A better oil in 10w30 is Gulf 4T Synth . Replace air-filter if old . Oil chain (EP90 gear oil) and adjust to correct slack . Get centrifugal-filter and mesh cleaned from service center and tappets gap adjusted . Grease wheel bearings and sprocket carrier bearings , replace if any play . Service forks & steering bearings . For better performance @ 60 -90 kmph - carburetor may need cleaning and adjustment . Use AddonP from indianoil pump with normal petrol @ 1ml per liter .
      Thanks you both for suggestions
I have serviced the bike at SVC earlier Saturday with Points mentioned by Pinki Da
Bike feels smoother and screams less 70kmph+.
Vibrations have reduced and Bike feels responsive and better than before.
I have been feeling reduced braking even after adjusting the Brakes, SVC person clarified that all Super Splendor Models Braking issue exist. (Unsure about fact)

Am not trying to increase speed above 60 due to control issue but is it possible to increase ride smoothness by changing front sprocket...?

Chains won't last long in Kerala conditions.. We have to face alternate hills and valleys while driving...forces to down gears..a lot of curves wil also there..even to first gear with pillion in countryside roads..

usually, chains will out in 30-35k km..

.as per your advice I will only change chain and sprocket as a set..

for cutting the chain.. will it create a noisy drive...??
You can play with sprockets to move to a taller gear ratio. It may give you a bit relaxed ride due to low engine rpm for the same speed, but the acceleration will take a hit.
Regarding chain, if you take care of chain by cleaning and lubing it will really last longer, more than 35k kms for sure
Removing the link won't cause any noise as such. I had to remove a link of my Hunk's chain once, and I did around 7k kms (mostly in city, occasional highway rides) before replacing the kit later. But again, chain-sprocket kit is cheaper to buy

          Hello everyone,
Today there was heavy downpour and my bike was standing in rain. After the rain stopped, I started my bike and to my surprise there was huge missing/hiccups. Bike was starting easily in one kick but when gave throttle engine was stalling.

I want to know why this was happening. Carb issue is ruled out because even after starting my bike after 4-5 hours of standing idle there was no missing before. Is this happening because of water entering spark plug area? My spark plug and plug cap both are OE. And please tell me how to prevent this problem in future.

          Thanks

Edit: The rain again started just when I had started riding. After riding about 2-3 kms, the missing/hiccups vanished. Then again after half an hour I started the bike (it was still raining) this time there was no missing. So I think it was due to cold weather? Please tell me why it happened. Was this because of cold weather or something else?

Also accelerator has become tight after rain.

I think it is an ignition issue..may spark plug, plug cap,or even ignition keyset...never mind on that..sometime this occur...take issue serious if it occurs again..

Incorrect info by service person , My Splendor+ has 130mm front & 110mm rear brakes while SuperSplendor has 130mm on both wheels . I have ridden that configuration earlier on my Yamaha RXs and Crux . 130mm on both wheels gives superb braking ! Check condition of brake drum , shoes and cam .

And read this link - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post887366

What I meant is wheel-bearings , the sprocket-bearing , steering bearings needs inspection & greasing from time to time . And forks need cleaning , fresh fork-oil and seals . Try get these done , they are often-ignored but necessary service .

                    Sprocket carrier removed

                    Bearing greased

                    Wheel bearing

                    Greasing

                    fork cleaning

                    fork oil

                    and new fork oil-seals

like that , you get the idea

Any problem occurring after rain or water-wash is electrical in nature and because ignition sparks go missing . It may be due to wet-ignition coil shorting out , frayed ignition cable or plug cap etc etc - anything that goes into making the plug spark . Quite pesky , I have really suffered from electrical gremlins from time to time and really go , So on this bike painted the whole ignition coil with anti-rust primer and keep strict check on cable , plug caps and keep a new ngk for spare in the bike toolbox at all times . Also bought a fluke-101 to hunt them down . Fingers crossed .

No harm to carb because you can always clean it out from time to time . No way it can get into engine past the carb bowl . But it shall keep clogging up the petcock , fuel line & carburetor until you replace the tank . This amount of rust particles is too much - carb shall clog up soon , only solution to rusty tank is replacement .

Pinaki ji, I have a question regarding the forks. The manuals only call for an fork oil change every 10k in my GS. Can I just remove the forks, drain old oil, flush with kerosene and fill new oil (or) does one have to remove the Allen key in the every bottom of the beefier fork leg and dismantle the internals - the thing is I don't have the special tool - the T shaped one to insert inside the fork and hold the piston-assembly for removing the Allen key.

That's good , I asked because from that spark-plug pic you posted it appears that your bike is running lean mixture . i.e more air . With carb air-screw at only 1.5 turns out I am not sure how it is getting so much air . Next thing to check is the air-screw itself and it's tiny o-ring and washer - for leaks . Hopefully you ensured that the tiny holes on both the idle-jet & main-jet are perfectly clear ?

Yes my manual also same - 10K kms it says . I usually attend to it every 3 years - old oil stinks badly by then . Yes , I know that long rod with tapered square end - you'll need it , it's around Rs 100 anywhere bike shops are abundant . I got mine from a footpath vendor in wellington-square here in kolkata . Also get that allen-key , single one will do fine , taparia's brown keys are the best . See brother , what happens is in few years of constant compress-depress action , crud accumulates inside the fork legs and since the fork stays vertical , it all settles down right at the bottom and hardens up there . No way you can fully clean that out without dismantling the fork fully , even dismantled you'll need long screwdriver or something like that to poke it out . If you put in fresh oil without through cleaning the old sticky crud can loosen up in the fresh oil . Fork works by the oil passing between two chambers thru tiny holes , once these get clogged and there goes your fork action .

Brother Jishnu , I'll try update this post with pic & measurements you ask by tomorrow ...

                                update :

this is a pic of my fork special tool , it is 23 inch total length .

the head has a part square( four sides ) taper welded on to it like this

you'd not need any dimensions , Hero Splendor is still the highest sold motorcycle in India . Just tell the person selling it your bike name
To see how it's used the best thing I can suggest is make friends with a local mechanic and visit his shop sometimes . You can pick up a awful lot of skills just by hanging around & watching . If you ask politely , they'll happily show you . Bike jobs are difficult to explain in words , easier when you try them , easiest when you've seen them done and have a visual guide in memory . This is what I do

The oil-seal lock and seal itself both is carefully pried out with a flat screwdriver used as a lever . Use a cloth or something like a piece of inner-tube rubber on the edge where you fulcrum the screwdriver and be careful not to wedge the screwdriver blade in hard against the metal inside the fork bottom tube , lest you cause a scratch . When new oil seal is driven in , use a piece of pvc pipe just smaller that the bottom tube to push it in and seat . Apply a bit of fork oil with finger before so the new seal shall just slip in easy .
