its a very simple machine, i wl not gv ne "gyan", just ensure that the engine oil is at correct level, tool kit is in place, paperwork is clear, start n switch off couple of times, ensure battery is charged, ride back home. do not use self start in morning, morning start shud b with choke ON and kick gently. whenever during day u do electric start, pls use decom, then pull clutch lever and then click start. Caution-till 2nd service dont ride it above 60kmph, and never miss out on 1st 3 services

the electric start model does.. but better to cross check and verify.

Also ensure that all nuts and bolts are in place and are tight enough.. i have see PDI of bikes with the carb flange rings missing or loose.

Some parts are installed on the bike prior to delivery, like front foot rests, kick etc. Check that its done properly.

@ Flanker: Ask the showroom guy to properly check all your Oil Seals. Though it would normally leak for the first few KMs, but that's fine. No worries. This is an RE, so Electric Starts are almost just for show. Use Kickstarts more often. You are right it has an Auto-Decomp, and as JD rightly said check teh nuts bolts and stuff.

If you looking @ joining any riding Club or something, do get in touch.

              Happy Riding.

I assume you're talking about the gaskets. To access, most oil seals, you need to split the crankcase/open the head up.

                  Cheers,

Need help in understanding the problem

                      Hi All,
I laid my hands on thunderbird twinspark after 2 and half months of waiting period. I bought it from royal enfield brand store. Im very happy with the bike apart from few issues here and there without any help from brand store after visiting 4 times.

                      Complains
                      1. there is continous oil leak from the oil filter (this is what i was told by the service advisor). though visited 4 times till now, but no solution.
                      2. Tacho meter stops after 99kms. need to reset it after this.
                      3. Bike doesnt hit reserve at all. in on position itself it drains away all the petrol ..
                      4. Fuel cap leaks if i put petrol more than 5 lts.
                      5. new problem. lot of oil stains ( from complete casing where it has the oil filter opening.
                      6. new problem. i have noticed from spark plug till bottom all the sleeves have oil stains. i think its leaking oil.

Guys please let me know if problem 1 and 6 is major once or shall i live with it. as i have understood brand store service station doesnt seem to solve the problem.

And everytime i go with oil seal leak problem they charge me 15 rs for gasket something.

Tail lamp bulb had gone bad n i had to pay for it. Since this is the first time please help me. is it advisable to take t to some local mechanic to have it fixed.

                        1. There is continuous oil leak from the oil filter (this is what I was told by the service advisor). Though visited 4 times till now, but no solution. That is normal in new bikes. However get your Oil Seals checked. They are supposed to be checked and tightened if required before the bike is delivered to you.
                        2. Tacho meter stops after 99kms. Need to reset it after this. I Presume you mean Odometer, coz, Tachometer has marking in multiples of 1000s. Never heard of such a problem, though Get it checked and replaced if it is faulty. Should be done free since it is a Faulty part from the start. If that is not the case please write in greater detail.
Ditto, I had the exact same Problem. The fuel Cork is faulty. My dealer said it was not in Warranty. However, I didn't bother much since I anyways plan to change my Fuel cork with the one with a Lock and key mechanism to avoid fuel Vanishing/ Robbery.
                        4. Fuel cap leaks if I put petrol more than 5 lts.
Replace the Rubber ring under your Fuel cap with a Leather ring of the same dimensions. This should resolve your Problem.
                        5. New problem. Lot of oil stains ( from complete casing where it has the oil filter opening. Same as 1. Normal in new bikes.
                        6. New problem. I have noticed from spark plug till bottom all the sleeves have oil stains. I think its leaking oil. Never heard of that, get it checked and repaired.

Guys please let me know if problem 1 and 6 is major once or shall I live with it. Not sure about 6. The rest looks normal.

This looks like the old OIL LEAK problem in the REs. I have clocked only 670Km on my TBTS and first service is done. Have not seen any Oil stains on the Engine or near the spark plug. i was enquiring at the RE showroom if the oil leak problems are still witnessed on the TBTS or new UCE engines, he confirmed that those issues have vanised with the CI and LB engines. He says with new UCS engines oil leak is not an issue at all....
Better get the engine checked throughly

                            Thanks for the clarification.

Oil stains are in the engine head sleeves rite from spark plug till the bottom.
Oil filter leak seem to heavy now. I has covered the complete chrome cover.
My bad. i meant trip meter doesnt go beyond 99 kms. i reset it and now its stuck in 199.

New problem. Today morning when i started the byk I hear a kit kit kit kit sound from the spark plug. this sound doesnt go after acceleration and increases. But no other symptoms of less pickup or anything abnormal.

Im planning for 240km trip on friday. Is it Adviseable. or should i hold back. please suggest.

                              Update

Had been to enfield showroom and here is a small update.

                              1) Oil filter leak - Mechanic says last time i had left my vehicle there, there have put two gaskets. they removed both of em and put a new one. Now this is the fifth gasket.

                              2) Kit kit kit sound from yesterday evening - Bend pipe air leak. Have replaced the silencer gasket. sound gone now.

                              3) more than 3k RPMs some sound coming from the bike. Last time i had shown they said this is due to the number plate(IND). Was not happy with the answer. Today while raising the RPM saw battery moving up and down. Pointed out to the engineer. upon opening the cover we understood, during first service they topped up some distilled water and forgot to put the screw back.

                              4) Byk doesnt hit reserve - They opened the tap to understand reserve pipe was loose from bottom hence petrol flowing completely in ON.

                              5) Oil stains right from spark plug to bottom of the sleeve(dunno what to call this). They removed the top cover above the spark plug and noticed the gasket was not placed properly. they changed the gasket with the new one and fixed it back. Engine noise has reduced considerably. and byk is as smooth as ever.

All the problem solved and took 3 hrs.

Hope these issues doesnt crop up again.

Meanwhile guys i have planned long ride on my bike.

Currently i have maintained running in period very well. Till 1000Kms in 45km/hr.

After 1000kms i maintain in 70 to 75 kms per hour.

Please suggest what all i need to check before i start ff with a long ride. Im travelling 240kms one side. so please suggest.

After service showrom guys charged me 50 rs for gaskets.I refused to pay saying i'm coming for the same problem with oil filter leak the fifth time and everytime they are charging for the problem that is not getting solved. they sent me free of cost.

Meanwhile my byk has done 1400kms. should i still maintain 70 or i can go little higher . suggestions please.
