Friends, after my bike getting a water wash, some amount of milk white colour liquid was sprayed. I asked the service man about it. He told that it was "cutting oil". What oil is that actually? Does it cause any harm to the bike? I like it actually, because it gives a clear and neat look. My bike was serviced in HERO ASC for only 3 free services. I dont want to sacrifice my bike for the sake of next 3 free services. Currently, 5 services have been completed. First 3 services done by HERO ASC, last 2 by my mechanic.

Cutting oil?!,!?! If its a rubbing compound its slightly abrasive and shoukd be used on old faded paint to remove a small layer of pain. Ask him not to put any of that thing and just use waxpol!

Its not the oil, by cutting oil he means it removes oil/grease just like kerosene & petrol. And it won't do any harm to your paint as long as it made for only cutting oil.

I still doubt svc will use preimum or specialist stuff for this.

Please ask him to do a normal water and soap wash and you buy a can of wax... turtle wax or formula 1 from a trusted store to get an original and wax your bike. It will be protected.
There are cheap 'cutting oils' that my svc uses and obtains in liters from god knows where, it gives a very bright shine to the bike but thats cause it removes a very fine layer of paint in cleaning the surface.
Its good for very old paints since it just clears up a layer of paint to bring out a fresh layer beneath it
Sort of like an exfoliating cream for the skin, long term use is always bad of this substance.

Its just a liquid. Regarding waxpol, i found it in snapdeal. It was priced Rs. 295. Is it worth to buy? Will it be original?

If you wqnt to remove oil stains then best bet would be prill liquid and water also diesel spray or petrol spray on oil stains cleans them up too.
And yes original nwaxpol is around the 300 mark
Make sure its csrnuba wax and not any cream polish
Buy only wax. I am posting a method to clean up and polish a bikes painted surfaces.
Before thid the benefits of wax is thst ts a water repellent and it doesnot abraid the paint surface but adds a layer over the surface that is protective!

After a good wash of the bike let be wet under the sun and aplly some wax to your hands like a cream. Remove all jewellery and watches etc before this. Now aplly the was to your bikes painted surface in long two and fro motion and let it sit for 10 seconds... use a dry soft lint free cloth and start rubbing the bikes surface in round circulsr motions till the cloth starts to slip on the surface freely and you see a bright shine....
After ts done let it sit under the sun for half an hour.
Sprinkle some water on the surface and repeat the above process 2 to 3 times...
And voila:P

You csn buy genuine waxpol from home shop 18 and vicky dot in (vickys services have deteriorated) also snapdeal is a good enough place to buy too. Stay away from ebay in this regard.

Hello everyone ,i am back after a long time . Splendor was running nicely after head and clutch job but still had some problems like ..

1. Chain was making noise and had loads of wavy movements showing it was at end of its life.
2. Forks were still hard and didnt take shocks well.
3. Engine idled poorly and died at idle anytime
4. Main stand could not be welded as weld was getting sheared off and breaking apart again and again.
5. Fuel gauge was showing full and horn didnt seem to work

HERO chain at the most lasted 11K , while Diamond chain in extreme is still running like new at 15K. So found a dealer who promised to get me Diamond Chain kit for splendor

Day 1
Called up dealer he said my diamond kit from hero has arrived and i can pick it up, got the chain kit
Went to mech where he installed new chain with half axle + nut

You can see HERO stamped on chain , it had horrible up and down wavy motion as well as increased vibrations

Then installed new half axle and nut as old half axle threads were gone by repeated opening and tightening of nut

Day 2
Woke up early and opened forks , this is like 8th time i am opening up forks , drained oil into container and measured . it read 170 ml , no doubt shocks were hard , poured in 155 ml of oil and pumped forks 20-25 times to take out any air in it.

Still forks were lil bit hard which bothered me , In evening i saw the plastic container that had excess fork oil have some black particles settled at bottom , this clearly shows still some
cleaning is required , mech advised me to save some bucks and get new tubes and overhaul forks after 2-3K kms .

Day 3

Any work starts with putting bike in center stand which was non existent in my case.

Called up dealer he said center stand is 230/- , got that and went to gas cutting wala , he cut out old stand and cotter

Fixed in new stand and cotter + pin

Got new horn fitted , it is plain and simple one .

Costs incurred : 230+ 40 (gas cutting)+ 40( cotter pin)+40(fixing) +130/-(horn) = 480/-

Day 4

My splendor never idled nicely and died in middle of idle, tried tuning but id didnt help , so after talking with @shoeb.2015 i (he) found the source of problem , AIR LEAK into carby.
The air was leaking from 2 points.
1. From air screw O ring
2. Insulator between carby and intake manifold.

Then opened up carb and again a nasty surprise i found ..

Dont know whats wrong with insects , insects please !! i have fuel in tank not some carcass in there

anyways cleaned jets and float bowl and once i managed to get air screw out , the washer+ring wont budge out , some how using fine needle i got them out .

This thing confused me very much the shape of old o ring and new was completely different , which made me think whether it is a manufacturing defect or it was a special kinda O ring , retailer was kind enough to give me this o ring for free , as it is rare to get

Shoeb then confirmed that original o ring completely changed its shape rather than becoming pieces as fake ones , a TIP :- ALWAYS GO FOR ORIGINAL IF ANYTHING COMES TO RUBBER PARTS , CHEAP ONES WILL CREATE HEADACHE AFTERWARDS

Then shoeb said to check this o ring and asked how was the condition of it , @shoeb.2015 It was plain like sheet metal , the o ring which is recessed in carb was compressed beyond limits

A mech at SVC intervened while i was discussing about spare , he was trying to tell me that getting spares and fitting at home will never make bike run good

True my SVC brother ,giving it you to ruin is better option to dispose old bikes

so took o ring out of local insulator and used it here , as i couldnt go to svc for just o ring again

Putting back new ring shows rubber will now compress , which i tested by temporarily pushing insulator against it.

Fitted back carb and fired up splendor , dig-dig-dig-dig smooth and even idle like but not like new bikes, better than them, the non-catcon exhaust gives a thumpy feel of strokes , hell i coundnt feel if bike is running or not , idle was that low but didnt die.

Now a problem that has been puzzling me from quite a long time , "The Mysterious Fuel Gauge "

Shoeb and me were trying level best to solve this ,he gave following brilliant ideas to solve this issue

1. remove old wiring connector from meter and place new external wiring and connect to gauge directly (bypass the harness if harness is the issue it would be caught by this ) , tried but nope seems wiring was not the issue

2. use a ohmic rheostat 100ohm one and set it so gauge at tank shows 90ohm & gives 1/4 tank on meter

i am yet to try second method.

I opened up meter and found one resistor was completely burnt , after 2-3 times opening again , the resistance of fuel meter some how i found were

1. 61.9 ohms 1% tolerance
2. 75 ohms 2% tolerance

Now shoeb said his fuel meter total resistance is 66ohms , mine read 150ohms and a friend's spl+ read 46 ohms

Mine are wrong values but two good meters having different values puzzled me , i told this issue to retailer and he gave an idea to directly measure total resistance of new meter , he didnt have splendor's meter so couldnt get reading.

A electrical branchmate gave me another idea to strip small piece of wiring open and solder a equivalent resistor in parallel to meter that would make overall resistance equal to 66 ohms. I am sceptical on stripping wiring as it would create more problems later. More stock = less problems for me.

With only trivial problems such as this meter and repaint issue , 90% of restoration is done.

Guys @sibun , man you have helped me numerous time at emergencies , i just cant thank you enough , truly brother you are an ace
@paul.1911 , dada your tip on closing eyes and feeling strokes of engine to tune carb did wonders , ab se aese hi tune karunga
@Pinaki da , your posts have always helped me maintain my bike.
@shoeb.2015 , man hats off to you ,almost each day you helped me out and truly, you always nailed the problems easily . Seriously , you helped me a lot in this build.

Guys small info i collected by removing the fuel meter . There are 2 resistances connected in series , i mentioned there resistance values above , it has a copper winding that moves the needle by EMI .

Increased resistance makes needle climb faster ( with 150ohm mine climbs to full under 1.5 secs )

Lowering resistance will make meter show correct value.

Will be back soon after solving meter issue

As i have said have completely re-built the engine of my Joy with new crank, bore kit, timing chain, valve and clutch plates. The most boring part is that now it is in running in phase. Bike is running super smooth and running like clockwork. The sound is very smooth and just can say the feeling when the engine is recently built.

Have to get the SAI blocked as the bucket valve in the controlling unit is damaged and the bike is getting after fire sound on De-acceleration. Also have richened the mixture slightly for the running-in phase.

Immediately after the re-built bike felt as if acceleration has decreased because bike has gotten smoother, and also the new bore is very tight. But now the bike has run for 450 km and engine has started to free up.

Last saturday had gone to mall as my uncle was waiting for buying some appliance and i went there. On returning the approach road got jammed mostly due to cars as all are coming in cars be it even 1 persons resultant in traffic jams. Girls are now increasing usage of cars as scooty has become past. They just use car even when traveling single. Ok, coming to the point, on saturday evening i reach home after traveling 170 km on my extreme and thus brain is wired to ride like that. So on that particular evening while i was negotiating the traffic jam, i was little distracted in finding my way out, then out of habit on extreme just throttled a bit and left the clutch like i do on extreme to pull and there goes a wheelie, bike just effortlessly pulled the front wheel up and landed after moving for 6-7 meters. Got back to senses that was riding my joy. Two kids in a car were looking at me as if i was intentionally doing it and were smiling at me.

Ok enough of that, will post photos and detailed description in another post in this weekend when i connect to broadband.

Hello gurus,

Cross posting a member's chulubuly) query from the Xtreme/Hunk thread for responses:
-----------------
hi recently i noticed that my HH Glamour tempted to start with a "tick" sound when i pressed the self start button (this happened after a normal bike service )even though with that sound it started well.but today it gives that "tick tick"sound and doesn't start at all self start works sometimes when i turn off the bike and turn it on again from the ignition key.so what could be the problem thank you very much.
-----------------

I have advised chulubuly to look into the starter relay and battery terminals for issues.
