with regards to the timing gear replacement reported earlier -

I have a 2004 model T-bird, done about 62,000 kms, and still running stock cams, spindles, rockers, and springs.

The difference that i found was that i ride the bike in the right rev zone ( 2700-3700rpm ), and shift gears after pulling the engine properly.. and not going thump thump thump like you could do on the CI bullet.

This engine needs to be kept in the right rev range and not stressed at low rpms ( pulling in a high gear, at low speed ). And as a rule, change the oil pump shaft every 20-25,000 kms, since that also causes a lot of failures.

44k kms in 2 years is a good coverage on odo. Changing rear tyre at 29k shows that you do not ride rashly but then 32Kmpl is less mileage from a UCE engine.

Things to carry for a long drive

Things you should carry when you are on a long drive:
1.) Clutch Wire
2.) Accelarator Wire
3.) Chain Link Lock.

Also i disagree that you should always go to the showroom as i had a bitter experience when i went to the one in the Bannerghatta Road, N S Palya they cheat you and do not do the work keep you standing for hours and charge like hell. I recently bought a old 2006 thunderbird and it had lots of problems like it was shaking after 40 speed, they showroom guys asked me to keep the bike for 2-3 days and said they will fix the problem with some CAM change which will cost me about 8k. I met a guy in the showroom and he told me about a Mechanic named Sardar (Mobile#+919880667143) he only does Enfield bikes, he has a small workshop backside to Sagar Appllo hospital on Bannerghatta road. After disappointment from the showroom and begging them to see my bike i located Sardar and he told me to change the back tire and the shocks which was completely gone, i change my tire for 1950 and the shock absorbers for 1400/- bought it myself from J C Road Sandhy, tire replace from MRF dealer on J C Road, MRF Nylo Grip Plus. He fixed the shocks in 10 mins i was good to go, the vibrations and shaking was almost nil. As my bike is a second hand the first owner treated her like a doormat, never gave her the dignity she deserved, there was some oil which was in the engine, i gave my bike to Sardar in the morning and i took it in the evening he had changed some of the old parts and my bike is now seems to a new one. He takes guarantee of the work he does and if there is any problem after he repairs he will give back the money. I had some problems of the bike stopping and not starting without the choke. He figured it out as i had change my oil cap and the new oil cap was faulty as it had a thick rubber ring and the air was getting blocked and not passing to the engine after sometime as when the oil shakes during the ride it created air and the air needs to pass otherwise it creates a vacum, i put back the old oil cap and it is fine now, only thing is i key got added to my bunch of keys. Happy riding the new RE TBTS.

I had recently bought a Enfield Thunderbird 2006 Model means not Thunderbird without the twinspark, my electric start was not working and i got it repaired at Bangalore where i stay from the Service center for around 3.5k and it works excellent for me, even if the kickstart betrays the Electric start doesn't. Although i had faced and still facing issues with some problem or the other but the Electric start does not go bad for pressing Bar Bar. Your Mechanic may not be a qualified one, really knowledgeable Enfield Mechanics are hard to find but once u find him you can trust him, always u do not need to change the parts lot of Led work can be done and it will be one fourth of the cost of changing the part and u dont know when it will go wrong. So search for mechanic if u lived in Bangalore then i would have guided you, but Pune no idea.

I got 32kmpl previously and now it has increased to 40 kmpl(Bangalore-Mangalore highway) after the carb tuning. In City like Bangalore once cannot expect a better fuel efficiency.

Wonder how come a RE mechanic is suggesting the electric start when there are many cases of sprag clutch being worn out every now and then.

Almost all the RE mechanics whom i know suggests to remove the sprag clutch and use kick start only. The reason being
1.Sprag clutch has no guarantee
2.It is too costly(Rs.3500 approx)

I guess the problem you faced is because you used the electronic starter too much too soon....By default we tend to do that as that is what we come to expect from the push button start.... but just bear in mind that your pushing a button initiates a chain of process....So it'll obviously not be as instantaneous as we like.So the best suggestion is to go by the manual & give a break of atleast 30seconds between each time you iuse the electronic starter....
And the best way to keep the part in perfect shape is to ensure that you give your bike a few kicks every morn & rev it idling for about 10mins.. even if you do not ride it.I've been followin the same on my bike... & everyday it starts on the 2nd kick .....

This is the first time I am posting in Xbhp...I have also booked Thunderbird twinspark in Kolkata last month.Dealer said he will be giving the delivery by the month of May...just sharing one thought which i have in my mind.
I am 6ft tall, when I wanted to go for bullet first thing took my heart is classic. I wanted to go for C350 from my heart but my mind says thunderbird to be better choice...I am just asking the bikers out here that is there any drawbacks of c350 like skidding problem and other?? and how is the ride comfort comparing to thunderbird?

Even I booked a TBTS on Sunday and am expecting the delivery tomorrow ( 7th April ). I'm as excited as a KID and havent slept since 3 days and waiting to get my hands on the beast.

I did start a thread on this but did not get too much feedback but would appreciate help from fellow bikers.

Guys I have a TBTS '10 model, done 14000km so far. since last 500 km or so whenever i ride, there is scrapping sound from engine...though engine runs normal otherwise.
Starter motor spins but does not engage starter assembly. It was jammed inh place for two months, so I removed it on my own last month and refitted it. This solved problem with jammed starter assembly but now starter does not work and I have to use Kick.
last I tested, bike was returning a mileage of 37KMPL. is this normal for TS engine?
Is there any big difference between UCE & TS? 'cos AFIK... UCE was first introduced on TBird. and later they changed crankcase design.

Just got my TBTS silver delivered. In one word I can describe this beast as awesome. After riding a Unicorn for close to 4 years it was time for a change for the better. The sheer Torque and comfort delivered is something I will enjoy. I will give a detailed review in some days as Its just been 24 kms I have driven.

First problem I face. Lot of fuel leak from a black rubber pipe on the left near carberator. I need help. I lost a lot of fuel, Im going to the service center tomorrow. But would like to know from fellow XBHPians what this fuel leak is all about. Its freaking me out.

^^ could be the carb drain pipe not closed properly. With the pics of the bike, a pic of the culprit pipe would be useful.

Check the carburettor drain screw and make sure its properly tightened.

Thanks Jd666. I noticed this leak only when I reached office at 12AM. by then I had lost a good 2 liters and fuel guage is on dead read. I do not know anything about carburettor so Im off to the showroom first thing in the morning. Reading online reviews makes me understand that it could be a stuck float/punctured float or the issue what you just said. Some say shake the bike, others say tap the carburettor. But right now Im going to head to the fuel pump and let the RE guys fix it and tell me what went wrong. Ill keep posted and thank you again.
