Yes bro. It's not the tensioner. It's the tensioner spring and pushrod. It keeps the tensioner arm pushed in.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostBrother Sibun , I think in my Splendor+ the timing chain tensioner is underneath the motor , under the other nut than the oil-drain , isn't it ?

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Noob question guys, but what's the function of the highlighted pipe/valve that runs below the engine? It has that partial black colored covering on it and I noticed that my Splendor Pro doesn't have it. I noticed that almost all other models have it. First I thought that the previous owner had removed it but there is no clamp or the clamp bolt which holds that pipe either. So, I'm a bit confused why my model doesn't have it when almost all other bikes on-road do. My mechanic said that it was used on old Splendors which caused more pollution but I don't think that's the case here.[My Motorcycles]

that thing used to intrigue me even before I bought my Splendor+ tooOriginally posted by Bismaya View Post.... what's the function of the highlighted pipe/valve that runs below the engine? It has that partial black colored covering on it and I noticed that my Splendor Pro doesn't have it ...
Now what I know is that that pipe takes air from the air filter through the Air-suction-valve device and feeds it into the exhaust in an attempt to convert as much as harmful CO ( carbon monoxide ) in the exhaust gasses into harmless CO2 ( carbon dioxide ) by oxidation . Still don't know why this chromed pipe needs to be covered in that black fabric tube , or exactly how the Air-suction-valve thing ( also keihin made like the carburetor ) works

Mine's a 2015 Pro (old design). Since I don't have it, does it mean that my bike causes less pollution as compared to the older bikes?Originally posted by Pinaki View Postthat thing used to intrigue me even before I bought my Splendor+ too

Yes , that's the primary reason Hero did some redesign on the old Honda engine , beause it was becoming increasingly difficult for the old Honda designed engine to keep up with ever stricter BS pollution norms being enforced in India . Splendor Pro was the first Splendor to have a Hero made engine ( silver colour cylinder barrel ) since Hero & Honda separated , I think .Originally posted by Bismaya View PostMine's a 2015 Pro (old design). Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
correct, its the secondary air injection system to convert CO to CO2 and reduce harmful gas emissions. Even my 2007 Dio has this (locally called 'pollution pipe') the black tube is part of the tube and i don't thinks it's totally metal.Originally posted by Pinaki View Postthat thing used to intrigue me even before I bought my Splendor+ too

There is another usually a rubber pipe that is connected to the manifold vacuum (commonly called vacuum pipe) and the asv is a one way valve. My scoot once had this vacuum pipe come off (due to a human error while installing a horn near that) and the scoot couldn't hold an idle until it was connected back. So basically the air suction valve has three connections.. one to the air filter side to suck in fresh air, one to the vacuum and the other to the exhaust to which it injects fresh air. The scooters like the honda activa's/dio have a separate box for the secondary air filter (a tiny 2x2 inch oil soaked sponge) that is connected to this air suction valve.
Most bikes have been having it for some time now.. recently iirc even the pulsars employ this design.Last edited by s1d; 09-28-2018, 11:41 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I think the first gen Pro models shared the same engine as the Plus, having 7.8HP while mine was about 8.2HP. Now it makes perfect sense why the engine sounded different compared to the old Pro models. It's the same engine on Passion Pro as well. The Splendor Plus models these days (i3s variants) use the recent Pro engine and a dampener for the BS norms I think.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostYes , that's the primary reason Hero did some redesign on the old Honda engine , beause it was becoming increasingly difficult for the old Honda designed engine to keep up with ever stricter BS pollution norms being enforced in India . I think in the newer model the piston crown is flatter, less curvy than the old which explain the power bump from 7.8 to 8.2Originally posted by Bismaya View PostI think the first gen Pro models shared the same engine as the Plus, having 7.8HP while mine was about 8.2HP. And the torque figure is still stuck at 8.05Nm which is a huge bummer. Smaller capacity bikes should have atleast a higher torque figure than the horses. Honda does that with most of it's bikes. The Dream series bikes are much fun to ride because of the higher torque figures.Originally posted by Krishna3450 View PostI think in the newer model the piston crown is flatter, less curvy than the old which explain the power bump from 7.8 to 8.2[My Motorcycles]

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Secondary Air Injection(SAI), Honda's and Hero's have been having them for a while now, circa 2003 or even before that, recently after the BS4 mandate all motorcycles even Bajaj's have come with SAI unit's. My ZMA had it, luckily my P220 nor CT100B comes with it. You can scrap it if you want but if you manage to mess it up then the unit costs over 1k to replace, I've done that.Originally posted by Bismaya View PostNoob question guys, but what's the function of the highlighted pipe/valve that runs below the engine? I don't have it in the first place, which is what made me worried. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Saw another Splendor (2015 model) without that valve, just like me. This is the 2nd bike I've seen not to contain that. Like you said, SAI's absence makes it one less thing to worry about. Too bad BS4 bikes have it. The emission norms require it I guess.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostGood, one less headache to be bothered about.[My Motorcycles]

am surprised it doesn't have the SAI system.. could you please post a close up pic of the engine area from both sides.
