Ok then I will get head decarbed and valves lapped but before that I will try to do an engine flush and use an engine treatment for old engines to return lost compression. If it workes then awesome otherwise head decarb and valve work has to be done anyhow...

I have already read your post sir. It was very useful even for a newbie like me. I have never done an air filter cleaning by myself. I was thinking to do it by myself and got this idea. The idea is, 'i will give my bike to service next month. Air filter will be changed to new one. I shall get the old air filter and try cleaning it by myself with your guidance". What say? Thus, i shall also start doing things by myself.

Don't do a engine flush it will not help and it should not be done, not recomended. Get the head work done manually. It will not cost much. But u would need to change the valves and it would have worn out. My cousins xcd got valves badly damaged at 30k.

And the app does have multi tag function as I'm using it the same. Just click on the post and u will see multi tag then click on it will select the post then select the multiple post u want to tag. If function is not available, would advise u to update.

I rode a friends bike today.
He has done something weird. He has used a lott of pencils leads... the lead in the pencils! He made it in front of me.. he made around 150gms of pencil lead powder, it was really fine, he used a grinding mixer..
Finer than talc ... he mixed it with 1 ltr of shell engine oil and put it in his bike! He rode it around for sometime and then I tried it... I have never felt a smoother bike in my life, its so weird... has anyone ever seen or heard about this? He has a honda stunner. Before and afer the oil change was just hell and heaven.... he said an old mechanic told him the trick... but im sceptical.... I mean pencil lead??? Im just amazed. I will never try out anything like this,,, I love my bike too much... experts what and why do you think he did this?

Ps: if its important, he used thick drawing pencil leads that are available without a wooden pencil around them and are very soft and break easily. He said hard ones are bad. He also said that if a bike has an oil filter thats replacable then this method cannot be used like an apache has an oil filter thats replacable whereas a unicorn dosent.

Servicing the foam air filter elements is very easy as you can see . Better not let the service people touch it ( even the new one you buy ) - the way they do the job , they are likely to damage even your new one . So just oil the new filter foams ( they come dry in the package ) and fit em all by yourself . Then later on you can try to revive the old set by cleaning and oiling , and store as spare . It is always good to have two good sets of the foams , so you can just swap out the dirty set and go . No downtime for the bike . This is what I do .

There is a cd100 in my village and is not used since 1990s I think:P:P:P:P it is stored very well in a dark dry room and has not seen any light apart from a bulb in all these years, im thinking of a restoration project. Is it viable to restore this bike ? Are spare parts still available?
The engine will need complete dismantling since I think engine oil would have dried up by how hahahaha...
It has a broken 3rd gear (reason for not using and then loosing interest)
And is very dusty,,... I mean very dusty...
There is also a suzuki ax100 (bad condition) a blue green scooter(worse)

ax100 I just sold off last year - 2-strokes have become too much headache to maintain now . same with the scooter , what kind of scooter is that anyway ? A CD100 / 100SS would be a great project and easy to restore . Parts are all available with Hero dealers and general shops , many parts common with current bikes like Splendor / Dawn . Simple to service and DIY too . It was and is a most fuel efficient and strong bike to ride even now . Infact I am looking now for an old Splendor bike for same reason . Where are you in Kolkata ?

I live in new ballyganj and you sir?
The cd100 is is my village near raipur..
I go there every ear for about a month so I will go this time and open it up and see what can be done.
The scooters body is beyod repair I think it is a lambretta
Ax100 I wont restore. I will probably use the engine to make something else, a gocart mayb.
Cd100 will need minor parts I think, clutch plates, tyres and tubes, conversion to 12v, engine oil, air filter and brake pads. I dont think there is anything wrong with it anywas apart from a broken 3rd gear.
Uncle said tomorrow he will fill new engine oil and try to start it.
                      Will post results soon...
I want to go these asap but exams are approaching:banghead:

The thing that he has done, he doesn't know what he is doing but it is theoretically correct but practically wrong.

The pencil lead that he has used is actually graphite. Pencil lead is one of the best source of Graphite that you can get. And the thing is that Graphite is technically the best known lubricant in the world. It is used where grease and other lubricants cannot take the load and gets used up.

If you have read chemistry in your 12 th class then you can see that graphite has a chemical structure which allows one layer of molecules to slide over another. This lends it the property of best lubricant. So the theory is this.

Practically it is wrong as engines do not need graphite as they need a lubricant which can flow easily and also can pass through small orifice.

By mixing graphite with oil he is actually distributing the lead powder with oil throughout the engine. The heat from the engine will cause the lead to get deposited on the ring grooves, valve oil seals, big end needle bearing, clutch and pressure plates, gearbox and also on the bearings. The heat will make it sit like a coating. This will initially give smoothness but then will cause wear as clearance will increase due to deposits wearing down the engine components. When the engine will be opened then those deposits will be very difficult to remove.

Man! yours is a passion Pro so it will have a paper filter. So whatever discussions and DIY you have seen till now gets null and Void. The paper filter needs to be cleaned at every 2k kms with compressed air and replaced with new one at 10k kms.

For the CD 100 it is very much possible to restore it. All parts are available in Hero dealership, and also every where. But check the tank it will be rusted from inside and will require thorough cleaning and mixing of 2T in petrol to run.

Before starting, change the engine oil, clean the carb and tank with the tap. Replace the old petrol with new one and clean the jets properly.

Also get some new cables as the old one wouldn't work and then you can take it out for restoration. Also for the dust do not wipe it but give it a pressure wash first then clean it with shampoo and the wheels and engine with Vim liquid to remove oil grime.

Thing is the bike has been stored very nicely by a vry old grandfather of my uncle who passed away. He had removed all the petrol before it was stored and the carb was disconnected. My uncle reported that he connected the carb and tank mein he added petrol it has not rusted one bit infact the only rust on the bike is on the main stand legs, the bikes kick doesnot move at all even after removeing and replacing the engine oil. The chain was removed the wheels have locked and the brakes will need removing. But main cocern is the kick doesn't move at all
Ps:- exhaust has squirrel or rat nest in it....and engine has leaked oil from some places. Oil has caked up.
I guess 20 yr storage for a bike is almost killing it.
Uncle has given up but I said I wil dismantle each and every bolt when I go there and not to touch it till then.
Just waiting for my sem exams to start and get over

The feelings mutual when it comes to the cafe racer, you get up in the morning and immediately want to go out for a coffee, thanks to the horizontal engine you dont need to waste time on pr e startup routines, just bring it to life and ride on. And regarding displacement you don't need much, from ripping my discover from Trissur to Kollam I came to the conclusion that these small displacement bikes are quicker agile and more fun to ride. Now that's what you expect from a cafe racer, not a huge bulky thing that's hard to ride in tight spots.
