Guys I'm planning to overhaul my engine head myself tomorrow.

The valves are creating problems on hot engine as suggested by @sibun.
The bike is not dropping RPM on hot engine if I set the idling around 1,500 RPM.
    It works fine at 1,000RPM.

First I thought of it as dieseling and adjusted the AFR cleaned the carb and still the problem persists.
Checked the choke and plunger mechanism and it was fine.

Also the intake valve oil seals are busted and I may have to change the intake valve.

I sprayed some petrol inside the intake port and brought the piston at TDC
Notice the bubbles indicating valve seat leak...(The valve is not seating despite the tappets being adjusted to stock values)

So I'm humbly requesting all the gurus here to guide me on this as this is the first time I'm doing this...

*Do I need to change both valves ??
*How to lap the new valves(any links to a guide...)
*How to change the valve oil seal ??
*Can I fit the engine top without head gasket between piston and head using anabond sealant ....

I had already told you about this.

And regarding doing it on your own then let me tell you this thing is a major operation and take the help of a mechanic, if you have no prior experience.

Removing the pulsar especially the twin spark is no easy job.

For the said work you have to remove:-

      1. Side panels and seat.
      2. Tank assembly.
      3. Both the power coils.
      4. Then open the spark plugs and remove the sleeve of the right side spark plug.
      5. Now removing the timing chain is tricky as it is on right side and goes behind the centrifugal rotor rather than near dynamos in hero and honda bikes.

So i would request you to take help of a good mechanic as you will not be able to fit back everything.

And in case of pulsar you have to change the valves as the valves seat are too thin in pulsar which requires change.

For opening and changing valves you will need these things:-
      1. Head cover packing
      2. Head gasket,
      3. Valve oil seals,
      4. exhaust gasket.

The new valves need to be lapped using polishing compounds.

So take the help of mechanic and also look in details to learn.

I am sending you my number over PM, any doubt then you can call me or whats app me.

Today I changed the engine oil of my bike. I went to the mechanic. He drained all the oil. Then he took some considerable amount of petrol from my bike’s tank and poured into the engine and cleaned it. Then, the petrol was drained and new engine oil was poured. Is it correct to clean the engine with petrol? I was a little uncomfortable with that procedure.

        • Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion

No, it is not a way to change oil, oil makes a layer or coating over components of engine, petrol washes it away. So best is to just drain old oil and shake vehicle a bit then put new oil.

Man dont go that mechanic again seriously he will ruin your engine. There is no need of doing such ridiculous things.
Pls stay away with such engine flush/cleaning things.

I felt the same way when he did that. I will definitely do the engine oil change by myself from the next time. This was the first time, petrol went inside the engine. Will this cause any problems in the future?

Your bike's engine oil is now contaminated with more than 100ml of petrol in it . Because it is impossible to drain out all the petrol that your mechanic poured inside there , damn him . Petrol is an excellent cutting solvent that shall rob the engine oil of it's lubrication , viscosity and allied properties . Unfortunate as it is , best to replace the engine oil again now ASAP after through draining of present oil+petrol mix ( by opening the clutch side engine cover if possible ) - I would do that . It is from experiences like this I never let anyone do my bike's oil changes .

Get endurance fork oil. The best. If you cannot get endurance then go to Bajaj SVC and get the Bajaj fork oil, it is packed and supplied by Endurance. Else Get escorts shock oil.

Splendor pro has a city mileage of 65-70 kpl and highway mileage of 70-75 kpl.

One mechanic did the same for my Hunk also, but that was diesel, should be equally bad as well !
Bike was drinking engine oil then, bike stopped on my way to office due to busted spark plug. The nearest mechanic wanted to show off his capabilities.
He drained the oil, poured diesel and ran the engine for some 15 seconds before filling new oil :O

Hi satson, Kerosene, Petrol are a strict no-no when used as engine flush. If there is no proper record of when the last oil change was done ( second hand bikes) people use diesel as a flushout before filling new oil. There are different schools of thought regarding the effectiveness of a diesel flush, but I would think twice before using it instead of a proper engine flush chemicals that are now readily available in most cities and towns.

I used gulf and it's now a wee bit stiff .. I like it to be like Splendors come from factory . One of the secrets to the Splendor's success is it's suspension , both front and rear, is just fabulous to ride when new . I got Veedol for my neighbour's Splendor (1998) and it's giving that comfy ride again . So I have bought 2 bottles of veedol for myself for next change and kept it in stock . Endurance was good for my best friend's Wind-125 , but while filling that - I felt it is a bit heavier like Gulf's . IMHO - Get Veedol , fill 150ml in each leg .

Worse - since he actually ran the engine on it - the engine bearings were spinning fast with diesel as lubricant !!

Best is to never try flushing , motorcycle engines are not designed to be flushed . Engine flushes available in the market are made for cars . If in doubt about last oil , better to do 2 successive oil changes at half the usual oil-change-interval ( i.e 1000kms each ) .

What is the difference in the frame of a Splendor and a CD 100? I have seen an old CD100 with a cool registration number (Old style). Wanted to pick it up and then swap parts with a Splendor retaining only the frame and engine of the original bike. Is this possible. Also can Splendor type crankcase covers be fitted on a CD 100 engine.
