Or else, mix some shampoo in a pail of water and wash the bike. Does the job well.

Completely safe . I use it on wheel rims & spokes , plastic parts , mirror glass , meter lenses , flasher lenses , headlamp glass and also the reflector when opened . After buffing you'll see that surface is slippery and dust won't stick to it , so don't use on seat - no harm but seat becomes slippery . Just wet a piece of terry-cloth with the waxpol liquid and go all over the bike without any care , that's called easyOriginally posted by rv555 View PostI also use Waxpol liquid silicone polish, which is ok with less labour.Shine last for max two weeks.
... is it safe to polish over the graphics/stickers ?

Fake automotive and motorcycle parts , products like wax, oils , spark-plugs, bearings rackets have been going on for 6-10 years atleast and I'm surprised how many are still making risky purchases yet .
The way to check for abrasives is to apply the polish on a un-coated painted surface with white cloth and rub vigorously for few minutes and see if colour of the paint is coming off faintly on the white cloth .Originally posted by Akkiben View PostNot sure, is there any way to check that?
While washing bike before shine never entrust to any service place that uses pressure water . Always use a soft spray or better bucket & mug . Avoid sponges . Use mild detergent diluted in water if necessary . Remember to re-lubricate chain and all other exposed moving parts and joints after drying .
Brother Sibun , I also have that same bottle of the 3M polish ( it's very good too )and a bottle of waxpol tyre shine , dashboard polish , can of turtle wax , can of waxpol wax etc etc - kept in box for few years now , never get to use nowadays

[QUOTE=sibun;1204439]
Then your problem is in charging coil in magnet. Your voltage is correct and so is the ignition coil. Your bike is giving less current to spark plug. Change that charging coil and your current problem will go.
I guess the coil referred to is "excitor coil" which sits in upper side once we remove the magnet.
By the way, what is the function of a coil which sits on periphery of magnet with one point periodically touching the elevated part of circumference of the magnet?
Probably it is called the pickup coil. Please explain its function.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Every time that raised part of magnet( timing ridge on the flywheel ) passes the pickup coil, a small current is induced in it and transmitted by a wire to the CDI , this signals the CDI that the piston is at the top-dead-center of the compression stroke and it's just the right time to fire the spark-plug by discharging it's capacitors . This is my very non-technical understanding so everyone feel free to correct me if mistakenOriginally posted by dumb0 View Post...By the way, what is the function of a coil which sits on periphery of magnet with one point periodically touching the elevated part of circumference of the magnet? Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Exactly pinakiji, its a hall sensor which tells when to fire . Its location from magnet is very crucial , its more or less 1 mm and slight change will result in misfires or no fires at all. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hello Lovely People!
I am also one of the Proud Owner of Splendor. It is a 2000 Model. Yesterday it is completed 1 Lack KM.
Story: It took 15 years complete. The bike is actually owned by my Cousin Brother. He used it for ~10 years. Later he started commuting more on four wheeler and the Splendor was very less used for few years. He completed 65000KMs. I asked my bro if I can use it instead of buying a new bike because I was not affordable for a new bike. He said YES and from past 3 and half years I am using it.
It is a very good bike. Done the servicing on time and ridden smoothly. However a rebore was done at 70K. I am getting a mileage of approx. 75 to 80 KMPL.
My Intention: I also want to learn Servicing the bike, Carb Cleaning, Air Filter Cleaning and many more things which can be done at home. In fact I want to become a self-mechanic, so that I can fix the bike by myself instead of spending lot of money in Service Stations.
I hope I can get the proper guidance from all of you.

Nice bike.. post full view pics also. First start from all tools like ring spanner set, double end screw driver, edge spanner set, T-spanner 8 mm, Box spanner set, Feeler gauge if possible. Taparia, stanley, eastman are good brands. This may come upto Rs.1000, from tools shop. This is the initial step for a mechanicOriginally posted by prashanth.rva View PostHello Lovely People!

Thanks for giving the list of tools to start with.
From past 6-7 months I have the following tools in my collection:
Stanley 70379E Matte Finish Double Open End Spanner Set
Stanley 69-213-22 10-Piece Metric Hex Key Ring Set (Black)
Stanley 70394E 8-Piece Matte Finish Shallow Offset Ring Spanner Set
Oaykay - Combination Side Cutting Plier
Taparia 1420-8 Econ - Series Long Nose Plier, and few more items
Below are the list of tools I still need to buy:
Box spanner set
Feeler Gauge
T Spanner
Impact Driver
Clutch and Rotor Remover Special Tool
Magnet Puller
T Spanner: Please tell me which all numbers I need to buy. Only 8MM is enough?
Impact Driver: How much it will cost?
Clutch & Rotor Remover Special Tool & Magnet Puller: I don’t know where to buy in Bangalore. Please anybody tell where can I get these and approximate prices.
Some of the tools will be useful and some may not, but what I thought is if I can spend 1000Rs for fuel why not buy a tool worth 200Rs or more which is always with me and will be handy any time.
I have very few pics of my bike. Below is attached.
I will also take a snap of all the tools I have and post in few days.Last edited by prashanth.rva; 02-04-2016, 04:46 PM.

Just reminds me of my college days, when every other Splendor in college had a short handlebar like yours
It gives a cute look to the bike.
I also wanted to have it fitted in my bike, but my dad refused saying it will cause clutch wire to get stuck, not so comfortable riding position etc etc
This handle was very much popular with Splendor in Kerala that time, but not much seen these days...

Firstly keep and use the tools you have , and buy one by one when you need something specific . No need to buy in sets - each motorcycle maker tends to use same size things all over the bike to reduce their factory complication , so you'll only use one or two specific tool size only ever on this bike . The most used size of nut / bolt on Splendor is number ten .
I started with only the tools that had collected with me from various previous bikes and the Splendor's kit . Then I got 2 ring spanners to manage the large wheel nuts because they were too much torque for open spanner . And it grew from there over the years piece by piece . Always prefer known brand tools , unless you get something for free or almost . Stanley we get here is dubious chinese steel and I prefer better Indian brands like eastman , ajay , Jhalani etc . Remember that if a spanner shatters or breaks in tension while in use it can cause severe injury , so buy good chrome-vanadium tool steels when possible . Taparia's steel is best , mechanics prefer them because they last and last . But for amateurs like me who uses a particular ring spanner twice a year and unlikely to wear out the tool ever by use , eastman , jhalani , ajay , ambika , anant , JK etc are just fine .
Only use for an impact driver is removing impossibly stuck screw , and it's a costly tool . I have not bought it yet because there has not been a stuck screw / nut / bolt that I have not been able to un-stick some other way
. Same with magnet-puller , flywheel-locking-holder & clutch tools etc . Buy one by one when need arises . For regular service jobs on the bike , the bike's OE tool-kit , plus a good 10" water-pump plier , ring spanners in exact size as your wheel nuts & other large nuts ( a 16-17 is good for spark plug and drain nut ) , a good general screwdriver ( multitec 6150 or taparia 905 ) , a medium hammer is good start . Buy and maintain the best foot-pump you can find .
I have the same rear tyre on my bike as yours , mrf nylogrip moto-C 2.75x18 . Very good road/no-road dual-purpose tyre but now discontinued I think ?Last edited by Pinaki; 02-05-2016, 01:34 AM.

8mm is sufficient for beginning, to open clutch cover, magneto cover in splendor. Ring spanner is the one that is frequently used for other sizes. Box spanner is perfect for spark plug inspection, footrest removal stuffs.
Regular stuff like chain tightening, clutch adjustment, plug replacement, carb cleanup won't need advanced tools, yet better to have. In chennai we get stuffs from General patters road, not sure of Bangalore. Fluids you should keep like diesel, grease, ep90 oil/chain spray, wd40, Carb cleaner(acetone), gasket maker, waxpol.
These are cool to have too..
Water service jet spray -100Rs
Handpump+gauge -150+200 (never wait at petrol pumps
)
Not sure, never liked footpumps or those electronic pumps, handpump rockss
Multimeter-check battery volts, resistance etc

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I could not get my bike serviced at the svc due to lack of time so today I bought this spark plug.
Please tell if its original and would it be okay for the bike as I have not installed it yet.
Recommended is UR4AC but on spark plug its written just U 4A.
I live in a small city so getting this kind of original stuff is pretty tough.
I also wanted to buy Veedol Take off 4t 10w30 but sadly couldnt find it.Last edited by Brezon95; 02-06-2016, 08:52 PM.
