Hello everybody
Thank you for all the help

M45 is unavailable everywhere else I wonder how I found this one....
He said it was a last piece and was found in his godown today only during there cleanup

Hmm , mechanics are likely to use petrol to clean the filter foams - to cut down on service time . If so then replace both elements a and b , total cost is Rs 85 . Also read my post on this same topic for details - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post633221

update :
1) Replaced the 1400km old Hero engine oil since it was past 5 months already ( current running of bike is very low ) . Gulf pride 4T 10w30 cost me Rs 230 total after discount coupon for this 900ml bottle .

2) [Warning Experimental]
Filled 2 liters of petrol just at reserve and dosed the petrol tank with 3.5ml of this - i.e about 1ml per liter . What say ? Any harm in it ?

Another thing I am noticing since last 15 days is a single mild mechanical "tak" sound from somewhere under or the rear of the bike , chain or transmission or brake - I dunno . Could not locate the source since it occurs about once in a kilometer during riding , usually in dense traffic . Last thing I remember having done is to slacken the clutch cable for more freeplay since it was too tight . Oiled the chain with 90 gear oil and adjusted slack to 1.5inch at the middle of the bottom run . Nothing else I can think of . Pretty exasperating . Any ideas brothers ?
Otherwise bike is running splendidly . Fuel mileage is between 65-71 kmpl depending on ride conditions - which I feel is good .
Rear tyre got it's first puncture ever ( in 3 years 8 months of use ) , from a small stray road nail .

Brother, I could not find Escorts , but found Veedol fork oil , small white translucent 175ml bottles costing Rs 50 each , the shop has a shelf full of it - must be more than 50 there . Weight of oil not mentioned on label . Made by tide-water , Buy and keep for next time ?

Nothing to worry about 2T oil as it is only in 1:1000 part and nothing more. Also no harm in using 2T oil as it burns cleanly and doesn't leave any residue. Also do not expect any magic in using 2T oil, instead 2T oil will only be used for preventing the tank against rusting and nothing else.

As for the Tak sound check the rear drum rod bush which if hardened or crushed on tightening will cause the sound. Also check the rod from under the swingarm if it is loose from there as it will cause the same sound.

As for the Veedol oil get it as as per my experience Veedol makes one of the best oils in market and are OE supplier to many companies. The oil is of 10W grade.

And coming to my Joy bike is running fine but after using Shell Advance Ultra the crank sound is more audible may be due to thinner oil. Thinking of changing to Motul 20W 50 gold for reducing the noise.

Also was thinking of overhauling the engine but income tax in this month and provident fund deduction has left me with nothing in pocket. What i got for salary after deductions can be termed as a joke in the name of salary. Moreover the extreme is needing a head work and also some small minor service. Let me see and decide what to do.

Hiee everyone
Is it possible to overhaul rear coil shock absorbers?
Or is it better to replace them? I have a pulsar 150 old model and it has coiled rear springs. I am a diy person and any help will be appriciated. Over the course of time mine have become harder and have sagged nd have become shorter in lenght also I suppose....

Yes , possible to overhaul - look in Wellington Square and Prince Anwar Shah Road for small workshops who undertake this work . Sometimes it works ok afterwards , sometimes it doesn't . So if money is not a constrain it is advisable to replace them at once . Try newer Pulsar's gas-filled rear shocks made by Endurance , they should fit directly ( unless yours is the pre-dtsi model pulsar with different swingarm length ) and are very much improved in performance and comfort compared to first P-150's .

Had reconditioned a set of shock absorbers few months back. Did a decent job for 6 months. Thats the max it can do. Few days ago changed to splendor pro's set. Has adjustable setting. Dad feels ok with it costed 1200 with discount. Hope its 1400-1500

Agree with harikishen I also had a overhaul once but didn't last for 6 months. It was a waste of money. Getting a new one is the best decision.
Splendor pro suspension is very good even super splendors is very good, its soft but didn't have adjustment. Splendor pro's have adjsutment and that's a good choice u did.

Thank you everyone.
Can I ask one more question?
What isba carb cleaner spray?
How does one use it and is it worth it?
What is the cost?
I cleaned my carb by disassembling it and cleaning it with inside out with petrol and a soft cloth.. but it is very tedious...

Note: I love asking questions in this thread because it is most active and has the best and simples diys that can be done for any bike. If I have to ask somewhere else then please point me to the correct direction but I would love to stay here.

My pulsar 150 single spark plug engine is around 70 thousand kms old. It has never been opened expet for tappet adjustment and changing clutch plates, I have been noticing a drop in low end torque, the engine is not consuming any engine oil and there is no white smoke at any rpm what so ever. My uncle says that you shoul get your exhaust cleaned or changed right now since the catcon must be nearing the end of its life and the exhaust must be getting blacked with carbon deposits. (I do notice a lot of black deposits in the mouth of the exhaust)
Also my engine has never been decarbed etc.
I wanted to flush the engine eith nulon engine flush and then use an engine oil additive to restore any lost compression etc. The packs are canned and available online at 50 ml cans.
Should I go fort with engine oil flush? My engine does seem harsh and engine note is not as smooth as before.

Pinaki sir,
I have the pre dtsi model
Single plug pulsar and it has a shorter swingarm
I will go with original shock absorbers asap.

Proceed with following jobs
1. Open engine head and decarb it by lathe or 600grit sandpaper + petrol dipping

2. Lap valves or replace if very much worn

3. Replace clutch plates, they might have worn completely.

4. Adjust tappets using feeler gauge

5. Check bore, piston and rings, replace accordingly

6. Dip exhaust in kerosene and clean using sandpaper.

Black soot says you might be running rich, so clean carb, air filter and retune it

All these jobs can be done under 2k rs and will ensure smooth functioning of engine

I have already replaced clutch and pressure plates.
Cleaned the carb , tank, replaced air filter,
I have cleaned the oil pump etc also
I have set valve clearance and adjusted tappets also.
I feel excessive carbon deposits are there since I was running very rich for a few months
Hence I wanted the engine flush nd treatment because it costs just 125 rs each

That narrows it down, about engine flush i am not very sure of their effectiveness, its a lot better option if you dismantle head assy and get it cleaned, also check for valves as they might need work too. Ask mechanic if timing chain needs replacement as it can also wear in these many kms. Once you open up head get all jobs related to it done, as opening head regularly isnt feasible. Retune carb, running rich will foul plug and give poor FE.

I did not touch the valves or decarb the head since mechanic said sometimes extreme decarbing can lead to a loss of compression in old engines and a little decarbing is only advisable.
The tuning has been done by 4 or 5 mechanics and they say its perfect, spark plug colour is a little rich but not too much,
