Or Mr. Sibun, can I ride it till the engine blows off? I think, the rings and piston has some more juice left.

Poor pick up/economy could also be due to worn out clutch plates. When was the last time the clutch pates were replaced ?Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostOr Mr. Sibun, can I ride it till the engine blows off? I think, the rings and piston has some more juice left.
Also as someone mentioned, get a compression test done if possible.

The clutch plates has never been changed/replaced. It is the one which came when we bought the vehicle and not even touched it.Originally posted by s1d View PostPoor pick up/economy could also be due to worn out clutch plates. When was the last time the clutch pates were replaced ?

What are the symptoms of worn out clutch plates?-----------

Kick would slip, lower acceleration and top end, Higher rpm but lower speed. Diagnosis is gear-rpm-speed matching but since tacho isn't there we observe by kick slip or lower accelerationOriginally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostThe clutch plates has never been changed/replaced. So, what are all the things to change/replace/modify/tinker/anyother to rectify all the problems?
For higher rpm but low speed, see, if i am riding at 30 kmph in 4th gear, leave the throttle and then give it a sudden high throttle, the bike will raise to higher RPM (say 5000) but still at 30 kmph!
For Kick Slippage, if I try to start, the kicker will go limp(as when you hold the clutch and kick, but somewhat harder) at least for 2 times and then it will crank.
A new problem: If you push the bike in neutral, the bike will move freely but if you slot in the first gear and then pull the clutch and push, it is difficult and it is harder to move. What is the problem?-----------

Change them and fit only OE.
But let me tell you that the original that came with your bike is fiber plates and so lasted long. The fiber plates were stopped in 2004, and the last known cost was Rs. 680.
Now the cork based plates are coming which cost Rs. 360. Will not last as long but still will run for 30-40k before needing replacement.
Change the plates. My Joy had also come with those plates but had to be changed at 80k. This was because from new till 35k kms the bike was thoroughly abused by my idiots cousin brothers.
Other wise they would have also lasted a minimum of 1.25-1.3 lacs kilometers.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. No the fibre plates cannot be sourced from anywhere. If they could be sourced then do you not think that i would have sourced it. But the present plates are quite good.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostIs there any way to source those fiber plates? Any unsold items? Am I fortunate enough to get those?

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Just have the clutch plates (both the friction and metal/pressure plates) replaced with whatever is available as oem now.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostIs there any way to source those fiber plates? Any unsold items? Am I fortunate enough to get those?
Then have the valve clearances adjusted to the correct specs.
Finally if possible get a compression test done.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I am a newbie when it comes to the parts and its functions of engine.
What I know is, petrol comes from tank, goes to carburetor, controls flow of intake, intake vale opens, fuel and air goes inside, compression stroke happens, the spark plug burns up the fuel which gets its power from CDI and the CDI which gets from the magneto coil(I am not sure), exhaust valve opens, gases go out through exhaust and one combustion finished.
What is valve clearance, compression test? How does clutch plates work?
Thank you!-----------

My dad recently got the clutch plates of our Splendor changed and he told OE was used which costed only around 350.Originally posted by sibun View PostAll indicates to worn out clutch plates.

I remember replacing it 10 years back with Bosch ones, and the cost was around 500! May be the Bosch ones were fiber plates (It lasted a good 70k kms).

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Just now, repainted engine (crankcase, bore, head) , frame, silencer (silencer and the guard near cylinder) , gear lever, brake lever (rear), front visor, Swing arm(both sides), foot rest holders, foot rests(not the rubber, only painted the iron rod inside), Kick lever.
Colour is MATTE BLACK
This is the colour:
Will post more pics ASAP!
EDIT:
It looks stunning!
EDIT 2:
After a short ride, the silencer got hot and there happened chipping of paint, the nearest part to the cylinder of the silencer.Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 02-06-2015, 09:27 PM.-----------
