How to remove the oil seal guard ring...??
If you see closely in that thread, read the post of shoeb2015 , what he did was took a scrap iron rod and got it welded in T shape.
Then welded a 11mm nut on bottom, It serves as piston holder.
If you are unsure or doubtful , get it removed at mech's place and pay him odd 30-40 rs.

Hello, could anyone help me with the modifications in splendor pro bike?

I do not want the engine to be modified, but would want to make the seats very comfortable as I travel a total of 2000kms every month. I am using the stock seat and I find the stock seats very narrow and stiff that I get a sore back after even a small ride.

Any suggestions ( like handle bars etc) regarding modifications, except engine, are welcome.

Presently I live in Kochi, Kerala, so people from here may help me with suggestions good workshops as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone.
Today I opened my spark plug to see the condition of AFR. It shows a strange reading. It is brown in half portion and white in half portion. Experts please tell how is the AFR and why the colour is not uniform all over the plug.

Hi,
Recently, while spray painting some old generator rooms in my office,a lot of the spray got deposited in all the vehicles of our company's parking lot. Bike surface feels rough with tiny silver particles everywhere on the bike.

Can anyone suggest any solutions to get rid of this?

• Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion

I have a ~15 yr old splendor (of 2002 make).

From the past 2 year I am facing a severe issue of cold start.

The exact symptoms are as follows :

1. It starts as usual in one or two kicks without choke, with some throttle, but stops after 1-2 secs, even with throttle increased.

2. If I try to increase the throttle ( even upto full), it achieves a great rpm which seems to be more than 5000, then stops slowly in 3-4 Secs unaffected by the amount of throttle I take [ in exact similar way which we experience when we are riding without fuel turned on, then after traveling some distance engine rpm drops quickly when fuel supply stops/or when we are riding and suddenly fuel comes to reserve, and engine speed slows down and ultimately stops.]

3.If I vary the throttle between 0 to nearly full very quickly, i.e. 3-4 times in a sec I am able to keep the engine running. But, if I keep throttle high even for 2 sec, rpm will first increase very high and then stops completely.

4. After around 2-3 minute of warm up in this way, I am able to achieve engine running in idle. But at that moment if start driving and take throttle it will stop, so every time I have to start driving by releasing the clutch in quite high rpm, and some how manging throttle to prevent engine halt.

5. If the engine is fully warmed up then it runs like other bikes, but with a lag in acceleration of about half a second after taking throttle.

6. If I start driving in cold engine, and take throttle, first the will lag a lot, but when fuel comes to engine, it will acclerate continuously till I release the throttle.
If I release the throttle to slow down, ( due to traffic in front of me) and then again take throttle to acclerate, bike will take a lot of lag say 3-4 sec to acclerate, and in those sec if speed for down much them it will halt, and if it starts accelerating after those sec, then it can acclerate continuously.

7. The engine overcomes this problem of cold start when engine warms up fully, which is around 4-5kms of running, which is much more than other bikes warm up.

A year ago this problem used to happen only in winters, so during serving at ACS I told them the problem, but they told me that the problem is in spark plug, changed it, but the problem was not solved.

Also, I am unable to show them the exact problem, because by the time I reach service centre from home, engine has sufficiently warmed up, and they say that it is working fine.

I know every bike struggles to start in cold but, warm-up time of my bike is way too much.

Recently from past six months, the problem is prevailing in summer too, in the surrounding temperature of 40deg C. (In summer loo of northern India)

I have one more splendor+ at home of 2008 make, but it does not struggles even 10% of my older bike in same environment condition. Nor does it lag in acceleration although both have the same CV Carbeuretor.

To, me the problem seems to be in carbeuretor, so I told ACS to clean the carbeuretor.
The boy doing the servicing cleaned the float tank, main and pilot jet only very quickly, without inspecting correctly the emulsion pipe and those small holes, and fited it back again saying there is no problem in carbeuretor.

I surfed a lot on internet to find similar problems and solution, but could not find the exact cause of this.

I read a lot of pages of this thread ( not all its 400+) but could not find similar problem, but got to know really great, experienced experts are here.

So, please help me identify the problem.

To, me the problem seems to be in carbeuretor, as it is never over hauled completely in its 15 years of life.

Also, what will be the approx cost of carb overhaul kit?

Is it better to replace or over haul the carb, as I am no expert in this, nor do I know any good mechanic? ACS guys sucks, they dont do any repair, they only taIk of replacement. I am eager for DIY for carb.

What is the cost of new OEM Carb of HH Genuine parts?

History of the bike:

1. Kms travelled by bike is around 80-90k ( as speedometer was not working for quite some time)

2. Engine never opened, no oil consumption, engine sound is normal, but it has quite low friction in the parts compared to my splendor +

3. Acceleration is good.

4. Millege 55-65kmpl

5. Spark plug seems to be okay, was changed 3k kms back.

6. Carb was tuned by ACS guys. But problem persist irrespective of any carb tuning.

7. General servicing done at Authorissd Service Centre (ACS), 1 week back (1st June16)

8. CDI seems to be ok, sparks with more than 2mm gap, and at quite low rpm. ( say 300-400), tested this by taking out spark plug and kicking, with increased gap.

9. Batt. fully charged and in good condition, was replaced a year back.

10. Engine idles well after warm up.

11. Servicing was done regularly every year.

Let me know if you need any other information.

Someone, Please help me, Thanks...

QUOTE=Traveller01;1225803]Guys, need help. Do Splendor & Street share the same carburetor. My uncle has a very well maintained (read spotless) Hero honda street for his short city rides. Recently he called me to inform that his mechanic has recommended a carburetor change as his bike refuses to start by any means. I told him to get it checked from an another mechanic & even he gave a similar response. Now the problem is spares of Hero honda street are not easily available. I searched for the carburetor repair kit for street but it isn't available anywhere. So even if my uncle is ready to pay for the whole carburetor it isn't available. As many of Hero bike share parts (including engine parts) can we use Splendor's carburetor in street. The bike is parked idle for about a month, need to do something to bring it back on road.
As I said earlier I could nothing but rely on my uncle's word (he lives in a different city) and he needed that carburetor. So last month was spend looking for an old carburetor, new carburetor, repair kits, even tried to placed an order & finally it is here. Hence mission accomplished! Thanks to everyone here for there support.

hmmm , I too get this one sided colour thing with my champion plug , which I sometimes use for testing . Can't say why exactly - my guess is it's something to do with flame propagation pattern inside the cylinder during ignition . But this doesn't happen with my regular plug ngk cr7hgp or new (kept in bike tool bag) ngk cr7hsa . Since it runs fine with all these plugs , I don't bother .
You'r afr mix is quite too lean ( which is accentuating this minor color difference ) .

Only safe thing is to try rubbing it off with rags & kerosene/turpentine-oil/paint oil . Scraping with fingernails or a credit-card may help . Then normal mild detergent & wash .

Why not swap the carburetor with that of the good bike and check your hunch ?

Condition and service of air-filter ? Engine oil type used ? who filled ? how much ? Rotor-filter & mesh cleaned ? Condition of exhaust pipe ? Spark-plug cap ever replaced ? Valve tappets adjusted ?

2mm spark-jump is too little current . With plug-cable end bared and a healthy kick , a good blue spark should jump about a cm across to the frame/case(ground) .

The carburetor on street is a bit different than the ones that we have on our bikes. I haven't seen its location on the bike but the knob for fuel on/off is integrated on the carburetor. I got it from an automobile spares shop who had one in old stock. The price I paid was 3800/- I was told it had an MRP of 5500/- which I found hard to believe. Anyways this is my gift to my uncle, who had lost hope in bringing his 15 year old companion back to life.

Thanks for you valuable reply sir. My bike has done 1300+ kms since service and engine oil has become dark and sticky. Ride has also become a bit harsh, not as smooth as before. So I will be going for service soon. I will try to get a NGK CR7HSA if its available in service centre. Also would get carb tuned and then check if it happens with ngk too.

Thank you . Yes , you know what this carb looks like ? It looks exactly same as the keihins fitted on Japanese & USA Honda Cub

This tuning is good enough ! You see that nice brown colour on the plug's ground strap ? That's what we want .

From my experience with the ASCs , I doubt they'll do through carburetor cleaning . All they usually do is take off the bottom bowl and the jets and clean them out and refit , with the carb still fitted to engine . This will do a fair job . For through job , you'll have to DIY .

Get my best plug , the NGK CR7H-GP . It's a GPower plug costing around Rs 150 but surely you'll not get at service center - look for good reliable shop . I say it's best because it's a sure starter & never needs any cleaning or any adjustment - just fit and forget . Otherwise performance of the normal CR7H-SA is equal . My preference for NGKs is because all my earlier Yamahas & present Hero_Honda came with NGKs from factory .

2mm spark-jump is too little current . With plug-cable end bared and a healthy kick , a good blue spark should jump about a cm across to the frame/case(ground) .
Thank you Pinaki Sir for the reply and suggestions.

Earlier I had thought of swapping the carbeuretors, but feared that I may mesh up with by butter smooth Splendor+, and I need O ring kits to do so, but after seeing ACS guys doing carb clean so ruthlessly, I think I can swap and check the difference.

Other informations asked by you are as follows :
1. Both air filters ( Yellow and Black sponges ) have been replaced in the recent servicing, due to some cuts in the filters annoying rats at my home.
2. Engine oil used is 10W30SJ ( 4T Plus, Priced : Rs 287.51 ). Oil is filled by the ACS guy, he emptied the complete bottle of oil, I think it was 900ml.
3. Oil filter is not cleaned in the recent servicing although clutch plate was changed, I don't think those ACS guys ever clean the oil filters. (I don't know what is Rotor filter & Mesh, is it oil filter inside the crank case? )
4. Exhaust pipe seems to be okay, the ACS supervisor checked it touching/feeling the carbon deposit in the silencer, as he suspected oil burning when I told the problem, he said its OK.
5. Spark plug Cap is never replaced. But spark plug was replaced 1 year back, but it had no effect on the problem.
6. Valve tappets are also not adjusted in the recent 2 servicing, earlier my father used to take the bike to servicing, but I guess ACS guys rarely do any extra work in servicing.
7. The ignition system is passing current through about 1cm to ground/chasis. (I checked it today and got a shock too, when kept ground too far, probably current got the path through me )
