I don't if it's the low usage that gives you the low fe. Try taking your bike for a ride of 50kms in a stretch. You will really be having a wonderful fe. Did you check on your plugs for the colour

          Hi friends,

I own a splendor+ bought in 2009 that was used by my dad till 2011 and was handed over to me for two years and I returned the bike to him 3 months back since he got a me a p220.

Since I used to drive harsh with the puny commuter I had to do a re bore 8 months back and the crank died some 4 months back. My dad wanted a complete rebuild including a new bore piston kit, crank shaft, new clutch set and what ever new required. The head valves were replaced and seated.

Since its just been some 1500 kms neither me nor my dad disn't push her above 60. Since a week we started to ride her normally and couldn't take her above 70. she used to easily do 90 and would get to 100 with some effort.

Checked the plugs and found it to be pure white damn. A lean mixture and also if the valve clearance is would not be appropriate since the mechanic did it manually with his so called instincts

What do I do now? I know to tune a carb but am afraid if I would screw it up.

Need help from you guys. I would like to get the valve clearance level so that I could get some mechanic to adjsut it with the feeler guage

Thanks all for your kind concerns . His arm has now been fixed up with plates and screws and he is recuperating at home . Going to be OK soon . His 3 month old CBZ-X is however severely damaged , at Hero service for full repairs and insurance claims . We have decided to sell the bike afterwards . This is a pic of me on that bike ..

1 turn means 360 degrees . Also check and service the foam air-filter , spark plug and tyre pressure and keep the chain lubricated and correctly slacked . My bike is also 2010 model Splendor+ ( 1st july )

Totally agreed with Harikishen'jee here . Low usage does bring down the overall fuel mileage by a lot on my bike too - into the fifties .

I haven't ridden mine above 80 kmph mainly because of the risky roads here . Yes , lean tune shall definitely pull down the bike's top-end much . There is almost nothing to screw up in the Splendor's keihin carburetor - it is foolproof simple . Else you can get it tuned from Hero service center - they usually don't charge for tuning it . Then from their base tune , adjust a bit to your own liking . I do this because I don't have an accurate ear or an RPM meter . The correct tappet clearance is 0.05 mm for both the intake and exhaust valves .

Yes, that is the old chain-sprocket that has run for 98k kms. As i have written in that post the sprocket is not worn much but the chain is worn and that is the reason i changed the chain sprocket kit.Hearing your words i remember another thing. On the day of the mentioned work my uncle has accompanied me to my mechanic workshop. As you remember we had bought a stunner and its chain sprocket kit was replaced at 14k kms and was replaced with DIamond kit.He on looking the sprockets the conversation went like this:-Uncle:- How much does the chain sprocket kit cost. ME:- It cost about Rs.550. OE cost Rs.568 and i am using Diamond.Uncle:- How much does it last on average.Me:- I do not know about others as nobody maintains like me. But i on regular cleaning and lubricating and adjusting it lasted for 98k. On the average i have changed 5 chain sprocket kit and none has lasted me for less than 60k.Uncle:- Thats amazing. Our Stunner sprocket cost Rs.1275 and last only 12-14k that too with care.Me:- That is why splendor series bikes are always refereed to as no maintenance bikes. The Uncle mentioned here is my maternal uncle( MAMA), and although he is my uncle but we always are like friends discussing everything and going everywhere like friends. He is also automobile enthusiast like me but he knows a lot about cars than bikes.

1 turn always means 360 degrees.AFR is not a volume control switch which we can say that this much turn is good. Moreover splendor series bike AFR screw is very sensitive. Even 1/16 th of a turn from ideal position will lean or richen the mixture. So it is very difficult to tune and also will become practice with experience. In my extreme which has CV carb the AFR is not as sensitive and even 1/4 th turn from ideal position doesn't have any major effect but in my Joy slight right left will have a lot of effect. If your running is low then do not fill the tank. Just fill Rs.150-200 petrol and run and when you hit reserve then once again fill. This way fuel will not be wasted much by evaporation.

Re-tune the carb as slight lean mixture from ideal has a much larger effect in splendor series than any other bike. The valve clearance is 0.05mm both inlet and outlet, but for old bike keep it at 0.03 mm both exhaust and inlet.

Do not speak about normal people as they only know to operate bike( mind it i have used the term operate and not ride a bike as both are different). My father even though he doesn't know anything technical about bikes always maintains the bike. He habitually services it every 2000 km and each sunday he washes the bike. The thing is that to maintain the bike you do not have to be technical guy. Just reading the manual is more than enough for a normal guy.Yes i have seen the ads but hero have to launch new bikes, to show its technology and competitiveness. It is not for us bikers but for general public. We bikers know each and every bike and thus decides on our needs how to buy, but for general public if a company launches high end products then that means the company knows about bikes and thus people have faith. As far as i know Hero has already manufactured a 250 cc bike and also is on another project on 500 cc bike. The 250 cc will be launched in delhi auto expo along with the new karizma. Waiting the auto expo to see the launches of new bikes. Eagerly waiting for new ZMR and the specification and mileage makes it appealing for touring and also for pocket.Regarding ads then i will post more in night as evening is spent at GYM. Right now will run to take a bath and run to office. It is already so cold here and so no gym in morning thus am typing here. Will post more details after 9Pm.

My oem rolon chain lasted for around 20k kms. used it for around 26k kms by removing links.. and my college road was non existent that time. completely dusty like fog for 15 kms.. A clean and lubed chain used to get loaded with grim in just 2-3 days. In that conditions I cleaned my chain only once in a month & lubed it weekly.

I really think, In normal conditions chain should last 25k kms or more..

Battery went completely dead , no horn for days - quite very scary . Replaced with new battery of same type & specs . Total cost was Rs 470.00 ( quite a deal considering high battery prices prevailing now ) .

                            • small trip on sunday

After i got the job in state bank of india, i tour on my extreme and the Joy has been resting with riding during weekends. This sunday got some time
for making my joy run for some mini tour.

Decided to do a breakfast ride with returning by 11:00 am. Left home by 8:45 am and decided to go to the extreme of bhubaneswar towards barang a small village about
35 km from my home. It goes through nandankanan(zoological garden of odisha).

Joy was feeling comfortable after the previous night ride of extreme through 172 km.

Since the bike is serviced so was running smoothly. Only irritating sound was the crank sound when accelerating. My mechanic is saying to change the crank but i am
waiting for the bore to leak compression so that will re-built the engine completely. But the damn bore is not getting worn out and compression is so hard that sometimes
                              i can't kik it.

The road passes through my college and seeing the college and i on my joy returned the memory four years back. The same bike, college ah! those days, no money in pocket
still will be going on long ride with friend and hats of to the bike, never ever gave any problem on road even a puncture. Was in a bliss while remembering those days, but
was sad on remembering the friend as he is now in kolkatta, although we have contact with each other by phone but those days of roaming on bike, brought tears in eyes.

This is on the way as when we were in college then this place was deserted and there was not a single house. But commercialisation has damaged the beauty. Apartments
                              and apartments abound every where.

Another side of the same road.

Here is the Nandankanan(zoological garden of odisha). The building that you see in the distance is the entrance to the Zoo.

Another photo, here you can see a lake between the mountain and the boundary wall. It is the KANJIA lake of the zoological garden which is used for boating. The
zoo boasts of boating, toy train ride and rope way.

Meanwhile being a sunday the zoo is in rush and i am a guy who just do not like rush and noisy place. Just find a serene place and sit there to enjoy the serenity and
my bike and we have a talk. A talk which no one can listen except we two.

Already winter is in full force in odisha and morning sun feels pleasing. My bike basking in sun light:-

It is here that the helmet slipped of the seat and landed on its visor with the visor broken to pieces. Removed the visor and threw it away. Since i have separate helmet
for highway and city, so no problem. This sunday will get new one.

Finally reached the place where my friend and me most of the time go when there is a strike in college or when we bunk classes. Really missed my friend a lot.

My joy and we are talking in our minds. The conversation is like this:-

Joy:- You never take me to your place of posting. The new bike(extreme) has made me look old and outdated for you.

Me:- No, never. You have a special place in my heart which no one can take. I am taking the extreme as it is more powerful and also faster so can cover distance quickly.

Joy:- Oh! is that so did you forget that i took your mom and you on a trip of 360 km with only half an hour rest. Took a trip of 600 km one way with your friends in a
single night without a single puncture. Countless trips when bunking college and on strikes and when classes were suspended.

Now you are doubting upon my capability.

Me:- Sorry! extremely sorry as i never doubted your capability. In-fact how can i forget that with a seized engine you completed a 500 km trip with my mom and me with
a single day run of 180 km non stop with the seized engine. How can i forget that in the heat of may month at 1:00 pm my friend on his apache and i on you were ripping
and you ran for 35 km almost on full accelerator. A feat which i will not dare on the extreme.

The day when i forget your help that day will be the last on this earth for me.

Joy:- enough said, i am angry with you and am pissed why in this 11 months you have not taken me to your place of posting.

Me:- Ok i am sorry. Since your health is not good( crank sound) will take you after a engine re-built.I promise you that i will take you before i get transffered.

Joy:- thats ok. Looking forward for the trip.

Somebody after reading this will think i have gone bonkers but beleive these were the thoughts that came in my mind sitting under this tree.

While returning there is a small station at a place called Barang. Here only local passengers train halt. Is a small station but looks good. I was saying about my friend.

The most astonishing thing is that both my friend and me have same passion. We always prefer to go to a calm and serene place and away from the maddening crowd of city.

While youngstes prefer malls and movie we just prefer a place like these.

                              A picture of the station:-

Since a few trains halt here so there are very less people which makes it more pleasing.

On the stairs of the over bridge my friend and me would sit and look at the trains coming and going.

This small trip made a lot of memories to return.

The said friend always tells me- "Never sell this bike as we have lot of memories attached to it. Someday when we will get old and retired we will ride this very same
bike and will sit somewhere with this bike reliving our memoirs".

So this was a sweet and short trip.

The crank was making a rattling sound and have decided to re-built the engine let the bore not wear out will replace it or bore it to 0.25 size.

I know that once i open the bore it will require replacing or re-boring but presently it is having very nice compression and gives nice mileage.

Mileage i got was 76 kpl in this small trip.

Hope you all liked the small trip.
