    • 2001 Splendor for sale - How much should I ask for?

Hi! My colleague is interested to sell off his 2001 model Hero Honda Splendor. No frills. Both of us are not sure, how much to tag it for. I looking up to the community to through in some light. I know for sure, the bike needs a re-work - I could hear the rings on the piston.

I am unable to understand anything you said. But xbhp classifieds is the place you should go.

I think he is asking that what would be the correct price for it, keeping in mind that the engine is needs rebuild.

Oh , since its a 2001 model you will barely get 10-18k INR, For rebuild i cannot speak as we dont know the extent of work needed .

I am just short of one zero at the end. Else I am coming close to that mark too.

Wishing you many more happy miles on it.

It hasnt completed 4k yet. But it will complete soon. Its driven 100% in city so kms are very less as compared to time.

2001 model Splendor which is not in good condition won't fetch much. My Splendor's story below.

An update on our Splendor - it was sold last week
It was 2001, September model and we got only 9k for it!
As the bike was due for a retest/fitness certificate this year, the price was less.
And when I checked the market what I observed was used bikes' market is down now, even if it is Splendor or other Hero 100cc's.
All are running for scooters and dealers are ready to sell the scooter for minimum down payment!

And, why we sold the bike:
My father was using it in my native and he was not that comfortable riding it these days due to lack of self start. Also, getting on and off the bike is bit difficult for him. So he wanted to buy an automatic scooter (We had a Vespa NV Spl, before buying the Splendor and couple of Chetak's before).
Also, to bring the Splendor back in good shape and apply for F.C, we had to shell out atleast 7k, he didn't want to take the headache of that.
Bike had a completely rusted front rim, worn front tire, scratched front fork, no battery and rust on chassis in in couple of areas. But bike was running good with a sweet exhaust note and returned 70kmpl in my last 160km trip. Engine was rebored at 70k kms and bike was at 1.2 lakh kms when we sold it off. Engine or carb was never opened after the rebore but it was running without any hassle!
It was our family bike and was a tough decision

Haven't decided on the scooter yet, not in a hurry. Will keep you guys posted.

Our Splendor turns 19 years old in April 2nd week.
ODO reading is nearly 3 lakh km. Showed 89k last month when I went home (Has reset to zero twice).

                        Still delivers 66-67 kmpl.

Once it turns 20, I would get it repainted and chromed as per OE specs.

the only other thing can be that the float-pin is not seating fully to close the petrol inflow to the carburetor float bowl - causing overflow . Things that can prevent the float pin doing it's job properly may be
                            i) dirt obstructing it from closing the hole .
ii) aged float-pin with worn rubber tip ( can be ruled out in your new bike )
iii) the float itself is leaky causing it to sink and keeping float valve open ( very unlikely in new bike ) .

All this shall be immediately visible when you open the carburetor and easily corrected .

Does the bike idle right ? i.e when you leave the throttle on the running bike in neutral , the engine sputter and die in few moments ?

Bike is not idealing in the morning but with chock it is good. I have to give little constant throttle after 15 seconds it is idle.
But at night 930pm it starts with one kick and ideal well.
