it was a bullet standard 350 cc. when i bought it 18 yrs back its only competition was yezdi and rajdooth. Then enfield was a very prestigious bike to own.within 3 months of usage strictly following the recommended running in the engine siezed ,the gear box went kaput.i was told that it is very common in bullet bikes.Originally posted by madelikeagun View PostBro.. No Offense. I don't know what model of Enfield you owned. .
most bullets including mine leaked oil from engine head, gear box shaft, clutch side,on to my trousers on right side ,it leaked petrol from carburettor,it leaked acid from battery, oil splattered from the tube comming from gearbox on to my left trouser legs.
tappet noise, engine noise, exhaust noise and vibrations all around.
starting was always a nerve racking experience.i never knew when it would kick back even after decompressing.
if bike falls two people are needed to lift.
tail light fuses within days of changing for no reason, fuse of battery blew almost within hours of changing.
The shocking part is that these problems have never been solved by enfield even though they claim to have. Reading through this thread brought back memories of the nightmare again.almost all problems i faced has been repeated in this thread in bikes benig sold currently. Most reviews in automobile magazines will say the same thing.
these and other reasons i have given earlier has convinced me to keep away from enfield bikes untill they resolve all the above.JO DARRGAYA...SAMJOH MARRGAYA.......>Gabbar singh in SHOLAY

I had a correction to make. P220 has more power @ 21.04 than the TBird. The Avenger 220 generates same power @ 19.03 as TBird.

Hi Guys,
This is Rahul from Pune. I am a habitual reader of this site. The reason I used habitual here is, whenever I login to my system in office, the first thing I do is open and read xBHP logs that I have left incomplete last day (instead of opening my Outlook Inbox and check for any FIRE mail..
). This is my first log here.
The reason I am writing today is, I really can't hold on now to jump into this BIG ocean of bikers. And I know you guys will definitely help me for all the (stupid) queries I am going to ask about bikes and bike rides. I want to know more and more about REs and hence the subject line..
So I think the introduction part is going toooo long. Getting to the point. I am going to book a Royal Enfield Thunderbird TwinSpark. Would love to here from gurus and owners about the bird.
I am 26 and look wise I am a little less than average body type and 5.9" height. I have not shared my decision with many of my friends. I want to surprise them by showing it once I get the delivery of bird. But people with whom I shared this said that it won't suit me
. But who cares, what others feel. What matters is what I feel while riding. And I am damn sure that I'm gonna feel like the most powerful person when I am on my bull.
So the questions are:
1. Most people say that TBTS is not a bull. As far as engine, power, torque is concerned it is the same as any other REs in 350 segment. What differentiates it from others is looks. Then why they say it when it has no relation with the performance of bike? Would like to know performance wise difference in TBTS and other REs in 350 segment.
2. As others do, I am also planning to change the stock silencer of bird. I have read so many threads but still confused if I should change it on day one or should wait for some time.
3. Will it anyhow affect the performance or fuel efficiency of engine when silencer changed?
Thanks in advance!!Originality is the art of hiding your sources...

Welcome aboard
First your height has nothing to do with riding a bull. Much shorter people ride a bull and damn what others feel about it. Its what you like. I own a TBTS for the last 58 days and have covered 2500 kms and i dont regret a minute riding on it. Yes there are a few quality issues which you need to accept about it. Nothing serious but keep your eyes and ears wide open for the first 500 kms and report/replace any defects ASAP.
So the questions are:
1. Most people say that TBTS is not a bull. As far as engine, power, torque is concerned it is the same as any other REs in 350 segment. What differentiates it from others is looks. Whoever told you a TBTS is not a bull doesn't own one. I understand their pity that they don't own one because they dont deserve to. Its a class of its own and I don't expect everyone to understand it.
2. As others do, I am also planning to change the stock silencer of bird. I have read so many threads but still confused if I should change it on day one or should wait for some time.
I am not interested to change stock silencer so I have not researched about it and I cannot comment about it.
3. Will it anyhow affect the performance or fuel efficiency of engine when silencer changed?
Dont know
Classic 350 is a classic bull. TBTS is a Cruiser bull. Both class of its own. You need to decide what you want first and I don't compare both. Both are great machines in their own way!
Thanks in advance!!Motorcycle Trip log - Summer ride to N. Sagar | Leh 2012 - A story told in pictures | Winter in Darjeeling 2018 | Summer in Goa 2018 |

Hi Mate,
First of all, thanks for the reply!
Agreed that Classic 350 is a diff. class and TBTS is a cruiser. But is that all which differs them. Especially, when comparing in performance...
I would also like to know the difference between electrical systems of both. As Classic is totally DC and the TBTS is AD/DC. What will be affected in AD/DC system?Originality is the art of hiding your sources...

Hey Mate, you got it wrong. TBTS is full DC setup. The only and only few technical difference I quote I have seen in the TBTS vs classic 350 is the 55W halogen bulb in the classic 350 and 500. The 18" tyre setup in classics and the ground clearance. The comparison is there on the RE website for you to make.Originally posted by Rahul.Gvli View PostHi Mate,

Even the classic 500 comes with the same battery as that of the TBTS. 12V 14A. Classic 350 and TBTS has the same engine. No difference in technical specs.
Hope this helps.Motorcycle Trip log - Summer ride to N. Sagar | Leh 2012 - A story told in pictures | Winter in Darjeeling 2018 | Summer in Goa 2018 |

That's all what I wanted to hear from a guru/owner..... Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much.... You made my day..Originally posted by madelikeagun View PostClassic 350 and TBTS has the same engine. No difference in technical specs.
I have gone through the RE site and have compared both of them. (even with Electra too..) and found no difference. But still, wanted some spark to light me up to shoot those who say TBTS is not bull. You gave me that and now I am firm on my decision.
Going to book my own bird tomorrow..

The honor is mine. I'm glad you made a decision. Please let us know how your booking experience goes. I believe it takes roughly 3 months to deliver. However if you have full cash they try to push for you. Use your convincing skillsOriginally posted by Rahul.Gvli View PostThat's all what I wanted to hear from a guru/owner..... 2nd Service and Run-in complete
Hello thumpers!
I am 100kms close to the 3000 mark and this will spell the end of the run-in period. It has been a honor, prevelige and pleasure riding a bull.
On 12th July I will take my bull for 2nd service. Few issues I will sort out.
1. Rear wheel allignment. The rim is either bend or the allignment is not correct. I will get this sorted out in warranty.
2. Although service manual says engine oil and filter needs replacement only every 6000kms which means every alternate service. Im going for a engine oil and filter replace this time because the oil is Black as Tar and I personally recommend fresh oil after the run-in period.
3. Trip meter never worked from day one, but im not fixing this. I know this is a chronic issue with other bulls and I have no intention to have the complete meter replaced. The Odometer is sufficient for me.
4. Small strain of oil on top of the engine near spark plug, Ill get them check and fix.
5. Will go for a clutch cable replacement. The ones I have have started making a skreetch... sound when I pull'em. Ofcourse the constant use in traffic has caused this and from my experience this means, somewhere down the road im going to end up with a broken cable. Bad quality cables I should say for an excellent bull. My Honda clutch cables lasted 30,000 Kms and I only replaced it because I just wanted to replace it for the fun of it.
Apart form these small issues, the bull is so far doing excellent. More after I service.Last edited by madelikeagun; 07-10-2011, 01:32 PM.Motorcycle Trip log - Summer ride to N. Sagar | Leh 2012 - A story told in pictures | Winter in Darjeeling 2018 | Summer in Goa 2018 |

@madelikeagun congrats on completing run-in period
,
wheel alignment
- get it checked
yes changing oil at this time is a good idea
it's better to have everything on your bike to run, i think you must change your trip/odometer
they are common in bullets but do get it fixedSmall strain of oil on top of the engine near spark plug, Ill get them check and fix.
