Vibration always indicate something is not correct with bike. It's like fever which denote that something is wrong with body.

First thing service from a single mechanic be it from SVC or outside.

1. You say air filter was changed. I say check it properly if it was indeed changed.
2. These old engines love old school oils. Some oils like Castrol active 4t 20w40, veedol HDB, or veedol 20w 40. These oils make the bike super smooth.
3. Check front wheel bearing and Speedo lubrication.
4. Check tappets setting. May need adjustments. After 11k they might have changed in clearance.
5. Check chain sprockets. SVC use old oil. Lube with fresh gear oil ep90. And grease the front sprocket.
6. Last thing bike might be needing a carburettor tuning. After 11k Kms most bike needs carb tuning. Usually I do the tuning in all my bikes. Factory tuning is too lean.

And for rear wheel Bearing, joy is still in factory bearing at 4.15 Lacs km. And front wheel bearing has only one change at 2.85 Lacs.

Timing can be retarded or advanced from cam sprocket in head. I don't recommend it. I have already done it. Advanced timing will cause low end to bog down. And retard timing will cause misfire and backfire at high rpm.

Don't play with it.

We own Super Splendor (Valiant Steed) which is in service for past 14 years and have completed approx. 89000 Kms on it. My Dad trust his mechanic who has literally taken undue advantage. This mechanic guy has been looking after this bike for past 4 years and he never changed the air filter, never cleaned the chain, the oil he put just 3 months back is black like charcoal.

I recently started my own DIY maintenance for SS as I took it over from my father. 3 Weeks back I did some maintenance which include oil change (obviously), chain cleaning and new air filter. I changed oil to Shell AX5 20W40, cleaned chain, front/rear sprocket, chain cover with kerosene and oiled chain with 90 grade gear oil. Then the bike needed a new air filter and I thought that I would manufacture my own air filter with handy material available for no cost. I made my own filter out of foam sheet sourced from local mattress shop and gear oil and some parts from the original paper filter.

The bike now virtually runs silent after all these. I am one happy DIY maintenance guy…. There is great sense of “sukun” in DIY ….

The cost for maintenance – oil Rs. 260, SAE 90 gear oil (I had it), Kerosene (I had it), I got new 17mm ring spanner and 8mm T spanner for Rs. 150. This hardware I am counting towards investment for better bike and biking experience eventually.

Upcoming tasks –
Task 1: Fork oil, seal, seal cap change which will be done by mechanic. I will use OEM material for parts from Hero spare parts and Motul 20W fork oil from Amazon.
Task 2: Carburetor cleaning. I will do this by myself, once I receive my FZ25 ABS (Wolverine) which I booked couple of weeks back.
Task 3: Speedometer cable replacement (possible drive replacement as well). This will be DIY, again when I receive Wolverine to commute.

Use original filter. The DIY filter will not be as supplying required amount of air.

Thanks for the reply sibun sir how to check wheel bearing sprocket and my carburettor tuning 1.5 turns anticlockwise and reading of spark plug is brown

I was inclined towards the original filter. However, as the bike is old I wanted to some trial and testing. After 3 weeks and approx 350 kms, I have no specific issue about the lost power or pickup. I will however remember your advice and keep updates on the DIY filter.

I was wondering when someone would try to mod the replaceable paper-element air-filter on a modern Splendor back to our old re-usable oiled-foam type

I have examined Splendors with both type air-filter , the air-box is different - no easy way to retrofit the current paper-filter airbox with old foam type filter holder .

The second way you have taken is risky , because it's very difficult to remove all the paper from a pleated-paper filter element. The remaining paper is very likely to prevent the edges of the foam from making a proper air-seal , leaving some tiny gaps - then it'll allow unfiltered air to bypass the foam-filter and carry dust that will damage the engine . This is after we assume that the foam type you've selected is allowing similar air flow as before with similar filtration characteristics .

The safest and easiest way to mod the bike to use re-usable oiled-foam filter , if that's what you want , is to replace the whole airbox with old type that was made for foam air-filter ( and it's associated foam carrier/holder ) .

For my Splendor+(2010) , gulf 20W fork oil made the fork too hard and improper dampening . It got corrected when I replaced the oil with Veedol fork-oil , which is much thinner , close to the original .

Yes we all love to DIY on our bikes here , so welcome and do post your DIYs here for all of us to learn from . Yes , I have mentioned this before - for the Splendors a 16-17 & 18-19 ring spanner is essential I feel . 17mm for the oil-drain bolt & 16mm for spark-plug . A 18-19 ring spanner is great for easy wheels removal . The odd 10-12 open spanner that comes with OE toolkit is also very useful , so much that I bought an extra from Taparia .

Sibun sir I have changed air filter spark plug engine oil gulf 20w40 checked tuning also lubed sprocket chain but still problem is there checked wheel bearing tappets are ok but still harshness is there can you please go through the engine sound and tell me
