It is easier to appreciate the differences from externally examining the new hero engine with old hero-honda ones . The new ones with self-start ability has different crankcase , magneto cover and obviously a different magneto and wiring harness . The CDI and ignition system is also changed to DC . Battery type has changed . New magneto has more coils and generates more power . The engine overall generates slightly more power and torque too . Naturally there shall be a cost in fuel mileage . So almost the only way to upgrade to self-start would be to replace the bike with a new model one , or do a full engine swap .

Yes , that bolt has to be removed . I have changed the balls in there too ( without replacing the racer ) and regreased them well . It works ok for a while . But sooner or later the whole set has to be replaced and skf caged bearing & racer set is the best replacement for this ( vs the OE racer-bearing ) . But at that time I had not much choice , my handle had become uncomfortably stiff to turn .
You'd better take help of a reputed local mechanic for this , from my own experience it is a laborious job .

Generally on hero bikes , AC CDI have red plug cap whereas DC CDI have black plug cap.

Dear Rohit

I think reverse.
Black one which was used since start is ac cdi. New bikes have dc cdi and red cap.

Just give me few weeks of time, I have something to post which can solve the lighting problem.

P.S - I am Sorry, if my post feels rude in anyway.
Even i am eagerly waiting for your post on light improvement as my Joy has not so bright lights and after riding the pleasure and Extreme more is the feel for brighter light on my Joy.

Once the racer is sealed then no need of greasing until and unless racer is changed.

Greasing is usually done by SVC in 6th service and is just a process of minting money and opening and re-greasing the racer will actually increase the rate of wear of the coneset.

And for first time i would always advice you to change the racer at a mechanic and observe how it is done as it is very labour intensive job and also requires skill to make the racer seat properly.

As for changing to self start then i have posted in a post in this forum on what needs to be changed and the cost associated with it. I have given a detailed explanation on the same, so try to search and you will get a better insight into the difficulty.

Your CDI is DC CDI as the connectors itself denotes that as in AC CDI there will be a supply from magnet for charging the coil which is not there in your bike.

And please fit a battery otherwise you will not only fit a new battery but also a new CDI after some time with a cost of Rs.1400.

shoeb- Finally i think my Joy's rings have started to loose compression as bike is loosing torque. The thing is that bike still pulls the front up on slightest provocation, touches 100 kph without breaking a sweat but with two up bike feels strained to pull when given hard acceleration. It means the rings have become weak and bike is not producing torque under load.

Will check after changing the engine oil as engine oil is due for a change.

I replaced the cone set last weekend without any good reason. 10 years old was a reason to replace them.
I had replaced the cone set of my passion several times because of the abuse it took but never on my '04 splendor.

SKF was not available, did not feel like going with OE so got this Zodix kit. It costs Rs.170/- and is nicely packed.

The one on the left is the top cone, middle one and the right one are bottom racer-cone. (top racer is not in the above picture)
The grease was water damaged and color changed to mayonnaise like. Bottom racer-cone was damaged but the top one was in immaculate condition.

As sibun rightly mentioned, the job is easier said than done unless you have someone as an assistant.
Sorry, I couldn't take any pictures - hands were too greasy.

@sibun
Is it normal wear or because of crank ?

Hello Experts,

I have small problem with my HH Passion Bike at its chain cover, One of the nut loose its thread or the chasis lost it's thread (I don't know) and the lower portion of the chain cover made very annoying sound when ever my bike goes of rough road surface, small potholes, speed breakers or anything not smooth... It sounds the back of the lower portion will fall anytime.

My question is how to solve this problem ? If needed I can buy a new chain cover, but I want to get rid of that annoying sound. Below is the picture of that nut, it can be rotate any direction by hands.

You can go by various methods
1. Insert metal strip of pan masala can, then try to tighten, some grip will be there if threads are ok ok

2. Using tap and die, slightly bigger size thread can be made say of 11mm bolt

Same problem happened in mine bike, it was cross threaded due to which bolt went halfway in. Mech used a tap and rethreaded the hole, it works alright now

Hi RohIIT,

Sorry..... I forget to mentioned my earlier post, that it neither coming out or not goes in....the nut just stuck there, what ever direction I try to rotate it just continues be it hand or socket range.

It seems it not going anywhere.

This is the actual problem. Even I want to go naked chain but can't...I'm not able to uninstall the chain cover.

Thanks Sibun for your views. I will fit new battery this week end. I just checked for battery at couple of shops it is in range of 700-900 Rs. Even SF Sonic, Amco, Exide, Amron also. Any cost effective solution ?

Regarding CDI then how bike is running w/o battery. It may have some connection with magneto.

The alternator produces AC current, RR rectifies it to DC and this DC current is used by the DC CDI.

Obviously, the current produced at the time of kick start is very less so there will be some tiny amount of delay in starting.
So, when there is a battery- there is no need for the CDI to depend upon the RR and alternator at the time of kick start.

It is a safety feature which is there to prevent you from getting stranded incase the battery decides to die all of a sudden.

The same thing too happened in my bike once about 5 years ago with same bolt but with opposite one.
It was very hard to take out. What I did is I tried numerous number of things. I tried small hexo to cut the tip, it was not easy to cut somehow I managed to cut a bit. Then I tried drilling on the tip. Somewhat it drilled but that to didn't work either because the bolt was keep on rotating. I kept on drilling to damage the tip at the most. Then I used hammer and cutter (chenni) then start cutting the tip.
It was so irritating, I thought it is not possible but I make my mind no matter i will do it, and kept on doing it untill and unless it comes out and for that the area around that chaincover also got damaged. But I was happy that I get rid of that bolt.

Try tighening your chain and open the top cover and refit it as it has gap/groove on its right side which has to fit with the bottom cover. I suspects chain cover is not fitted perfectly therefore chain touching the cover. Also check the chain adjusting mark on both side. It should be align and straight. If chain keep on loosing the check half excel nut. Sometimes if thread got damaged then also chain will loose.

Don't go for bigger front sprocket. A 1 teeth increase in front is equal to 3 less teeth in back. Bike will not pull, it will be too tall and drop in FE. So intead go for 1 less teeth in back, for that chain kit of cd-dawn of DIAMOND make and there will be written 14/42 teeth on the box.

For engine oil, as of now in winter go for 10w30, and in summer 20w40, 10w40 will also do in both seasons.
Go for veedol take off 4t plus, or shell/gulf/motul all are good.

For improving brightness, I just wrote a few pages back. And here is the copy of the same

" All I/we can suggest you is to change the meter lights which runs on AC to led. Also disconnect the 5w taillight from AC and connect to DC along with your leds. Change reflector if its gone bad. This modification will bring a lot improvement in light output. Also if you want more then change the bulb to HS1 Philips or Osram Silverstar both are good (check my signature down below and you find the link). Also buy a regulator of bullet machismo and change it. It just a regulator not rectifier, your rectifier to charge the battery will remain the same OE. Then when you will see the output, you will love it. Everyone in your friend circle will be amazed. The output will surely blind the oncoming traffic."
For brakes, its a very easy job and I like doing it. Clean and grease/lubricate each part well and wash the drum with detergent and brake will become effective.

My bike wheel vibrate too in ideal, actually its the fork which vibrates, and I think its normal. It don't vibrate when accelerate.

And yeah, as u said bike is 14 years old then do must check wheel bearings if they got play then change them to FAG.
