Great to see this thread buzzing with technical info that can be useful to all bikers !! I am still going through pages

Any insider news regarding what would happen after agreement between hero and Honda ends in 2014 ? Will hero altogether stop fitting honda engines on their bikes ?? I doubt it, as they did not seem to have own engines ready yet . This brings to question, that what really will end of agreement mean to hero and its customers ??

New engines might have been developed already and bikes with new engines will roll-out when the time is appropriate. 250cc powered bike is going to be released anytime soon.
Else how do you think Hero decided to end the agreement with Honda ?

1. Already the existing model which hero has will remain with hero as hero has already bought the rights from Honda and license to manufacture.
2. All new vehicles that will be launched after 2014 will be of HERO. Even the new technology that Hero is bringing is not like it is buying from Honda, instead hero engineers and EBR engineers have worked together and the rights is of HERO.
3. Hero will first launch a 250cc single which will have more power than the current CBR and will be priced same or less.
4. Next is a new model of extreme which will sport bigger engine in 200 cc range with four valve and FI. Actually this is slightly far away in late 2014, and do not ask me where i got this news, as the source i got the news has requested me to keep quiet as his job will be at stake.

Friends , what no spanner i need to use to open top bolt of fork ? Is it 19mm ? Can i clean them without changing o- rings ? The screw which holds speedo cable to brake area is damaged badly (there are no more edges so philips driver isn't working) how to remove it to replace , any ideas ?

Do you mean cleaning the fork internal without changing the fork OIL-SEAL ? Yes,it can be done. If the seal is more than 3 years old, it is better to replace them as they tend to leak after the fork is disassemble/cleaned.
O-Ring and lower bolt copper washer generally lasts very long and can be re-used more than once.

Try to cut a line on the screw by using a hammer and then use a flat screw driver. How badly is it damaged ? Post a picture .

EDIT : Always clean the fork and all the parts thoroughly when overhauling, sludge can deposit inside the piston if oil is not changed periodically.

[MENTION=57344]RohIIT[/MENTION] To un-screw the speedo screw, first hit the screw hard 3~4 times with a iron/steel rod (the corners should be flat) and then use small little chisel and small hammer and slowly try to rotate the screw by hitting to its corner. This way it will come out. I have done this in mine long time ago.
If this doesn't help then drilling and re-threading will be the another option.

Hope So!!! To me too, hero plans looks to be aggressive. As per agreement, they had write to use Honda name till yesr 2014 but they stopped using Honda well before it. So they look to be quite confident in their approach.

Sibun, Good Info. New model of extreme would rather be interesting to watch for. These days...I am quite tempted to buy Splendor, it started looking quite classy now just like bullets. You would be surprised to know that in punjab/Haryana people are either buying bullets or Splendor !!

Revving up bike in morning has deteriorating effect , Just start the bike and let it idle for 2-3 min , Adjust idle rpm so that it doesnt shut off when started in cold condition. Just a vague example - we do warm up exercise before running so as to avoid any muscle failures , in same way if we rev bike just as it starts it will have bad effect on engine therefore idling it a bit is healthy for its life @All I tried to shape/edgen the screw but due to lack of skill i am doing more damage to it , so i will let mech do it .

You bet the new model extreme is also what i am waiting for. Already the present model feels quite hooligan and revs upto 10k rpm in fifth gear also, and the four valve and FI will do wonders to it.
Regarding splendor, then let me tell you classic styling is always best. No matter how stylish the bike is one day it will look odd. The more stylish it is the more odd it will look after some years, but simple styling looks always best. You can see the photos of my JOY in my signature, it looks so simple but still looks fresh after 12 years. Even after 12 years it looks new and styling doesn't look outdated. Its because it is very simple.
If you are tempted to buy the splendor then anyday you are welcome to our gang.

There is no need of revving the bike. It results in damage. Its like somebody waking you from deep sleep by giving a slap.
For warming open the throttle slightly(1/20th) and kick the bike. It will slowly run without stopping, wait for 1 minute the engine will get enough warm to run for 3-4 km in slow speed before ripping.

In my Joy i do not touch the accelerator, even though it will be 6 days in idle, just kick without touching accelerator it will idle without hiccuping. The idle will be steady and constant and it will not have any up and down wave.

thanks friends..What i used to do was start the bike and go ,not waiting for warm up..the bike felt sluggish . Today i warmed up my bike and it was smooth,,,,,,

Thanks for your contribution (pinaki,psr,paul and others). Fitted Mico Bosch U4A(had a Mico Bosch glowplug of Rs275 but lost it , so could not check if it compatible or not.) along with a new plug cap (make:SMIMS i guess).Has rubber boot at one end.Got for Rs 40 (including the boot). Mecahanic taped the rubber boot end as an experiment.Bike didn't break down in descent rainfall condition.Yet to see the performance in heavy downfall.

10Yrs and this thing still shines better than newer models , I especially love this color and its slowly turning into vintage as this color is getting rare . Can this color be repainted on it again , By entirely sanding and priming the tank and body panels . Seriously the quality of paintwork of this vehicle is so good , i just wash and wax it once a month , thats it !!. I want to completely make this bike in showroom condition . I have a dream to see my kids drive this , i am just 21 now .

Whenever you find original stickers get two sets of all the stickers. Tank and panel will be available in the future but getting the exact stickers will be difficult.
(Whenever I go to get spares from the main market, I never forget to ask for Joy's tank and stickers) Sibun is searching them since a very long time and if anyone is able to source it then please contact him. To do a small favor in-return for all that he has helped and shared experience with us....
