    Thanks Rock!

Well after close to 36 hours I got my bird back from service. I was fortunate to find the supervisor who took in-charge was from Kerala. I had a chance to speak to him in my local language and explain to him crisp clear what I needed.

Washing was a waste, its been raining here in Hyderabad since last night heavily and my bird is full of dirt and mud. After Initial inspection I find the rear wheel alignment much better. Although its not perfect, I would say negligible. I'm going to ride this for a while and test at different speeds and curves.

Did not need to replace clutch cable, they lubricated it. However I bought a spare cable, which I will need for sure for my future rides to Kerala and Leh, God will

When I took the bull out of the service center I was just blown away. The engine has become so butter smooth, much more silent and I have no idea where all that power just came from.

I told my pillion (wife) this thing zooms like a bullet, and she said "it is a bullet, dumb"

Well, im impressed. I just enjoy riding this bullet more and more every single day, brings so much excitement in me, its this machine, a master piece, a testimony of decades, its really a legend.

And all those people who told me, only old bulls are real bulls, new ones are waste. All those who said a Thunderbird is not a bull, please, you dont know what you are talking about.

I have ridden my Honda Unicorn for close to 4 years, I know exactly what a Japanese riding experience is. A Bullet (any model), is something else. You got to own one to speak about it.

Rest is there for you to see. A legend speaks for itself, you don't need judges.

    God bless and ride safe.

        Hello Eshan,

Ofcourse I will share my experience. If you read my old threads you will know my experience with my bull was bitter sweet.

I researched for 1 whole year to understand this is not going to be a high quality Japanese model where everything is going to be perfect.

I had my issues from day 1. Carburetor float got stuck and I lost fuel worth 400 Rs from the over drain pipe. Although I didn't sue Royal Enfield, they fixed that issue for me on spot.

I also had starting problem, where when I clicked the start button, I heard a tick tick sound but engine starter motor never worked. I had to kick start. Both issues have been rectified on spot and till today I have been running fine. I can only thank myself because I calibrated my patience level enough preparing for these sort of stuff by reading others experience.

I cannot give you a long term report, however after 2 months and 3000 kilometers, my bull has not let me down. Its powerful, low end torque is a boon, and 5th gear is a super cruiser.

I stick with the running period specifics. Few worse things are the warranty - 1 year or 10000 kilometers tells you the confidence level of how much of a quality the product is.

The fuel tank cap could have been a much better quality. Due to the engine heat, fuel evaporates at a much higher rate through the fuel cap which is disappointing. Water can seep through the fuel cap easily. After rain, just open the fuel cap and look under, you will see droplets of water. This can cause problems later.

The fuel caps I had on the unicorn was excellent quality, the only bike i can compare with. There is no chance for water seep through or fuel evaporation due to the design. This is my take. I am in the process of finding a better fuel cap.

35 W head lamps is a waste. Get HID or fix 55W better halogens. All switches on the bike are high quality, better than the Honda's. I was impressed.

The riding experience is for you to ride and know. So I guess this may help you a little.

          Thanx madelikeagun..
I gave a cold talk to my parents today morning regarding TBTS...all they did was laugh at me!!! The reason for this laughing was all ever while i was shit crazy for Japs or those machines where you have your knee down every weekend. My dad started laughing out saying remember back when you were 18 i was offering the RE but you said you are not of a cruiser types cz its slow and noisy....its not strange for me that you are 23 now and asking for a RE...the bike has hit you hard and making you realize that you are a Man and you need a Den...he dint utter a word after that big lect!!

So home stuff is solved no worries on that...I called up the dealer today morning and there is a waiting of 7-8 months..i mean that like another life for me...

About the issues you mentioned, i will take every care of the bike the way iam regarding all the 3 bikes in my life right now.

Iam bit skeptical regarding the overall structure and every thing. I dont know what it is that is pulling me towards this bike that its everywhere...I hope you understand what iam saying. Mostly by this month end i will be going down to the dealer to book it!!!

Also i need couple of details regarding Oil required, I mean what grade? and how costly are the spares. Want to know everything about it, Iam in for the TBTS or the RE Classic 350, Dad forced for the 500 but I said no. The reason being too much of power, I mean from 180cc to 500cc is too much, can you please advise something on this buddy. I mean I have control and have clocked more than 2,50,000kms on three respective bikes. So how different is the 500 from the 350 one in terms of pick up, mileage, handling and overall stability ( heard its too bulky too)....

These are all the doubts lingering in my head. Iam in no hurry to get it under my name but just want to pick the right one out....

            Hey Eshan,

Glad to know you are interested in a Royal Enfield. For the questions you asked.

Royal Enfield recommends Motul which is an excellent brand. In my TBTS the specification is 15W 50 Motul 3000V, and in the RE service center, this is the same oil they use. I have seen barrels of it and confirmed that they use the same oil. Mind you, this engine oil is high performance recommended for Harley and Hayabusa, so you can imagine what importance RE gives to its engine oil. I like this part. An Engine is the heart, you can loose everything in abike, but if the engine goes you loose it all.

I spend 600 Rs on engine oil each service. Oil capacity is 2.75 litres, but they fill approx 2.3 Litres during service. You can purchase 1 Liter or 4 Litre cans from Motul distrubuters. 1 Liter is about 285 Rupees varies from different states. Performance biking store has this for sale online as well.
Spare parts are expensive. A bought a spare clutch cable for 94 Rupees. And replaced 4 bolts above the engine for 102.

Classic 500 is EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection). Royal Enfield CEO itself says that Classic 500 buyers have higer expectations because mostly buyers of C500 are car owners. You can expect high class attention from the service center, but I do not know. You got to ask the Classic 500 thread about this. The only reason why I didnt go for the classic 500 was waiting period, too expensive and fuel efficiency. During my calculation i realized the fuel consuption on Classic 500 would be too much on my pocket. Otherwise there is no reason why I wouldnt go for one.

I was also skeptical during long rides how the EFI would perform, if a breakdown, no soul will be able to fix the FI. But EFI is soon gaining the trust of bikers. I welcome this.

Classic 500 is a torque house. A transition from 180 to 500 is absolutely not an issue. After riding the 350CC TBTS I only crave for more. Im sure you will make the right choice. Follow your heart!

            best regards.

Yeah....also the news confirmed of the classic 500 chrome to be launched.
I would surely look into the conversion of 350 or the 500 for my fit. But the waiting is hell long, december jan is the delivery time. Did you have any type of breakdowns with the TBTS???and how were they tackled???

Yes, the chrome and military green has been around for a while. RE had been exporting it and is available in the western market for quite some time.
                (RE USA website http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/models/chrome-c5.html)

With the current waiting period and the new factory years from reality, I dont know what they are planning to do with the new models

Breakdowns??? hardly 2 months old! no ways!

                        • Scrapping noise from engine

I got my new Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark on 2 july 2011. While riding i found that from engine some scrapping sound is coming like Kharrr....Kharrr I took the bike to service center and they told me to mention the problem in first servicing. I showed the noise to a local mechanic and he told me it is the noise of Tappet. There are still 20 days for first servicing left and due to rains in mumbai i am rarely using my bike for commuting so this time first servicing is coming after 45 days of delivery. My concern is if i wait upto first service whatever that noise is coming will it not screw up my engine forever if there is a problem. People this is my first RE motorcycle previous 2 bikes were pulsar 150 classic and avenger 200 so i dont know how does a Tappet sound in RE.

                          • New TBTS

Hi all, I am also a proud owner of a new TBTS, got it on 21st July and just clocked 180 KM so far. On the day I bought, bike was giving some noise when riding with pillion from rear wheel when I cross a pothole/speed breaker, chain was too tight was the response from service centre. Rest the bike is super smooth and experiencing nirvana while riding. Keep Thumping.

                            • my bike chain was also tight and the rear mud guard was touching the tyre on right side i went to the service station and got it done but noticed still the scrapping noise is coming
