  • I own an apache fi in yellow bought in sep2008 .I stay in delhi. Since the beggining there was the pik-up missing problem plaguing my bike and one fine day the fuel pump stopped working and had to be replaced. I had to wait nearl 20 days for the fuel pump change. Now i had given my bike for service 1 week ago and told them to adjust the front brake lever as the brake light was switched on even when i did not apply brakes, but now there is some problem in the brake pump and front brake doesnt work properly. when i press the brake there is braking for half a second or 1 second and then the brake lever gets fully pressed and touches the throttle grip and there is no breaking. The pass light switch stopped working a few days ago and svc said that the whole switchgear assembly on the left side(incl indicator switch, horn, headlight beam adjustment switch) needs to be changed ,cost= 450-500 and they dont have it in stock. If these guys dont have such small things in stock then what else do they have in stock???. My bike has covered 5500 kms and today there ws sum noise from the chain and when i showed it to a local mech(I have started trusting this guy more than svc guys) he said that there is prob with the front "'GARARI"" i don know what this means .pls enlighten me but this is the part on which the front end of the chain sits and it has teeth. i guess this is the front sprocket(correct me if i am wrong). he said the sprocket is damaged and i saw it with my own eyes . its teeth looked damaged but he did some jugaad and took it out , reversed it and out it back in place. i dont know what he did was right or wrong but it worked and there was no noise from the chain.I may not be the perfect rider but i am not such a bad rider so as to spoil the sprocket within 5500 kms, i doubt this whether this damage happens so early. What the hell did they do with my front sprocket??? I had told them to lube my chain and i find my front sprocket damaged. Did they change my sprocket with some other bike?? or were they playing football with it??The svc guys had told me there was some minor prob with the brake and it wil get rectified on its own in 3-4 days. i doubted that but still believed them . today my mech also told me there is some leakage from the oil chamber, i will verify it tomm. The pik-up missing prob still persists. In evening i called the showroom guy from whom i bought the bike and told him everything and he promised to call a TVS engineer within 1 week. I am pissed off with TVS service and want to sell this bike. i will get all issues rectified and sell it and maybe buy fazer.I gave the bike to CPL service center in Okhla , new delhi.it is the only service center for fi bikes in south delhi(correct me if iam wrong). This FI technology of TVS has failed miserably
my bike has done only 5500kms

i did 123 on the road leading directly into the bangalore international airport. I was in 4th gear...with 5th gear still to go...bike was howling at 11k rpm!

          Carbon deposit in my piston

Scratches in my cylinder (i believe its because of K&N )

u cannot drive and damage ur chain and sproaket like that dude....
the main thing happened cuz of no lube in the chain and the rains worsened the situation, dont trust these guys there...
the bike is having open chain, you have to see the chains condition by urself buddy....

the whole thing got damaged so early cuz of improper or no lubrication and i beleive it was too loose and u didnt understood the chain is loose cuz there is no chain guard and it was not banging against or on it....

please guys,it's ur bike, atleast look it carefully once a week......

            • First, we have a 2-yr/30k kms warranty.

The brake issue doesn't seem to be a simple air bubble problem. Most probably a failed piston in the master cylinder. Very dangerous, get it fixed asap. If it is an air bubble, it's probably a HUGE bubble to cause so much grief, and they've just filled the fluid from the top without performing ANY bleeding. Regardless, don't accept the 'fix itself in 3-4 days'.

Chain-sprocket, shit happens sometimes. Get the damaged sprocket(s) replaced and chain too if necessary. and maintain it properly in future. tvs recommend a mix of 50% oil and 50% grease because of the o-rings.

As Renny said, check if the injector is silver and if not tell them to change it. it may have a small rubber cap hiding the silver.

tvs warranty does not cover electrical wiring but try and convince them to change the switches. if they refuse, i would suggest opening the switch and trying to repair the pass light switch rather than changing the whole assy.

If you search this thread way back there were a couple posts by Aparajith who had contacted senior tvs officials by email. Try doing the same. You will definitely get a response.

I can completely understand someone wanting to sell the bike after facing so much fron a svc. and it's not like a remote village or something, it's delhi for god's sake. shame on tvs.

That's the mistake lots make, one should never chuck the old airfilter box just for the sake of k&n. If it's fitted directly to the carbs mouth with out the box, the effects are adverse cos the k&N is porous and if the oil is kinda dry then it will allow all the dust particles to enter the carb, but to save that always keep the k&n fixed inside the airfilter box so that there are much less things to worry about and thats what i've done in my 200 and 16000 kms after the K&N installation and still rock steady.

actually the race kits are doin rounds on the net for the carbed but for the FI, you need the new mapped ECU, along with exhaust that'll cost you cool 15000-18000 just for 3PS bump in power and that really does not make sense....

                        What, where...Did i miss something!!

C'mon even a 3PS is a lot especially as the RTR's engine is quite potent and there is comparatively less loss when power is transferred to the rear wheels!!

OVERDRIVE mag had a little column on this about 3-4 months back....
all it'll be boosting is that much power..

and what the manufacture give us is the Ps at the crank and when it gets tranfered to the rear wheel a good 3-4 PS gets lost...
so in real if we'll be adding the performance kits in FI or 180 we'll be gettin 16 and 17.3 PS for the real at the wheel, and it wont be shaving off 2 secs from the sprint to dash to 60....

Yeah, it wont but definitely for a 0-100km/hr dash!!

Let's see how TVS acts up as they still don't know how their own FI unit is behaving as every now and then we are hearing complaints in xBhp itself.

                              • As of today, there are no major or widespread issue wrt the FI unit in the rtr, the only problem was with the old injector and that seems to be solved with the silver injectors.

The only other issue are various minor problems, like forks and steering bearings. However, the main issue remains poor service untill someone escalates the issue to a senior tvs official, and till that issue is taken care of, tvs is going to have a really bad name in the industry, no matter how good the bikes, especially with the superb build quality of the jap manufacturers.
