch.
            Thanks in advance.
Hope 2014 did well for all of you.

Check your engine intake(the tube between carburetor and engine) whether it has any leaks, and tighten the screw of intake manifold. Also engine idle slightly increases after engine warmed up which is normal. If idle increased dramatically then there is a problem with intake manifold

The head is clean because of the oil leaking which is not letting the carbon settle on head. The engine was blowing the carbon out through the exhaust valve.
The reason for oil seal rupture is leaking compression through valve
                .

Why did you not remove the exhaust valve. If you are removing one valve it is better to remove both and do the work.

Did you change the valves. Where is the picture of the piston crown. I am eager to see the carbon deposits on it. The head doesn't tell the whole story because of oil seeping
                .

How is the bike running now. The dieseling phenomenon that i had said was because of this engine oil. The engine oil in chamber was getting burnt.

All Hero owners are happy customers. There bikes may not be stylish but they are built like tanks and are niggle free.Welcome to splendor family. Rightly said "Lage aisa family jaisa".

No its too early. Let the bike rack up kilometers and the problem will go. If the idle is set low, you can increase it a little.

The reason is availability. Presently all companies cannot cope with the number of bike production. SO the vendor keeps on changing. Even in after market tyre availability is very less.

Side helmet lock is not being offered now. Checked with other Splendors in stock and confirmed it.
You can fit one as after market accessories. No problem in that.

Change your riding position. If you are sitting too straight the butt will be sore. Moreover Hero bikes seat are on harder side. Get the seat added a Half inch soft foam from seat maker to make it comfortable. While adding the Foam make sure to keep the shape oof seat original rather than changing it.

Its because climate has got colder so the bike is running a little lean. Nothing to worry as atmospheric temperature when will increase bike will run normal. Usually re-tuning is required. If you have good mechanic then you can do it near him.

That gear incident is because of gear not shifting into fourth and remaining in between 3 and 4. Nothing to worry.

                  Thanks for prompt responses!

On internet forum discussion for Passion XPro seems to be very low. We hardly have any long term ownership reviews of this bike. Sad to see this. XPro owners please post a few reviews.
When the bike was launched it was a refreshing commuter design and it still looks fresh. Showed how Hero could re-design a bike which is basically a Dream Yuga. Took a ride on one bike and it displayed excellent city handling traits. I am an ex Yuga owner and build quality & paint finish of XPro definitely seems better. Had I not bought the Splendor, I would have definitely bought this bike. It still remains on my wish list.
In urban areas many XPros can be seen since it's only 1200-1500 expensive than normal Pro. But its rural presence appears quite low.
Read at many places that Hero is not allowed to make changes to this bike as per their break-up agreement. Dont know whats going to happen to this bike once Hero's own 110cc bike is launched in 2015-16. I hope it does not die a slow death. Can Hero swipe the Honda engine with their own? What about Maestro which also has 110cc engine?

Speaking about reviews: Some review websites are so terrible I dont know how to judge. 50% reviews will say the product is mindblowing, outstanding, please buy, etc. Remaining 50% will say "Please dont buy, I am suffering from xyz, etc."

I opened and cleaned the intake valve first.
I took out the exhaust valve too but I couldn't take any pics as my phone ran out of battery.

But because of the twin valve springs I couldn't put the keepers back.
Took the bike to a mechanic who was impressed I was able to do this job.
He used a valve spring compressor to put it back...and told me that I was lucky I didn't loose any keepers.
Had a good chat with him for about half an hour,he told me to visit him after I assemble everything back...
Took the bike to him yesterday and he said I did a perfect job and told me to overhaul the carb if the problems persist..

This is the piston crown after opening...

The remaining carbon in the above was very hard to remove and I had to use a plastic card to scrape it off.
Also the head gasket was leaking too coz the mechanic had used Fevibond on the head gasket..(that too rubber solution type which dissolves in heat, engine oil and petrol !!!!!)
I found small traces of it near camshaft and dowel pins.

This time all the mechanics I consulted advised me not to use any sealant on the new gasket.
For valve covers I used proper Anabond Silicone sealant and took care of the oil passages by referring to the service manual..
Also I cross threaded all the head bolts in the proper X pattern as suggested in the service manual.

Service centers mess up good bikes, this is what i hear everywhere. I have Dream neo (2013 HET model) serviced on own by reading manual, so only comment on that, it is a satisfactory bike and reminds splendor all time with mileage of 70 when ridden decently. It ran 9000 kms and no signs of the dream yuga problems like chain gone, oil leak etc

I suppose you might want to start a dedicated thread for your bike maintenance whenever you are doing the Servicing yourself. It would be of great help and reference down the line. Cheers

Even I dont have butt sore when I travel for 8-10 hours by State Transport buses. But this was different. Literally had to stop every 10 kms so that I could endure the pain. Clothes were also adequately lose. Possible reason?
Regarding butt sore, put a towel of soft material on the seat and sit on it. Thats what i do in long journeys. It will never get you a sore butt. Hope it helps.

I am not a good writer! This is the story of my ride last december.

I went a long ride on December 2014. Started from tiruvannamalai at 6 a.m. Rode to college for attending project review. Distance covered was 93 km. College is located in a small town near Pondicherry. The review ended by 4.30 p.m. Then I started to ride towards Nagercoil. I have to ride 560 kms. It was shivering cold since I rode at night all the time. When I reached Madurai, I lost my way. Instead of going towards Tirunelveli, I started riding towards Tuticorin. I rode 40 + 40 kms the wrong way in to and fro!. Then found my way and reached Nagercoil by 7.30 a.m the next day.
So, the total distance which I rode was 690 kms. The bike performed well, but I was very tired. I did not take many pictures as most of the riding was at night. Anyway, it was a good experience. Some pictures attached below.

                              The route map.

Happy riding friends. Will post the return ride soon.

Anyone have idea which company provide alloy wheels for hero ? I tried & deluxe alloy wheel are straight fit on my passion no need to change any hub , brake plate .
In hero showroom cost is confusing me as in last year i got quote of around 2800/- for rear alloy & this year 3400/- how just in month that much increase ?
By the way using HID from past 2 month no issue yet http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...ml#post1124811 but LED Headlight is also good option . http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...ml#post1124809
