Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Yes , it's marketed here by pidilite ( made by a usa manufacturer named Cyclo ) . I got 100ml or so canister here for ₹100 only , better to buy smaller can as it doesn't store for years . If you wish I can ship you a can . Or you can get Isopropyl Alcohol ( rubbing spirit etc ) from electronics parts store ( sold as mobile-phone cleaner ) and soak the parts , exact same effect . Or else since you have time , you can soak the parts in hotwater+tide solution overnight and use a soft toothbrush . Poke the tiny holes on the jets with a plastic brush bristle like from a new toilet brush , and just blow off . Carb cleaner & compressed air is nice for a fast job , not essential .

Pinaki thank you sir for info , as shoeb said i will use a syringe and petrol to clean the passages . Can i use hairdryer to blow off the petrol ?.
I am trying to source one from nearby cities , if i dont get it i will surely disturb you for that
I want to do this job in complete peace of mind and try not to mess it up like fork job
Is isopropyl alcohol safe on rubber rings of carb ? As you used tide solution i will also dip the parts first in it then use petrol to clean it off.

Firstly, forgive for late replies , I'm having to come back very late and wet
.
Don't worry , the Splendor's carb is so very simple to service . Just be gentle with it , use correct size tools and take your time .
No , don't use petrol for this purpose . Although I often see mechanics do that , I don't think petrol would be a good solvent to cleanup gum & dirt deposited by petrol itself . Logical nahi ?
Yes isopropyl alcohol is very safe solvent on all carb parts . It's used for cleaning delicate electronics parts and also used for medical purpose directly poured onto human skin and as surgical hand scrubber . You can hasten the drying process with hair-dryer on low heat , no problem .Last edited by Pinaki; 07-13-2013, 04:46 AM.

Oh no problem da you can reply anytime you get free , It is so kind of you taking concern hereFirstly, forgive for late replies , I'm having to come back very late
, Take care of health too , i caught nasty cold
Its my first try on carbs so i am bit nervous , but your words are assuring .Splendor's carb is so very simple to service . Just be gentle with it , use correct size tools and take your time .
Yes of course , why to use petrol when it has varnish and other solvents , But since SVC and other mechs use here petrol (from our bike`s tank) for everything it is something of an universal cleanerAlthough I often see mechanics do that , I don't think petrol would be a good solvent to cleanup gum & dirt deposited by petrol itself . Logical nahi ?
I searched and found Rubbing spirit (mobile chemical as shopkeeper said ) . Any specific brands to look for ? . He quoted 70/- for 100ml .Yes isopropyl alcohol is very safe solvent on all carb parts . It's used for cleaning delicate electronics parts and also used for medical purpose directly poured onto human skin and as surgical hand scrubber .
This will help a lot , As i cant keep carb removed from bike too long .You can hasten the drying process with hair-dryer on low heat , no problem .

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
At my place the svc mechs are using some unknown brand oil , My friend at Raipur confirmed the same . But case is different at Metro cities . The oil is available at spare section. they generally range from 40-50rs per 175ml bottle .Originally posted by Pinaki View PostAny idea exactly what oil is used by Hero service centers for fork filling ? Anyone seen it ? Is that available for purchase at Hero parts dealers ?
Thats quite cheapI get local made isopropyl made for mobile phone repairers for Rs 20 for 200ml like this
it will serve other purpose as well .
On other note Fuel prices have been raised by 1.82Rs effective midnight .

You can also use Acetone to clean the carb. Acetone is also very effective to clean carbon. It cost 400 for 200ml in chemical store but don't need to buy that much, simply get a nail polish remover from any ladies corner, its cost rs10 (10ml) and that is a acetone too.
Try that and see the results. That can also be use to de-carb your engine head or cleaning spark plug.| SOL 68s | Rynox Tornado Pro | Rynox Advento | Cramster TRG2 | Scoyco MC20 | Hero 5 and SJ6 |

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
yes Paul , acetone is the ultimate dissolver of carb gum ( as well as many other uses ) and I have one liter bottle of it too . Nail polish remover is the equivalent , with a bit of perfume in it
. But remember that acetone destroys paint , rubber & plastic . So if you use it on the carb or elsewhere you must make sure to remove ALL rubber o-rings , gaskets and plastic parts ( float etc ) from it beforehand .
I'm off the thread for a few days, from tomorrow I've been assigned to election duty at undisclosed remote location . Anyone sending me pm or needing me kindly bear until sunday for replies .Last edited by Pinaki; 07-18-2013, 01:45 AM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
This really is a fantastic thread. Thanks to everyone that has contributed and I'm sure I'd have plenty of help if I buy any of these bikes.
I'm currently on the look out for a new bike (shifting from a TVS Victor) and have shortlisted the HF Dawn/Deluxe and Splendor Pro among others. I read on this thread that there isn't much technically different between Dawn/Deluxe and Splendor Pro, but Splendor Plus still runs on a previously used technology (something to do with ignition).
I like the Dawn's simplistic looks but I'm just imagining all the mocking I'd get from friends for choosing such a basic looking bike. But, I'm also guessing it would be extremely easy to maintain such a simple bike. Would you guys recommend this 97.2CC engine for extremely dense traffic - torque, pulling power, gear changes required and the ease of driving + stability at such low speeds? Also coming off of a higher BHP Victor, would the slight drop in power be noticeable?
Downgrading from the Victor, I'd be losing these: 130mm drum brake on rear. Larger 3.00X18 tire on rear, fuel guage and pass-light (on Dawn, Deluxe), and larger headlight reflector (the one on Victor is large and fantastic).
Also, would you recommend the Splendor Pro over Dawn/Deluxe for any specific reasons?

You are a member of T-BHP right ?Originally posted by hellmet View PostAlso, would you recommend the Splendor Pro over Dawn/Deluxe for any specific reasons?
Anyway, do consider Passion XPRO Self Spoke model which costs around Rs.55,000 on-road.
Self start is an essential feature in Hyderabad's traffic- so HF Dawn can be ruled out.
(1.Introduction of new signals at every junction and minimum waiting time being 30 secs you can switch off and restart the engine easily to save fuel
2.To avoid others honking at you when the bike stalls in slow moving traffic due to bad roads and metro rail project-FYI,these bikes hardly stall even in a higher gear due to good low end torque but still
)
I would prefer a Splendor Pro over delux because I have felt the quality of splendor pro(Self spoke Rs.52,000) to be a notch better. Test ride XPRO, Splendor PRO and also Super splendor and decide. All these bikes are dependable and will serve you for a very long time with very less maintence.Last edited by shoeb2015; 07-20-2013, 01:36 AM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
As shoeb has said go for passion xpro spoke or alloy model. In alloy model you will get tubeless which is another benefit. Also xpro has very bright headlight which will be helpful especially coming from TVS as TVS bikes have best light in buisness. Also it has 130 mm drums at both ends or if you want you can get disc and engine is also 9 bhp and 110 cc with good low end torque. Also mileage will be 65+ even in heavy traffic. In HF dawn/deluxe the quality is not as good as splendor pro/passion pro or xpro.Originally posted by hellmet View PostThis really is a fantastic thread. So i would advise you to go for xpro. Another thing is to get glamor. Recently one of my colleague at work got a glamor. Man, it feels so smooth to ride and very comfortable. I would ask you to test ride it before deciding. As for low end torque nothing beats glamor among commuter bikes.
I do not know what Hero has done but it puts out 10.35Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. So basically this thing pulls like a locomotive. Even on inclines it pulls in fourth gear like crazy. After riding the glamor when i ride my extreme i feel as if it is not pulling in low end. So in traffic like hyderabad you will be greatly beneficial as you can ride in 3rd and 4th gear. Mileage is 60+ and you will get self start, 130 mm drums on both(disc optional),super smooth ride, and a good top end of 100 kph true speed. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I got some time now for doing the front fork & steering lube that I have been planning for sometime . First I went to Hero service center , but the really nice & experienced mechanic guy (earlier he was working at yamaha service so I know him for a long time ) has left the job and the new mechanic put me off in many ways .
1) they would not clean+lubricate steering bearings , they shall only replace the bearing+racer as whole with OE part .
2) they shall also replace fork oil seals and fill their own (unknown) oil only . Not forthcoming about full disassembly and cleaning of fork parts .
3) they shall charge for front fork service and steering bearings work seperately in full . Nearly ₹900 estimate for full job .
4) I have to book for the work 4-5 days in advance .
"Inspect , lubricate and adjust steering head bearing .." is mentioned in my 2010 Splendor+ free service coupons that came with my bike's owner's manual - so I knew that they are lying about this one at least . Hrrrmmppfff ! Lubrication interval given in owner's manual is every 10000 kms . No replacement life mentioned . So I guess I don't need to replace a perfectly working one at 15000 kms now .
So I got these today ... Front fork oil from gulf for ₹100 (350ml single pack) . Others available in various shops around here were Veedol (tide water) 175ml ₹50 , Endurance 350ml ₹90 , Motul expert heavy 20w 350ml ₹120 , Castrol and one local brand 175ml ₹25 . Other than the Motul none mentions the oil grade on the pack .
A reasonably ok measure which I already had in my tools . Shall do or more accurate needed ? How much to fill in each fork leg for Splendor+ ?
I have got a local mechanic to come to my place and help me disassemble and reassemble . He has the tools . The local mechanic wants to reuse the fork oil seals since there is no defect . Chalega ?
While lubricating the steering bearings I wanted to replace only the balls since there is no problem with the handle as such .. it's just a bit stiff and dry from 3 years of use . So I know the bearing-race is in very good condition . With this also I had problem that Hero or Hero honda or SKF bearing for this is comming only as bearings+racer sets . So I got these . This is genuine OE Bajaj part (₹16) , any problem with using these in the Splendor's steering ? Size ? Number of balls ?
Also I have two greases for this work in my stock , which is better for this use .... since this is not a high speed wheel bearing I was kinda thinking about the waxpol .
If everything falls in place I can do the work tomorrow , else I have to go hunting again . Please advice quickly
.
