• Lighting Mod #1

Let me start with the easiest lighting mods.
Lighting Mod #1

According to some safety regulations, a kind of ceramic layer must be coated on the tip of the bulb to reduce the glare.
By removing this coating, a slight improvement can be noticed without causing too much of glare for the oncoming traffic. (These are 35Watt bulbs anyway)

To remove this coating- I used a new razor blade, took me 5 mins to remove it.

Half done.

Finished Bulb.

More mods- COMING SOON.

Hi all, lot of technical discussions going here. In the midst of this, let me tell you what i did today. I went to A.S motors, Tiruvannamalai (authourized hero dealer) for a water wash for my passion pro. I was charged Rs.60. The person who attended me inspected the bike and finally he noticed the scratches and told me "sir, your visor has got scratches". I replied "it was made by you people during 2nd free service". He then never said a word to me. He was a new guy, so i dont know much about him. My biggest enemy is the head mechanic of that ASC. I shall tell that incident too later. So,.. the water service was good to my satisfaction. He also greased the clutch lever, front brake lever, all the foot rests which was never ever done by that head mechanic.

My dad use to ride the bike during week days. He was reporting a problem that the handle bar is loose for the past 3 months. What the problem was, if the handle bar is turned full to the left, the handle bar alone can be turned further for upto 3 cm in circumference wise and vice versa. Before 2 months i was in a good relationship with the ASC. So i went and asked the head mechanic regarding that. He told that "there must be enough play in the handle bar and thats what your bike has got". I replied "i checked for the same problem with my neighbour's splendor but there was no play as you said. It was rigid." He told "there will be a pair of rubber bushes below the hand bar and it will get harder as the bike grows older". I got convinced! But my dad kept complaining.!

Today, when the bike was being washed, i decided to test that hand bar problem in those new bikes which were lined up in the showroom. There was NO SUCH PLAY in any of the bikes. I was like..... what a big fool i am!!. Then i visited my mechanic ant told him the problem. Without even seeing the bike, he told that the "hand bar mounting rubber would have been worn. Just get a new one for Rs. 20". Spare parts shop was near by, so i bought that rubber and got the problem fixed in just 10 minutes. The hand bar is strong again!. I wonder how my dad found it and i did not. Then went for a short ride for 40 km and returned home.!! Click image for larger version

Any tricks to improve brightness of headlight?
Brakes make horrible sound and is not any good.I guess cleaning is necessary.
Also on idle the front wheel vibrates awful lot.
I guess your friend's bike will have old type headlight reflector, change it to Clear lens type seen in Current Splendor+ bikes.
I had got it changed with Clear lens type from LUMAX for my 2001 Splendor few years back and got a new Halogen bulb.
The lighting was better than stock.

Help needed..

Strange noise coming from engine, Fazer 2011, 16.5K kms

20140224 1941131 - YouTube

I had been riding quite fast these days at high rpms. This noise is slowly increasing from a few days.

At high speeds it appears someone is following on RX100 but it is me alone!

Showed it to a local mechanic who diagnosed as timing belt, bush, unable to grip something, something. I dont know ABCD of what he said. Has anyone encountered such noise? He said he cant rectify it.. I have to go to SVC.

I know this is not the fazer thread but experts are all here!

Do not make the gearing taller as it will not have the torque to pull. Use 14/43 teeth sprocket set of y2k splendor. In splendor no need of special engine oil as any engine oil will work. In my Joy i have filled 10W 30, 20W 40, 10W 40 and 15W 50 oils and bike didn't have any major problems. For brakes open the drum, clean with sand paper and change the brake shoe with OE asbestos brake shoes. As the brake shoes gets hard the brakes make noise. Pinakiji have given a beautiful post on same.If on idle front wheel vibrates a lot then check if the front wheels have play in it for detecting worn out bearings. If the wheel has play that means there is need for new wheel bearings. If the wheel bearings are ok then its the engine that is loosing compression. Clean the head and polish the valves. All problems will be gone. By the way at 40k kms you have to open the head for cleaning the head and polishing the valves.

The thing that he mentioned is known as handle bar grommets. They damp the handle bar vibrations and shocks. I have seen many owners replacing that at my mechanic place. But strangely in my Joy i have changed only one grommets in this entire 13 years and 3.5 lacs kilometers. The present grommets still works like charm even though it was changed almost 4 years ago.

The noise that you have mentioned is the timing chain tensioner noise. The tensioner is gone and the rockers are loose. Adjust the tappets and also change the timing chain tensioner. While you are at it check the timing chain pads for any wear. Do these and bike will become silent like new bikes ybedekar- Nice bike, change that rear tyre to 3.00-18 size for added grip and better looks shoeb- As my doubt was it was the engine oil as it was gone beyond words. Since my bike doesn't consume oil the oil level was as good as new oil, but upon draining the oil was all black and had thickened with sludge. Moreover the point was since my crank is having play it will be churning and beating the oil which will be causing early deterioration of oil. Another point is that as you know my retailer friend if brings any new product it is tested on my bike. He had bought the cyclo oil treatment and said me to test it in my bikes engine as to see if it kills the crank noise. At first i hesitated then decided that if the engine felt odd, will drain the oil at the most. So added that and that thing was thick as dendrite. May be it caused the oil to damage so soon and also thicken the oil. Have changed the oil and cleaned the filter. Chain was alright and not needed to be adjusted. It is 2k kms after chain set change but still have not lubricated as the original solid grease on chain is still there and chain runs like dream. And the best thing i have saved for last:-LOOK AT MY CRAZINESS, MY EXTREME IS RUNNING OF VEEDOL TAKE OFF PREMIUM 4T 10W 30 MINERAL OIL COSTING Rs. 230 BUT THIS TIME I CHANGED THE JOY'S ENGINE OIL WITH SHELL ADVANCE ULTRA FULLY SYNTHETIC 10W 40 AT Rs.750. AT MY HOME EVERYONE THOUGHT I HAVE GONE MAD.Also the previous sunday serviced the extreme on my own with all points checked, will post that in extreme thread. The reward of a good service:- Touched 115 kph on extreme with throttle still left to twist more.

If the petrol-vapour smell is there in the air-filter box then most probably it will be there in the engine oil too.
Please check it and let me know.

Also, what is the idling RPM of your bike (aprox) ?

Dear Sibun,

Now replaced capacitors with battery (New AC Delco Battery) Red & black color I get 12 m warranty at surprising price of 300 rs w/o old battery.)

Still i have not noticed any difference in using capacitor & battery. Just using to save CDI as told by you.
