Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
AF mix is excellent . I never seem to get this brown colour on my plugs , very nice . You'll get fuel mileage of around 70kmpl , if you fill a liter and burn it in same run on free roads . Repeated start-stop , running in city traffic in low gears and frequent clutch & brake usage , keeping the fuel in tank for many days , standing bike in sun , less than ideal tyre pressure , worn / not-lubed / incorrect slack chain & sprocket , bit worn clutch etc etc factors shall all drive the actual kmpl down , but we cannot always avoid all these so 60kmpl is good enough . Plug center electrode seems bit worn , how many kms on it ?Originally posted by ybedekar View Post... A lean running 4t bike should have a more whitish brown tint. I think the bike can go a bit leaner than what it is running right now.

My CD Dawn is making strange noise. It seems it may have crack/hole on pipe near flange we bolt it to cylinder.
Should i weld it ? other option mechanic told to change almost 1 inch pipe with new one to make it trouble free.
Any suggestion from experts.
how can we avoid such in future ?

As for spark plug, i am not saying of spark.Originally posted by pranab View PostI really regret not finding you guys before the rebore. If I would have got thumbs down from Sibun Sir for the rebore I would have never done that. I didnt knew the consequences. I have seen people doing rebore couple of times on the same bore so I thought it is quite normal. Anyways, now the money has been spent and I should honestly say that I dont have enough funds for the rebuild for now.
Sibun Sir ........ On my previous post theres a typing error. Previously I was getting the reddish Spark but after modifying the spark plug it is giving White/Bluish Spark. I know I have gone off road to modify the Spark Plug because I couldnt find a Non Resistor Spark Plug. HH Service Center is selling only Champion Spark Plug PRZ7HC. What I did with spark plug :- Opened the Champion Spark Plug and took off the resistor from it and then took a solid core copper wire and inserted it at the place of resistor and now the spark plug reads almost Zero resistance on multi meter. Off course my plug cap is also OE that came from factory , never changed till now and its 10 year old.
Its definitely Engine Oil on the spark plug. I can confirm it because as soon as I start the bike, first 10-15 puffs of exhaust smells as if oil is burning in combustion and after 4-5 seconds it smells perfectly like 4 stroke petrol engine. (I know the difference of both the smell)(It does not give white smoke its just the difference in smell)
I will definitely change the Air Screw O-Ring as suggested. As in my previous post I have mentioned that when I opened the air screw it had some black sooty stuff on its lower part which i cleaned. The O-Ring and washer and spring wasnt there, I think its stuck inside the carburetor. I will definitely change it and clean the carburetor thoroughly myself.
Sibun Sir what is the procedure to check the Ignition Coil under tank and Magnet coil. If it is possible I would like to do that myself because the mechanic will only crank the bike and look at the spark deeply and say SAHI HAI . They dont have any special equipments and before hand they will not even agree to check it. This type of problems are rarest of all thats why mechanics are least interested.
Pinaki Sir I do agree with you and Sibun Sir. I was thinking that after rebore my problem should have solved but because the reason that my problem didnt solve after rebore I thought that problem was not from ring piston area and thats why I started working on my bike to find out the problematic area. I will check and see what my plug cap is reading on multi meter. Spark plug is running without resistor for now and the combustion seems to have improved alot than before. Compression is also very strong felt with the kick starter. Will definitely change the air screw O-Ring and proceed further with the coil as soon as Sibun Sir responds.
This is my first encounter with Sibun Sir and I should admit I LOVE HIM.
You want to know what a spark tell. A spark can tell a lot about bike. Most here knows what is written in books, but i will tell the practical noise.
Want to test your bike spark.
This is particularly of Hero Honda with AC ignition:-
Open the spark plug cap. Keep the spark plug fitted in head. Show the bare terminal near spark plug tip which connects to plug cap. Keep a distance of 0.5 cm. Hold the wire with insulated pliers. Take care. Start the engine and see spark jumping from wire end to plug.
1. The spark is reddish and the spark intensity is thin- Then the ignition coil has gone weak.
2. The spark is stronger at high revs and goes weak at idling- Charging coil gone.
3. Spark is short and thick with deep blue. On increasing distance the spark looses- Charging coil gone.
4. Spark is blue but thin and longer - Pulsar coil gone, If you remember M80, a bike from bajaj, then if its pulsar coil is gone then the spark can jump almost 4-5 inches.
Change both ignition coil and charging coil together as a set. As for pulsar coil, Hero Honda pulsar coil doesn't fail easily.
And that bold and underline part, time is not right. People will think something other. So dhondu beta just chillllllll
The bigger bolt is the push rod with tensioner. If you open that then tensioner and its spring will come out. Used while changing tensioner and spring.Originally posted by dude_creative View Posthi all experts... please view this pic, this so called Cam chain tensioner exists in my dads splendor and also my Honda dream.
just curious what happens if we opened these 2 bolts.. Is there anything to perform maintenance on this tensioner? I heard somewhere that oil will come out if these bolts are opened.
Thanks.
And that smaller bolt is for pumping oil through gun if after fitting new push rod, air remains and oil can't be pumped. Open it to push out air from push rod.
Simple yet awesome design.
New bend pipe is available. Although not original but still good quality. Get one and do gas welding.Originally posted by ybedekar View PostMy CD Dawn is making strange noise. It seems it may have crack/hole on pipe near flange we bolt it to cylinder.

I just went to Gas welding guy. He removed my silencer and just gas welded top connection again. to support this he just put a small piece of pipe having o/d equal to i/d of silencer pipe (1 inch approx) inside silencer connection & welded it. He ensured that flange will fit properly.
Charged Rs 150 & extra Rs 10 packing. Now its quiet now.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hi Jeswin/Sibun,
My updates as below. Very sorry for delay in updates due to work and festival in weekend.
From past one week did not find any probs, bike was going on smooth with mileage of around 57-60kmpl. Today again in evening it while returning has same probs and on my own did started the bike holding wire near spark plug, once started it moved without any issue.
Good job , Did you oil outer black foam or the yellow foam ? Oiled only yellow foam.
Timing chain doesn't need lubrication as it is lubed by engine oil itself. Thanks for information
Its ok then , Oil level should be between min and max points on dipstick. Checked even today, It's between max and min, did not identify much consumption as such from engine.
Might be running slightly rich. Turn AFR 1/8 turn anti-clockwise. Could you tell me which is the screw? is that same which is next to idle screw? please confirm.
picture of spark plug after a week use. (had cleaned last Saturday, 9 days back)
Will update with sparks in tomorrow, as missed takings is pics.
Please advise how to go forward from this point and I look forward for you help as I don't wan to lose my dream bike.

Buddy, change the spark cap and plug first.. Spark cap can be unscrewed and removed from that wire.Originally posted by pradeepg View Post

Go to the kickstart side of engine , open the utility box, That is where air screw is located. It will NOT be next to idle screw.
Close it completely clockwise gently till it seats.. Open it 1.5 turns anticlockwise (1 turn= 360 degree) . This setting is more or less perfect(in my exp with 98 splendor) Now spark plug should be in brick color after riding. If not I still suspect ur air filter is blocked or engine oil entering combustion.
Are you running with choke on? if so switch it downwardsLast edited by dude_creative; 01-19-2016, 12:30 PM.--------------------------------------------------------------

Plug is getting heavily fouled . I can imagine a few possibilitiesOriginally posted by pradeepg View Post... picture of spark plug after a week use. (had cleaned last Saturday, 9 days back)..
a) did you let any mechanic tamper with the engine timing ? reset to factory settings from hero authorized service center .
b) adulterated fuel , dirt in fuel or fuel tank . empty tank , clean and dry , clean petcock filters . replace fuel pipe .
c) improper , worn , clogged jets and passages in the carburetor . clean it , replace the jets and air-screw with oe parts .
d) replace plug with ngk cr7hsa and plug-cap also with oe cap .

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
What a way to start yesterday! Bike met with a puncture in the morning itself. While the puncture guy was fixing it, he took an inch long nail from the tyre. Since the rear tube had already 3 punctures, bought a new MRF tube and replaced the old one. Planning to change the tyre too, as soon as possible.
Bought a can of veedol take off 4t 20w 40 today as the bike has to be serviced in 200 kms. I'm using veedol since 7,000 kms and satisfied with it too.
