If i buy a RE, it will be my first bike. I have driven many models of bajaj and hero honda, but never a RE. So, will it be beneficial if i go for a second hand bike first to learn the trade of running and maintaining it? or i should buy a new one? For second hand bike, what should be the maximum kilometers run that doesnt compromise it quality due to wear and tear already happened?

        Fast Billa,

This is purely a personal choice. When I took my TBTS, it was the first time I ever rode a bullet. Never even a test ride. My friends said im crazy, but it doesnt matter. When you see people riding bullets for decades, there should be a reason behind it. I wanted to find it out myself.

You buying a second hand and trying to maintain it is not going to help you much. In my opinion. Because, old bullets have different engines. Different ways to kick start, maintain. The new UCE bullets are different. i find it not that difficult to maintin. When I say maintian i think you have taken it into a big context here. No, you wont do rocket science. Simple things like ensuring proper engine oil level. Cable free play. Chain tension are all written in the manual and you can do it your self. Please, for the big job, you have your RE guys who can do it for you.

Im not a master in bullets at all.

        Take care.

There is a new design crash guard available in Erragada showroom. None of the other showrooms in Uppal or Minister road stock crash guards. Althought they say stocks will arrive soon, that story has been around for months now.

I saw the new design crash guard on the classic and it suits the classic so well. The guy in the showroom said it maynot go well with the TB however its again owner's personal choice. He did not have stock of diamond guard but that was a month ago. You can maybe give it a shot again and check out varieites of CGuards they have.

                Hope this helps.

                    • Light Mod

                      Folks,

Has anyone here done a Light mod on you TBTS? Im looking to fit a 35W HID and atleast 1 Aux lamp on the crash guard, 2 would be perfect.

I can fix the Aux lamp later. First I need to fix the 35W HID Headlamp. Any suggestions or advice before I go for this mod?

I value expert advice, thanks in advance.

Edit: How do I know what the Bulb Holder type is. The current buld in the TBTS is the OSRAM original Line 12 V 35/35E ECE Category HS1.

LOL I just found the answer in the HID section. Holder type is HS1 and has a compatible version H4. So I'm still looking for a Xbhpian who has a TBTS and fitted 35W HID.

I am interested to buy a new motorcycle. I am particularly interested in Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark. But, recently some apprehentions have crawled onto my mind, and i want to clear them. A friend of mine said a few things and i want to ascertain the truth. Since, you guys are experienced riders on TB i have a few question to ask from you all:

                              1. Is RE TB underpowered for a 350 CC engine? Is 19.8 BHP@5250RPM power and 28Nm@4000RPM torque sufficient for a 350 CC engine?
                              2. Since, it has a 350 CC engine, ain't max. speed of 120 Kmph quite less?
                              3. How is the pickup of the bike in lower RPMs? Like when starting from Zero or accelerating after a traffic light stop.
                              4. Does the bike vibrate too much??
                              5. How is the performance of the front hydraulic disc brakes?
                              6. On an average how much mileage are you able to obtain?
                              7. My friend also stated that driving this bike at constant speeds like on a highway, will increase the wear and tear of the bike. So, he suggested to keep varying the speed while driving.
                              8. Is the bike comfortable if i take it upto 120kmph??? or will it rattle a lot due to vibration?
                              Pls answer my above queries.

                              Thanks and Warm Regards,
                              FASTBILLA
                              dear fastbilla,
after owning a RE350 for 18 years i will give you my honest input
1.bike totally underpowered for a 350.lowend torque is there but we dont need a tractor do we? we need a bike and the way it struggles to achieve any sort of speed from startup....
2.after 100kmph ride continuesly say for more than 50 / 60 kms the vibrations and noise will rattle you and haunt you in bed that night
                              3.pickup?? what is that?
                              4. rear drum brake???with that weight at more than 60 kmph?? are you contemplating suicide my good man?
5.comfort..yes definately like a sofa.no doubt about that
                              6. stability on bad roads pot hole road etc excellent no way any other bike can come near the enfield
7.but for more than 1 .25 lakhs enfield still gives us this and expects us to buy it?but then when there are takers there will always be givers...aint it?
8.oil leaks, starter problems, petrol leaks, this and that... that and this...do you have the time to be at the service center more than your office or college?

i finally sold off my bullet and went for a pulsar 220 ..MAN WHAT A RELIEF..all things good in biking is there in that bajaj man...comfort also but to a relatively lesser extent than RE but then easier steering.less noise, less vibration, excellent pickup, great top end, good lights all you have there mate..all this translates into a stress free hassle free torture free ownership experience...

rest is your take mate...you dont have to agree with me...
JO DARRGAYA...SAMJOH MARRGAYA.......>Gabbar singh in SHOLAY

                                .
Bro.. No Offense. I don't know what model of Enfield you owned. Here is my point of view.

Honda Unicorn - 55000 Kms in little over 3 years, thats an average 44kms/day. I had the best bike in terms of maintenance until - Had a blown up engine at 40k which had the Honda engineers cracking their head on with no answers. Not to mention their pathetic service and outrageous attitude because Honda sells well. After continuous emails to corporate Honda and I gave up, Ill tell you who fixed my engine. It was a retired Honda activa mechanic who once worked with Honda and quit because of their unfair service methods. To tell you that story i can write on, but this is not the place for it. What Im trying to point out is, if you talk about trouble, you will get it with any machine, it need not be an Enfield, can be the most trusted Honda or Yamaha as well.

Here is my point. Oil leak problem has been completely resolved in UCE as per RE. Well i don't believe any mechanic, so Im here 1 month 2000kms, and I dont have any oil leak problem or that vibration you have been talking about after a 150km stint out of town.

The Thunderbird gives you the same power a Pulsar 220 gives. Yes but Enfields are build for torque. For those who crave for power, yes, Yamaha is there. I don't mess with these legends.

Yes, 1.2 Lakh these are. But I don't know if its even worth buying an expensive 1 Lakh sports bike in the long run.

I agree there are quality issues, but after riding different sports bikes, this is a legend of its own. I don't compare them with other sports versions because they are a different class. If anyone wants a maintainable free engine, they can go for the legendary spender, just forget about maintainance, fuel and engine oil and keep riding on and on.
