Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Well , one of the main advantage of foam air-filter is that they are re-usable , my owner's manual says to clean every 2000 km and nothing about replacing it . The general recommendation about replacing is when the foam element starts to physically deteriorate or break down , otherwise if they are intact they can be cleaned reoiled and reused indefinitely . My earlier exp with yamaha Rx & Crux , their foam elements were superb quality and never needed replacement in 6-7 years and 46K kms of my use .Originally posted by Bismaya View Post

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Even though that is what the manufacturer recommends, it would be best if you ignore the cleaning part and blindly change at every 5k intervals.Originally posted by Pinaki View Postnothing about replacing it.
Reason for the same is that though not noticeable to the naked eye, these filters loose their material integrity after every wash cycle and do more harm than good in the long run.
So if I were you I'd urge you to change the AF every 5k km's as I've been doing on my P220 and CT100B.

Blindly changing it 3-5k kms is also cost effective. It is on par or slightly cheaper than using/replacing a viscous oil paper filter every 10-12k kms.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Postblindly change at every 5k intervals. Cheers A.P.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
this not the first I'm servicing the air-filter and there is a noticeable downfall of the material quality of the foams and their stitching & glue . I always follow the recommended cleaning with kerosene and never use petrol . Using petrol does disintegrate the foams . Anyway if yearly replacement becomes imperative I am considering replacing the air-filter box with that of Splendor-pro and thereby switch to paper-element filter , for much less hassle . Only thing is that the new paper-element filter having much less air-flow may not suit my old engine or ...Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Post... though not noticeable to the naked eye, these filters loose their material integrity after every wash cycle and do more harm than good in the long run .. change the AF every 5k km's as I've been doing on my P220 and CT100B ..
Thanks brothers . My bike is going to be ten years this June and I am going over all it's service items now . Cleaned the rotary oil-filter & mesh , replaced oil , throttle cable , new CR6HGP plug , new set of front wheel bearings ( OE) , replaced speedometer pinion kit (OE) , greased the steering bearings with new balls for the last time before subsequent replacement , cleaned and refilled the fork with new oil ( 163ml veedol ) and oil-seals ( hta ) , replaced the battery with new sealed unit from sf-sonic , replaced the flasher with a solid-state flasher from swiss etc . The bike has little chain noise at startup and something seems loose inside the speedo unit which I'll open & check and also planning to replace the front sprocket . Other than these minor niggles it's running splendid , excellent throttle response and fuel mileage is still about 72 kms per lit .Originally posted by ashwanth.r View Post.. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Passion Pro has completed 99,000 kms and still going strong. In the last service, the following works were done.
1, Engine oil replaced (Veedol take off 4T 20w 40)
2, Replaced both the front foot rests. The old ones gave up after using it for 7 years. (Cost Rs. 180 per piece)
3, Replaced the 4 rubbers inside the rear wheel hub since there was a considerable amount of play in the rear sprocket.
4, Drive chain also became full loose after using it for 30,000 kms. It reached the maximum adjustable limit. So, removed 2 links and fit the chain back. It runs good as usual.
5, Water washed the bike.
Now, the tail lamp is not working. Have to fix that.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
My Hero Splendor Plus is 2 years old now. Clocked around 9000KMS. I have been doing all service so far with Hero ASC only, the bike is running with Hero Super Premium 10W-30 OE oil till date, I'm thinking of changing the engine oil to either Castrol, Motul or Shell. Is it wise to use Semi-Synthetic oil in my bike as I will be riding only within city and it has clocked only 9000KMS....
I have shortlisted the following oils to use during my next service:-
Mineral Oils :-
1. Motul 3000 Plus - 10W-30
2. Shell Advance AX5 - 10W-30
Semi-Synthetic Oils:-
1. Castrol Power 1 - 10W-30
2. Motul 3100 Gold - 10W-30

March 19th, 2020.
I got transferred to Hosur. So I rode from Chennai to Tiruvannamalai (185 kms) on 17th March. Rode to Hosur on 19th March. It was a distance of 170 kms. The roads were a bit okay from Tiruvannamalai to uthangarai. From there till Krishnagiri, worst condition. From Krishnagiri, we take the Chennai- Bangalore highway. It took me 4 hours and 30 mins.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Try mineral oil from Veedol/ Castrol / Motul/ Shell. They are way more smoother than Hero 4T plus. Hero genuine oil does only one thing that is lubricating. There is no smoothness factor in it. Irrespective of the brand or type, change the engine oil at 2000-2500km. In that respect, semi-synthetic oils are unnecessary. Always stick to company recommended grade of 10W30.Originally posted by prasath_xbhp View Post

Thanks. Apart from these top brands u have mentioned, I'm also thinking about using Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W-30 and Mobil Super Moto 10W-30. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The Splendor engine can use a 20w40 oil as well. I have used a 20w40 oil on my Splendor Pro and it has done some 72,064kms now. I previously used Motul and now have switched to Gulf Pride. Both mineral oil. Veedol 10w40 is a good option as well. You do not need a synth oil on the engine. Draining early is the key. I drain every 2000-2200kms. You've done 9000kms in 2 years, average being 4500kms per year while mine does 10k to 12k kms each year.Originally posted by prasath_xbhp View PostThanks. Thanks. I'm looking at Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W-30 during my next oil change. For now I'm planning to stick to 10W-30 grade. Maybe after 15k kms, I'll switch to 20W-40 grade.Originally posted by Bismaya View PostThe Splendor engine can use a 20w40 oil as well. How much engine oil does Splendor Plus require?. Mine is 2018 BS4 model. Is there any engine oil capacity difference between the older Hero Honda Splendor and the Hero Splendor?
Amazon has Gulf Pride 4T Plus 900ml pack. Don't know if 1ltr pack is available. My Motorcycles :-

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Check the owners manual for engine oil capacity. My BS3 Passion Pro needs 800ml oil. Fill only as much as is mentioned in your manual. I have used 20W40 oil from 20k to 90k km's. The bike runs much smoother and quieter on 20W40. I thought that it offers better protection. But 20W40 turned out to be not so good for the engine bearings. There's at least a 5 minute gap between the engine warm up time of 20W40 & 10w30. Engine oil has to instantly flow everywhere while cold starting. With 10W30, the bike start and warms up instantly but that's not the case with 20W40.Originally posted by prasath_xbhp View PostThanks. My bike has run 115000 km. It started developing a click - click sound from crank somewhere around 95k km on odo, which still persists. That's when I avoided 20W40. My friend has a Splendor and we have an Activa, both of which are running on 10w30 and run 1 lac+ km. Their engines feel like new, zero crank sound and zero compression loss, whereas my bike will need new crank bearings some time soon. But this happened after 9 years of use which is really a long term. That's why I recommended sticking to 10w30. I have also shifted to 5W30 from 20W40 in my Maruti WagonR. Maruti Suzuki itself is recommending this change for longer engine life. Same should be the reason why every manufacturer except Bajaj has shifted to thinner oils like 10w30 and 15w50 from earlier 20w40 & 20w50 grades. Still only Bajaj recommends 20w50 for Pulsar/Avenger and till date I have not seen any Pulsar cross 1lac km without requiring engine overhaul. It's just my opinion. Happy riding!Last edited by MotoMan; 03-22-2020, 09:16 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Splendor+ oil capacity is 0.9L ( for new dry engine ) and 0.75 L when draining & refilling . But that's not important to know , because oil is never to be filled by volume . Maintain the oil level between max & min marks on the dip-stick at all times , that's it .Originally posted by prasath_xbhp View Post..I'm looking at Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W-30 during my next oil change. If you want to try gulf oil, try their synthetic PowerTrac 4T 10W-30 , it's excellent and economical too ( Rs 330 for 900ml ) .

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Sir but when we drain the engine oil, the gearbox will be completely empty right?. That's how I fill gearbox oil for my Suzuki MAX100R, u may remember I purchased a 5ltr Castrol CRB Plus can for my MAX100R back in 2016. I will drain the oil completely and fill exactly 900ml oil for the MAX100R using measuring cup.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostSplendor+ oil capacity is 0.9L ( for new dry engine ) and 0.75 L when draining & refilling . My Splendor Plus has been serviced by ASC team till now, from next service onwards I'm going to do it by a good local mechanic and I will fill engine oil myself. Honestly the engine oil is the primary reason I'm avoiding ASC.....[emoji16][emoji16]My Motorcycles :-
