  • Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion

Earlier I had thought of swapping the carbeuretors, but feared that I may mesh up with by butter smooth Splendor+, and I need O ring kits to do so, but after seeing ACS guys doing carb clean so ruthlessly, I think I can swap and check the difference.
You dont need any o ring set for carb service. Although you might need the one which in placed on intake manifold side of carb . That tends to deform over time and one in air screw , which again deforms after 4-5yrs.

Other informations asked by you are as follows :
    1. Both air filters ( Yellow and Black sponges ) have been replaced in the recent servicing, due to some cuts in the filters annoying rats at my home.
Lubricate the black mesh with oil .

Engine oil used is 10W30SJ ( 4T Plus, Priced : Rs 287.51 ). Oil is filled by the ACS guy, he emptied the complete bottle of oil, I think it was 900ml.
Filling capacity is 1L i believe in case of clutch cover removal.

Oil filter is not cleaned in the recent servicing although clutch plate was changed, I don't think those ACS guys ever clean the oil filters. (I don't know what is Rotor filter & Mesh, is it oil filter inside the crank case? )
Its a strainer below clutch plate assy. SVC never bothers to clean it or open it.

Exhaust pipe seems to be okay, the ACS supervisor checked it touching/feeling the carbon deposit in the silencer, as he suspected oil burning when I told the problem, he said its OK.
Check spark plug for oil burning first.

Spark plug Cap is never replaced. But spark plug was replaced 1 year back, but it had no effect on the problem.
Still, its better to be on safe side.

Valve tappets are also not adjusted in the recent 2 servicing, earlier my father used to take the bike to servicing, but I guess ACS guys rarely do any extra work in servicing.
Get it done from outside mech, or look up vids on youtube.

The ignition system is passing current through about 1cm to ground/chasis. (I checked it today and got a shock too, when kept ground too far, probably current got the path through me )
Wear rubber slippers or gloves while working on ignitions. Also if spark is weak , you need to change charging coil ( in magneto assy ) , ignition coil ( under tank ) and pickup coil .
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

They gave you a book with your bike ? Take time to read it out carefully , comparing each page with your bike's parts . If you don't have that owner's manual , buy it immediately from nearest Hero parts shop .

      Do these by yourself -

      1) check if oil filter foams are correctly oiled and fitted . replace the foams if they are deteriorated .
      2) check oil level with dipstick .
      3) trim the cable a bit & replace the plug cap with OE part . it just screws into the plug cable .
      4) take off the bottom chaincase cover , brush the chain well with a toothbrush soaked in EP90 gear oil . check chain slack .
      5) take out and lubricate speedometer cable inner with grease . false readings give false impressions

After running 1500kms on this oil , buy a clutch side gasket & a bottle of oil from hero shop then go to a good mechanic -

      1) ask mechanic to open clutch side cover and clean out the rotor filter and mesh . check to confirm oil passage .
      2) by this time engine shall be cold . get valve tappets adjusted on cold engine .
      3) adjust clutch-lever free play .
      4) remove both wheels and check condition of wheel & sprocket bearings , grease them . grease speedo pinion & worm gear . clean brake drums and pads . replace pads with OE part if necessary . check condition of cush-drive rubbers , replace with OE part if deteriorated .

After this you can attempt swapping the carburetors , there is no chance of any harm to the carb unless you force some part to break it . no o-rings needed for this .

This oil is really good one for those of us who run 20w40 . Old bearing is quite shot . Is that the new bearing you bought next to the old one ?

Are those the sprocket(big one) and the wheel bearing? Did you swap the bearings yourself? If you did it,did you improvise a tool to install the new bearings, please share the process? Sorry for so many questions.

                  Hi,

My friend's CD100 deluxe 1992 model is making abnormal engine sounds. It is making a chit chit sound continuously.

The above link shows the sound.

Any idea what could be the issue? The bike recently had a lot of parts replaced.

THE 1st one bearing is the old sproket bearing and next is my old wheel bearing.

Yes the 1st one is sproket bearing(6203) and the second one under it is wheel bearing (6301). I use 24mm socket and an hammer for drive the bearing ito flange.
                    1. Remove the flange(sproket holder) from swing arm.
                    2. Remove sleeve , collar and dust seal.I use a flat screwdriver for removing dust seal.
                    3. Then remove the bearing from flange. For this I use wooden handle of my hammer.
                    4. After this clean the flange, sproket, collar ,and sleeve using kerosene/petrol/diesel.
                    5. Put some amount of grease on bearing and flange .
                    6. Place the bearing on flange and hammering on outer race equally and lightly with care full.If hammer on inner race cause to damaging the bearing.
after reaching the bearing on the level of flange use socket to drive it in to flange. Place socket on outer race and hammer on it.Also we can use old wheel bearing for driving the new sproket bearing .
7.Then install back the dust seal, sleeve and collar to flange then install to swing arm.

I donot know it is a correct method .
I only hear about bearing puller, for removing bearing. But I don't know about ,there is a special tool for installing the bearing .

Sorry for bad explanation .I can't express on the words by typing.

Method is very correct . I was wondering if they are giving sealed bearings for sprocket now or open one . I saw Bajaj using sealed ones . Please if you can keep and post some photos also next time , shall be very helpful for us .

                          Friend,
Is its tappet adjusted ?large gap also cause continuous tappet noise.
                          How is timing chain ?

Thanks for replying. Tappet was adjusted correctly.

And the timing chain was recently replaced. Actually many parts were replaced in his engine.

                            I'm guessing it's loose tappets.

What should be the tappet clearance measurement for super splendor?
After about 50kmph speed, the engine sound becomes more harsh? Have ridden around 1000 km since engine overhaul.

Yes, it appears to be the tappets incorrectly adjusted. Set the valve clearance to 0.01mm. Use a feeler gauge, and do this when the engine is cold. Mechanics confidently do it without using a feeler gauge and nonchalantly argue that everything's fine.
