Hmm , then it is good . Idle is to be checked when the engine is warmed up well , i,e after running sometime . Then when throttle grip is left alone - engine should continue to run gently , and not die . That means the idle jet is clean & clear
That rubber drain-tube is secured to the carburetor float bowl bottom pipe by a spring clip . Remove the rubber tube from under the carburetor by holding the spring-clip loose with pliers and clean it , then re-attach . Now watch the tube end again for some weeks if signs of petrol draining happens again . The sign is a wet , dirty end with strong smell of petrol on your fingers after touching the end . I had this problem too within first year of owning the bike - it got resolved after I cleaned my carburetor by myself . You can try it - I have posted an howto on it on this thread itself .

Actually sir, my drain tube is like exactly what you said. A bit wet just at the end and dirty at the end. Is it supposed to be dry and clean?

Yes dry and almost clean , some dry dust may be sticking because the end dangles low so near to road dust - but essentially dry only . Clean it and watch it for some weeks again to clear doubt .

It looks like the gears are worn/broken. It is better to get it done with some speedometer repair shops.

Yesterday i opened speedometer, i found that green color gear is worn out. Unfortunately was not able to remove same.

How can i remove this gear ?
Can i get spare gear from sparepart shops (i am from Pune)

My Suggestion: Enquire in automobile shops about the part. So that they can either suggest you where you will get or they can get it for you. If you cannot get it go for a new one.

Thanks for posting the speedo inside image. I have never seen any till now.
Please keep us posted about your progress.

Get it done at speedometer repair shop.

Its like wrist watch delicate and composed of tiny spares. So don't try to open it at home. Get it repaired from speedometer shop.

Hello people. Can anyone tell me if engine oil decreases with usage? I am asking because I can see a little drop in engine oil level in my bike. It is after around 800 km after I changed the oil. I am using motul semi synthetic

Since you have already been able to disassemble it , and quite nicely too I must say - must encourage you to find the part . Check with speedo-repair people , mechanics shall know who/where does Speedo repair jobs . Also check if local mechanic or service center has dead / defunct old speedometer to sell or donate . You can cannibalize those . Not necessarily Hero meters only , many other bike meters shall have some common parts .

Request - can you please post step by step or any more pics to show your disassembly of the meter ? I have never done this and would love to learn it

Yes , it is normal . Good job that you are keeping a keen eye on engine oil level - so very few riders in India ever does that . If the loss of oil makes the level dip below the minimum mark on dipstick , top up with some fresh oil .

I have another query. If I want to measure the engine temperature where will be the right place to do so without opening the engine ? Also what will be the temperature range for a typical Indian bike? Lowest value is not a problem I guess but what is the highest temperature a bike's engine attains when running normally? Thanks in advance

I bought used HH super splendor 2005 model four months ago.

                            Some query
                            1. some sort of sound is coming when engine is at idle, mechanic says it is faulty crank which has to repaired.
                            2. lacks pulling capacity after 40 kmph, smoke is coming out of the exhaust when revved hard.
                            3. previous owner has changed nothing.
                            4. Recently changed oil and found that about 400 ml less than what had been used(1L). (shell AX7 10W40 semi synthetic)
                            5. surprisingly mileage is around 70 kmpl. odometer reading around 60K Km.

But the bike runs good on highway as well as in heavy traffic. After changing spark plug I observed pick up has improved. The bike starts in single kick in morning on choke but I have to rev it very slow for 1 min to get it idle on idle. After that it runs good. All these have been happening since four months.

Almost all bike repair shop told to go for complete engine overhaul like changing bore, piston, timing kit, valve, con-rod, crank repair(what's this), PRIMARY GEAR CHANGE(what's this).

If anyone from Delhi could share a good bike repair shop which can restore the bike?

I have changed drive chain set completely(Rs 510), Clutch Plates & Pressure plates (Rs 650), changed both tyres (Rs 3200), Changed Air filter, spark plug.

Please suggest what else have to be changed, replaced or repaired?

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there is some oil around spark plug area on the cylinder head.
what could be the possible cause?
changed the spark plug recently but problem persists.

What mechanics have said correct. Your bike engine is consuming oil, meaning that the cylinder/block/bore is damaged and the engine oil is coming to the combustion area where your spark plug is situated.
And when the engine oil is burned with the combustion it produce white smoke which you are seeing at high rpm. If you cannot see at low rpm, it stills burns, the amount of smoke is less at low rpm therefore it cannot be easily seen.
Since oil is getting burnt therefore you got so much less engine oil when drained.

Due to damaged block/piston your engine has compression loss and therefore it is not doing well above 40kph. Must have struggles to pull at uphill and with pillion it gets more worst.

Your spark plug is wet because as i stated, oil is reaching combustion area. And the amount of oil which has come out from the spark plug hole is too much. Infact it shouldn't have come as spark plug seals that area completely. Make sure plug is tight and threads are not damaged i hope so.

                              Now what should you do..
Well if you're are a DIY person, you can go ahead with the questions on how you can do that yourself.
Or if you're planning to get it done outside. Then get it done as they say and use all OE parts. Getting re-bore with oversize piston cost less but life of engine will not good as new block piston.

As far as parts are concerned. Anyone can only tell after opening the engine and doing inspection what are worn and what are reusable. However packing kit, oil seals, o-ring, block, valves, crank bearing, connecting rod, t-chain & rollers are common things and does require change.
Mechanic will give you list of parts and buy it all from service center. And get your engine assembled in front of you.

I'm sorry i don't know any good mechanic in Delhi as i do work myself.

After you get this work done, the compression will be back. Bike will pull effortlessly that you will love to ride. No more white smoke will come. Spark plug will be dry. And oil level will be intact.

I hope this addresses most of your concern.
