Yes i will keep that in mind , Sibun`s joy is an example what is hero`s quality all about , 10 yrs and it still beats any 100cc bike . Someday i will too make my splendor like his. Splendor series has done such a impact on market , that if you ask anyone that what bike is best for mileage , 90% will shout out splendor/passion . This is what hero did to competition , wiped it off the market completely in 100cc range when it comes to reliability and quality .

Thanks shoeb for the concern that you have shown towards me.I shall always be grateful to you for these kind words. If anyone can source me JOY's tank, side panel and OE stickers i shall ever be grateful to you. So, please do this as a favor to me, i have no worry in life as i have settled my career, no immediate plans of marriage and all that. My only present worry is to get a tank, panels and sticker sets for my JOY. Man i love the bike the most in my life, anything else comes next.Originally posted by shoeb2015 View PostWhenever you find original stickers get two sets of all the stickers. Tank and panel will be available in the future but getting the exact stickers will be difficult.
(Whenever I go to get spares from the main market, I never forget to ask for Joy's tank and stickers) Sibun is searching them since a very long time and if anyone is able to source it then please contact him. To do a small favor in-return for all that he has helped and shared experience with us....
Talking about quality then nothing comes close to HERO quality. Not only mileage, reliability, performance everything is covered in one bike. Splendor series engine has a top speed of 90+ kph which easily is good considering its engine capacity. By the way i want to tell that the model splendor you have is personally my favourite. I loved the U-model sticker and that model. It is almost same era as my Joy. And yes that color is indeed rare, so keep it safe. Forget about re-coloring as the present color if maintained will last another 20 years. Regarding my Joy, then let me tell you that although my Joy is 12 years old but consider that it has run 3.30 lacs km, i am sure you have never even heard any bike running this number of kilometers.
When i wash and wax both my bikes, i look at both and still my Joy outshines the new CBZ. My cousin sister who is all of 10 years will lightly move her fingers over the tank of both the bikes after i have waxed and will give the remark, the Joy paint feels so smooth that CBZ cannot match. Even though she is a child of 10 years still she knows the difference.

When i saw your signature it said 3.1L km and running , i was shockedBy the way i want to tell that the model splendor you have is personally my favourite. I loved the U-model sticker and that model. damn 3.1L is too mush for any vehicle i have seen till now . After that i saw your joy`s pics and it was more than enough to say how you keep your bikes.
Yes but mine has a scratched tank , It happened when i went to my friend`s hostel and parked bike nearby , Some lunatic ( he was mentally retarded ) scratched and peeled of paintwork from top area and side of tank. I was so enraged that me and my friends went to his house to hammer him down , but his father told us real story and i left from there. I mean the feeling that i used to get when i saw down on tank i could see each hair , its no more now
.Even people used to ask how i keep my bike`s paint so well .
I will post tank`s pic tomorrow as digicam battery is charging. I am gradually gathering tools and once i have all tools , spares i will open up head and clean myself , its due to you all guys that i have gathered knowledge and courage .
I will also try to find joy`s stickers , if i succeed i will contact you asap.
We all have priorities , like you i too love my splendor and xtreme . i still remember the day dad bought splendor and i used to proudly flaunt it because no one had this colored bike at that time . It is something close to me and will never ever sell it come what may . Oh i almost forgot, this afternoon i had a dream that all us thread members met someplace and i was asking shoeb to comment about my splendorMy only present worry is to get a tank, panels and sticker sets for my JOY. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
My take - Don't try to repaint the bike overall for a few tank scratches ! The factory paint quality and shade cannot be matched . Really envy you for the sweet colour and nice maintainance on your bike . I have given up my old CBZ-X to kid bro and lost all interest in it , I find 150cc's too big for me . Maybe because of my advancing age larger and heavier bikes tires me out in city trrafic and at the end of the day gives me aches
. Splendor is perfect and zippy enough for all my purposes and it's so simple & economical to maintain . Even the new HF-Dawn is light and even zippier . I wish they'd make the same bike with same motor but within 70kgs of weight , by utilising modern space-age metal and technologies
. I'm quite willing to pay any price for it .
What you can do about the scratches on your bike is very very carefully clean & sand the scratched area only with progessingly fine grit sandpaper ( after masking off all the adjoining area with mask-tape ) . Then you can fill just the scratch with matching or near-matching paint with fine brush , thin-ed paint and a steady hand . They'll be next to invisible then while you get to keep the factory colour overall too . Waiting for your detailed pics .
Mine has also got a few deep scratches on tank after i gave ride to my bestfriend's toddler on the tank and he was wearing a jeans with metal riveted pocket . I just chose to ignore such minor cosmetic flaws . If it grows worse I may use same method , I have done it on earlier bikes and it worked very well on black atleast .Last edited by Pinaki; 06-22-2013, 01:52 AM.

sibun and RohIIT- I cleared the inbox.
When the time comes to paint the bike, I will get an compressor & an air brush and do the paint-job myself !
Regarding the paint - I have to admit that Splendor/Joy/CD had a paint job 100X better than extreme. Xtreme's paint is no-doubt a little bit grainy.
Recently I happen to visit car A/C mechanic and rode his brand new splendor PRO for 10 kms on the highway to get spares. The firing was very smooth at idle and it looks like Hero has changed the firing map. It felt very relaxed just like my splendor at 70kmph and made very little noise and vibes, only wind noise was audible.( I rode without helmet- as there was no other option ) He claims a mileage of 70+ on highways.
Those who ride splendor find it very difficult to like other bikes when almost everything is offered on a same bike ie. Splendor.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I asked in my ASC today, they had Dawn tank (the very first bike after joy) and they might have joy tank & side panel but they said have to look for it and they are also not sure. But before that i need to know which type of sticker color u want? Because those comes with sticker sticked. If they had black color with any sticker would it be fine? How about Dawn tank?Originally posted by sibun View PostIf anyone can source me JOY's tank, side panel and OE stickers i shall ever be grateful to you.
If you want same type of sticker then post a close picture of it. But they don't have separate sticker set.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
After some talks to paul i finally decided to recondition front shocks today , Went to svc and got oil seal and o-ring . Now i started searching for shock oil. Earlier valvoline which i bought was tampered and had some dirt inside it , so i returned it and got this waxpol Shock absorber oil . Called up paul and asked about this oil , he too didnt use this oil so had no comment about it , i bought it since it was 45/- per bottle (175ml) . Now went to hardware shop to get spanner , called up paul again , asked about tools used . Finally i bought 19-18 ring spanner ( i didnt have money to buy TAPARIA adjustable wrench it was 300/-
). SVC spare person asked me
SVC- Bhaiya kaun si agency hai aapki ? Which agency do you have here ?
Me - Meri koi agency nai hai I dont have any agency
SCV - To ye shock oil aur spares ka aap kya karoge? what will you do with these spares and oil
Me - Shock oil change karunga. I will change front fork oil
SVC - Aap kahin se course kiye ho kya ? Did you learn this from some course ?
Me - Internet se seekh ke self se kaam karta hun. I learn from internet ( and its super helping members ) and do job on my own
SVC -
After this came back home and started dis-assembling shocks and i disaster stuck after i removed shock from bike . To remove fork cap , a adjustable spanner is required . now i was very disappointed as i should have bought it from hardware store . After sometime i saw construction work going on nearby , went and asked if they had adj.spanner , it was my good luck they had one . Now back to shocks ,i started opening them . took out collar , ring , and spring , drained old oil , poured some diesel , pumped it and drained the diesel.
Now next step was to remove piston , Here i got stuck completely . I tried to open it using 6mm allen key but it didnt even turn single bit , i used loads of force but didnt open , Went back to computer and i saw paul had made a piston remover tool , Now i understood that i dont have any chance to open it. So i poured diesel again and cleaned it as much as i can .
Poured in new oil , but wait it was 175ml right ? . So i went to pharma store and bought a 20ml syringe and took out 15ml from bottle so that it is 160ml now.
Pumped atleast 50 times each shock.
Assembled back all parts and again due to my absent mindness i fit shocks in opposite sides . Again undid #13 bolt and fitted them correctly.
Greased bolt nuts and every sliding component and checked everything for tightness.
Now comes the doubt area . When i was pumping the shocks when i pumped it completely downward and tried to pull it back it required much force. The movement was not very smooth and it didnt feel that new oil is doing any good lubrication. When i drove and checked shocks , they dont have any improvement . Did i do something wrong somewhere ?? . The oil seals i bought are not used as i could`nt open piston .
Now my next diy will be carb and head cleaning . I managed to get 8,10# T spanner by Jhalani .
Enough talks now pics
Work in progress
This is the waxpol oil i got . When i asked to spare shop owner for motul or veedol , He said " Bhaiya Motul aur Veedol sab local comapny hai , Waxpol hi best hai " .I was speechless , astounded by his idiotic answer.
This is the spanner i got from local construction workers ,saved my efforts . The bottle behind it is a improvised WD 40 , It is a mixture of diesel , Kerosene and half used 10W30. Works wonders on jammed bolts
Thanks everyone here , i am slowly entering into DIY zone and enjoying every bit of it.
Here is the pic of my tank
Please tell what to do now . I asked about stickers , He (ASC) said he will ask regional office and try to source from somewhere.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I know the excitement of DIY but you should have checked Paul's post properly to get an idea about the tools required. Even I mentioned that #27 spanner is required to open the cap.Originally posted by RohIIT View Post
Fork return is not good because the piston's oil galleries have slugged-up. It can be cleaned only by removing it from the fork. Oil must be contaminated because no matter what you do, some diesel will remain inside the fork.
You need to use a ring spanner and use it along with the allen key to get leverage.
Now that you have gained experience and confidence, go ahead and make piston holder. Get a piece of rod and weld a 10mm nut.
Before moving ahead, finish this job with full perfection so that it does not further need attention in the near future. I am not discouraging you in any-way, it is just that I want you to do it perfectly no matter how many trials it take.
Now I got an idea about the condition of your petrol tank. Just shows how much a person can get jealous.I will see if I can send you those stickers.

Yes i had that in mind but when i saw 27# ring it was so big i didnt know where it would fit . i apologize for ignoring your words .Even I mentioned that #27 spanner is required to open the cap.
Yes i tried to open it with 6mm allen and a ring spanner as paul showed but mine was requiring very high force and after it slipped i stopped trying as it would damge nut egdes. You need to use a ring spanner and use it along with the allen key to get leverage.
Is it 10cm or 10 mm ? like you did just like that i will make a T tool. Oh yes i will try again and again to gain perfection. People like you drive us noobies aheadNow that you have gained experience and confidence, go ahead and make piston holder. Get a piece of rod and weld a 10cm nut.

EDIT : Is the Main stand broken ?
The main stand rusted , started breaking part by part , I have bought OE stand but svc said old stand needs some cutting to get out of bike , Is this correct ??

Thanks paul, you do not know what good news you have given to me.Joy has two models in black color. One is with silver sticker like mine and other is red sticker. Have a look in my bike photos and you will get a idea of the stickers. Tommorow i will post the part number. Please help me. Tell that person that let he search in extra time. I will pay more for whatever extra time he spends. Even if he is ready to order or know some dealer who has it and he gets those for me then i am ready to pay him extra money for his efforts. But please ask him to get those. Man, you have given me such a good news that i was not this happy when i got job in state bank. RohIIT- When you just drain the oil then never wash it as diesel or kerosene will remain. Open up next time and have a complete wash. For your scratches, go to a reputed painter who has booth, you can go to raipur as it is only 30 km from your place(yes i have gone to raipur and bhilai), and ask him to do a touch-up. Here my painter does touch up such good that it matches 100% with factory paint.Regarding the main stand they have to open the silencer. Then they will remove the stand pin and rear brake lever and change the stand. If the stand pin is jammmed by rust then it requires cutting by gas welding. When my rear brake pedal was bent, we changed it then when the stand pin was taken out, it just slide out as it had no rust. My main stand is same from factory. What you can do put someengine oil on the stand pin and after 15 days go for changing the stand it will come out.Originally posted by paul.1911 View PostI asked in my ASC today, they had Dawn tank (the very first bike after joy) and they might have joy tank & side panel but they said have to look for it and they are also not sure. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Thanks sibun i will keep that in mind .Paint work is very important to me as it striking and stands out easily in crowd. Can the color can be directly purchased from somewhere ??. In raipur i have contact in a svc (car) who will paint my bike and charge accordingly , But they said they will need paint can as per no. of coats , so i am searching for this color can , I dont know what this shade of blue called .. Do you know what the color of my model called , any specification will help me .When you just drain the oil then never wash it as diesel or kerosene will remain. Open up next time and have a complete wash.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
If the chain is lubricated regularly then the extra oil from the chain drips onto the Main stand's spring ,pivot and pin thereby inhibiting rust formation. Lubing the chain with little extra oil keeps the chain clean. In monsoons, I lubricate the chain every weekend.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Brother Rohit ,You have gained good experience . It reminds me of my own first tries , which I messed up big time . You have not done half the mistakes that I did , so don't worry . I had that same taparia adjustable wrench which some bloke borrowed from my mum for some odd job at home and used as hammer , now it doesn't turn . So taparia's metal is not necessarily the best , you gan get other makes too for less .
Waxpol's fork oil is very good and so is their AP3 grease pouch , 20w40 engine oil , 2T oil , EP90 gear oil , wax polish etc etc . They are an Indian manufacturer based in Calcutta , so I have been using their products for 20+ years - no worries about that too . Don't fall into the foreign brands are the best mentality
.
The paint damage on your tank is just superficial . Damage is only on the top layers mainly . If you have a friendly artist , those scratches can easily be filled . Even you yourself can do it - the technique is called paint filling . If you want I can instruct you how to go about it . They'll be almost invisible once done . There is no need to paint the whole tank . Don't be hung-up about cosmetic appearance , motorcycles are practical vehicles meant for riding and shall bear marks of travel through life .
@ Shoeb - exactly ... I have to use kerosene and toothbrush to clean the oily stands sometimes . I too lube chain with gear oil every weekend ( other than in monsoon ) , it's a 10 min job . But I have one admission to make - during monsoon I lube chain with grease (on the oiled chain) , this stays on for a month atleast and doesn't let muddy water get into the chain .Last edited by Pinaki; 06-23-2013, 12:22 AM.

Yes i agree with you, i have been using its orange tin wax and its by far best and economical wax i found in market. Although i didnt hear about oils by waxpol till today . When i looked up on internet i found waxpol is in lubrication market too .Waxpol's fork oil is very good and so is their AP3 grease pouch , 20w40 engine oil , 2T oil , EP90 gear oil , wax polish etc etc . They are an Indian manufacturer based in Calcutta , so I have been using their products for 20+ years - no worries about that too . Don't fall into the foreign brands are the best mentality

Completely true , our bikes aren`t show vehicles needing high end paint work , But still i want to make it look respectable and stock. Prerequisite to paint job will be finding same color that was used in this model . Can anyone tell what is the name or any specification of the color , it will help me narrow down searches. If you want I can instruct you how to go about it . They'll be almost invisible once done . There is no need to paint the whole tank . Don't be hung-up about cosmetic appearance , motorcycles are practical vehicles meant for riding and shall bear marks of travel through life .
EDIT: In Splendor+`s brochure i saw a color called Excellent Blue . If this is same as mine then i will try to get a can of it . Also Hero is providing the Blue-red Stripe graphics which was featured in 2000-2002 splendors . It looks classy and good news for ppl those who wanted that stickers.Last edited by RohIIT; 06-23-2013, 01:11 AM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
It is unlikely that you shall find the exact factory colour (shade) or paint type , and that isn't necessary for paint-filling . The idea here is to find a near match , both in type and shade . Pick one of those tiny cans of Berger Luxol hard enamel paint that is closest on the shade-card , and berger's paint thinner for enamel paints . If you examine with magnifying glass you can see that the scratches have hills on the two edges and a valley at center . You have to rub down the hills carefully using just the sharp edge of a 400 or more grit sandpaper and fill just the valley with thin paint . You can use a fine artists brush or needle for this . You may need to apply few times more untill the valley is filled in after drying . Wax it then . They shall be invisible other than on close inspection . Good enough .
Take off the fuel tank cap cover flap and grease the door-joint with grease , it looks rusty too .Last edited by Pinaki; 06-23-2013, 01:21 AM.
