    @Pinaki
I lubricate the cables with a thin oil,inner-side of outer casing has a teflon sleeve(clutch and accelerator cable).Once a year, before monsoon.
Few don't recommend lubing(even you have mentioned it somewhere in this thread).

Lube the RH part of the handle and inside of the accelerator grip with gear oil. Speedo cable breaks easily if not lubricated and 3 years is a very good life .

After lots of opening and cleaning , finally fork job comes to an end . The tool i made was bit slipping so with help of mechanic's tool fork was stripped open and his doubt was confirmed that both pipes were bit bent. So for now piston was cleaned and 160ml of oil was poured. The shocks are way more softer than before , due to financial constraints i was not able to get pipes repaired, after a week or two i will get them straightened. Thanks all of you , you have given my splendor a new life . Everybody here is complete genius and supportive . Thanks all of you

This 8th of july is a special day for me and even my family members. It is the day when a family member was added to our family 13 years ago, and continues to be the favorite among our family members. 8th July is the birth date of my JOY. It was on this day that it joined our family 13 years ago. After that many bikes have been bought and some also sold but none comes to this bike.

The previous sunday i.e on 30th june, i was sitting in my aunts house and my joy was parked. Suddenly my aunt asked me looking at the bike that how many years it has become, and i replied 12 years completed and 13 will start next week. She replied that this bike still looks like new and freshly bought from showroom.

On a different note since 8th is a monday, i will not be at home as i have to come to office, so i will celebrate the birthday on 7th. Bike has not been serviced for last 4 months, so first i will service it by changing engine oil, cleaning air filter, tightening chain, adjusting tappets, and finally by giving it a thorough wash and polish. Also will put a new seat cover. On sunday i will take it to temple for doing Puja, i am very happy(more happy than my own birthday), and i think my mother is more happier than me as she also loves this bike like me or even more.

And last not least all are invited to celebrate my joy's birthday.

Happy Birthday to your pride and JOY brother Sibun .

Bike is in dire need of lubrication everywhere because of constant riding in rains and I've started the work today evening . Lubed the new speedo cable ( it was barely greased new ) , front brake cable and clutch cable . Throttle grip and cable tomorrow . Other parts too next . The speedo cable inner can be replaced seperately , the cable they gave me this time is different from the original that came with bike in some aspects - the original had a long metal bend collar kinda fitting where it fits the speedo , this one has just a short straight aluminum collar . Also they are slightly of different length . Works fine for now though .
But I don't think the inner cables of clutch & front brake can be replaced sepearately on my bike . Handle lever end has fixed stud (with a small plastic collar) and the other end has crimped fitting which I couldn't figure how to remove . Then how can the inner cable be removed from casing ?
Lubed speedo cable by dismantling it fully and dropping 20w50 motor oil from the top end and let it drip through to the bottom end , then greased the inner cable with ap3 grease and fitted . Front brake cable and clutch cable unhooked at both ends and same motor oil was dripped into the upper collar kinda fitting , you can pass just a few drops of oil into it anyway ( so hopefully no damage to friction-free coated cable inners ) . Greased the handle levers and refitted . Clutch and front brake free play adjusted . Dunno if throttle cable can be seperated from casing .... shall be doing that tomorrow .
Can you all please remind me of the other important lubrication points on the bike , lest I miss it ?

My 2002 splendor has run approx 50,000 kms.
Couple of problems i see for which i hope experts here can help me out:
            1. if i dont use the bike even for 2-3 days, it becomes a struggle to start it later on. Have to use choke to start it. Even then, the initial couple of minutes its like the bike might stall any moment. I have to keep the throttle engaged at a fixed position continously for the engine to keep running. If i raise it or lower it, the engine will die. I have replaced the spark plug (MICO)and batter (SF Sonic Rodeo - maintenance free type) in January 2013. What could be the problem?

            2. My bike refuses to go above 55 kmph without getting very very harsh. If i raise the throttle and force it to touch 60 kmph, the engine sounds so rough and so much vibration is felt on the foot rests, that i give up and come down to my usual speed of 45-50 kmph. Though out the life of the bike, i have driven it sedately, max 50kmph, so that i can squeeze out max mileage from it. Has this sedate driving caused harm to the engine in any way? what can be done to feel engine smoothness at 60 kmph speed? I use motul 20w40 oil currently. Earlier oil change was always done at teh A.S.S with OEM oil.

              1) dismantle fuel tank and clean and dry it 2) check air filter element if it needs replacement , else clean and re-oil it correctly 3) clean & adjust carburetor 4) clean centrifugal & mesh oil filter and check oil pass thru is clean 5) check & grease wheel bearings & sprocket bearing , lubricate chain and slack it to spec 6) while oil filters are being cleaned you should check if clutch plates need replacement now .i.e @ 50k kms give all aspects of the bike well deserved service so that it'll keep running well for another 50k . On this bike you can do it yourself without much help .

^Thanks Pinaki for pointing out WHAT needs to be done. Can you also tell me WHY iam facing these problems. I just want to be technically informed to face the A.S.S foreman/mechanic. Should i also ask for a complete recheck of the electricals?

                  • Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion

The problems you are having with your bike can be from any of the things I mentioned , and these are the common ones .

                    1) dirt , rust , rusty water etc accumulates inside fuel tank with time , and cause difficult starting and poor running . If there is such dirt inside the fuel tank , some of it have certainly passed into the carb and dirty carb shall also cause you same problems . Also improperly tuned carb can cause this .
                    2) Poor starting and running can be cause by choked , dirty , wet , over-oiled , dry or too old air filter elements . Also poor fuel mileage .
                    3) The Splendor's centrifugal oil-filter and/or mesh filter is likely to be dirt loaded in 50k km's of use , needing a clean . Have you serviced the oil filters ever ? This shall give you poor oil circulation and even oil starvation to engine parts causing noise and vibrations ( and eventually excessive wear ) .
                    4) Noise and vibrations can be caused by dry chain , overtight or overslack chain , worn hooked-teeth sprockets , worn chain , dry & dirty wheel and sprocket bearings .
                    5) worn clutch ( likely at 50k kms ) shall also cause low pickup , low top speed and engine vibrations and noise .
                    6) Also check ignition spark strength , with and without the spark-plug . Nothing else electrical comes to play in starting the bike and running it .

You need to do these services and replace a few worn parts . Then check if your problems are fixed , which I think shall be . You can either visit a good Hero service center near you or try some of the self help guides on this thread to do it yourself . Decide you perfered method and ask for any help .

I have crossed 95+ many times- Speedo indicated with 3.0X18 tyre, stock 43 teeth rear sprocket . My splendor feels relaxed at 80 kmph and I usually cruise at this speed on highways.

If the mixture is not correct or any other issue then bike feels as if it is struggling to cross 70 kmph(personal experience).
Older splendors had a very good top end, now I have felt that even current splendor pro is more relaxed when compared 2010-2012 Splendor PRO model.

Actually everytime I was about to cross over 73-74 I either ran out of clear good roads or signal or something else comes up ... as I ride in city only , even this is rare . Also I myself am scared to take 100cc bike much higher than that , don't forget that my bones shall take lots more time to mend than yours . At 42 , good enough for me if bike can do steady 60kmph all day and occasional burst to 75kmph .

Unless the following conditions are met, I never cross 60~65 kmph.

1.There should be at-least two lanes each side because at that speed, the risk of being pushed by crosswinds is too much.
2.Straight, deserted roads with median & barriers so that there is no chance of a vehicle from opposite lane entering my lane while overtaking and cattle/people crossing the road.

As you see these conditions are rarely met and hence I can count the no. of times I have touched 95+ on my finger tips. I prefer to cruise at a steady speed and enjoy the ride...

P.S- My intention was not to promote high speed riding but to let you know about the top speed this bike can do.
                          Ride Safe.

Regarding bent fork tube i have talked with Shock reconditioning guy and i am hunting down a good lathe worker to straigthen it . Till then it is still running better than before . Still main stand is struck badly , as sibun suggested i will have to get it cut out no other way for this . I have used Cyclo(Rs.230./- for 400ml ) 3M and abro. Cyclo is the cheapest of all.
You may even try using a syringe filled with petrol to clean the passages. We have used petrol, a brush to clean the carbs and compressed air to blow the passages in the past and many continue to do so, it is now that we are having the luxury of pressurized cleaner .
Use a pair of disposable gloves.
