And My friend once had a 1995 Splendor and he put in Y2K silencer in it and the original bassy/throaty/crispy note was there but it was less throaty(silent). But still it had the same of the old splendor.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
My friend tried putting the old type silencer in his Y2K Splendor (so, obviously it has pollution controller), but the sound has changed only a little bit, still, the bike was sounding like the same Y2K Splendor but that sound was loud and not bassy/throaty/crispy.Originally posted by paul.1911 View Post

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Pardon my ignorance guys, but are we referring to the catalytic converter when we say pollution controller?
I need to change both brakes on the 1997 Splendor at home. Yesterday, I tried braking from 45 odd speed on seeing a cow cross my path but there was no feedback. The front was hopeless and I went straight in to the cow. Headlight broke after the bike hit the road. Need to get that replaced. Also, the leg guard got bent after hitting the cow's leg.
I'm absolutely fine. No scratches. The cow was hurt on the leg. Took a veterinary doctor to it ASAP and got its wounds washed and attended to.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
No, I think its not catcon.
I tried to get in touch with Sibun Sir and he said that pollution controller thing is EGR, EMISSION GAS RECIRCULATOR.
Sad to hear that, Mr. Mod.

Replace brake shoes if necessary.
Go for a round headlight reflector assembly if you can sacrifice that original Splendor look.
The round headlight reflector has the best light spread and illumination than all the 100ccs.
Go and ask for HF-Dawn Headlamp assembly at Hero dealers or spare parts shop.
That should be the best Sir.
Front mudguard bent? Mudguard is plastic, so it should have cracked or broken.
Or you mean Suspension Forks are bent which makes the mudguard look bent?Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 04-06-2015, 10:57 AM.-----------

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
My uncle once had an accident in his Spl+ and the leg guard bent (LHS to the rider).Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostThanks for the links. Going through them.
Sorry, mudguard was a big typo. I meant leg guard.
He took the bike to a mechanic to fix it.
The mechanic removed the leg guard and placed it on a flat surface.
He slowly hammered the bent portion with a special tool. It looked like a hammer but it was lighter.
Then he removed the bend and he costed 50.
But I wont recommend it. That guard already got weak. You can no longer use it.
Go for a new one please.
EDIT: looks like that the link I gave only goes to the page and not to the post directly, I tried again but same issue. Go to that link and search for post #1350 in that page. Thank You Sir!Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 04-06-2015, 10:59 AM.-----------

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
When Y2K Splendor was launched, in my hometown in Kerala the ASC used to provide the old short silencer for Y2K bikes for owners who wanted that bassy exhaust note. It was indeed bassy, but not sure if as effective as running on the pre-2000 Splendor. I see many Splendor+ running on the short silencer with a good bassy exhaust note in Chennai as well.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostMy friend tried putting the old type silencer in his Y2K Splendor (so, obviously it has pollution controller), but the sound has changed only a little bit, still, the bike was sounding like the same Y2K Splendor but that sound was loud and not bassy/throaty/crispy.

I asked some of the head mechanics of Pudupet and they validated my point.
That's why asked.-----------

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I changed the engine oil for the first time by myself. The #16/17 ring spanner was the only tool required. Thank you all for my inspiration to do this. Comparing to all jobs what you guys do, its nothing. I have just started learning now one by one. I looked for veedol 10w 40 oil, but could not find it. So, sticked to the same take off 4t 20w 40 oil. I am using this same oil from 7,500 kms on the odo. Bike has completed 25,300 kms till date.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
My Splendor's clutch has become hard and my fingers are hurting.
So, my Mechanic advised me to go for a new clutch cable for now (clutch plates are worn, bike recently serviced and new oil is running with the same old plates).
Bought a Hero Genuine Parts (known as HGP in my area
) Clutch Cable for Rs. 78 (it is printed Rs. 79 per unit in the cover).
Part number is 22870KCC900S
Will be installing it ASAP.-----------
