when does fuel indicator turn on in RTR Fi

hello all,
i had a query about fuel indicators in Fi. when does it switch on. when there is approx 2.5 litres of petrol left in tank or it will turn on only when the tank is dried up. currently in the fuel bars the last line is blinking. and i dunno when to put fuel. knidly suggest. i dont want my tank to b dry and mess up with Fi system.

Start re-filling once the damn thing starts to blink. That itself is an indicator that u have only 2l left. IMHO pls refill once there are only 2 bars left as the damn digital meter is not that accurate.

but my question is why is fuel refill indicators are in first place.. there is no tap.. hence how vil user come to know the when it falls in reserve..

regarding digital indicators.. its piece of sh!t... when u switch on the ignition.. the bars will raise automatically an come down automatically. i dunno whats going on..
while taking bike delivery i had filled for 500rs. and after 460 Kms in odo the last line is blinking.. hence assuming that 2 lts of petrol is left in tank when we calculate it has returned 52kms approx per lt.. thats immpressive though its in run in period and strictly not crossing the speedo more than 45kms.

I think that apache tyres must be more thick !

I think the tyres are thick enough... Keep in mind they the size and dimensions have been chosen after a lot of testing by tvs.. Switchin to a good tyre for the apache is good enough... As i have heard that the stock tyres are not that good...

Yeah, they are too thin. Try getting the FZ's tires and fix it!

Apache RTR Fi ownership experience, first ownership experience for two wheeler. wil not describe about showroom experience as i have already posted it in previous sections.
Pls note: this is totally my point of view. im not aruging with experts .. they might have better points to put forward.
Initial Impression
------------------
After 10 yrs of RX 135 riding experience it was time to rewrite with modern four stroke technology in my books. so here i go guys with my point of view which may partially or completely differ with others experience. i would like to first of all say.. im very happy with my selection. bike looks unique and different from all others. may be due to the fact that Fi's are pretty less ven compared to zma's n pulsars... startinf with colour. very unique,, matt grey with dusky finish.
bike built is good and has some few new technologies which excites young bikers.
Stripes look cool and unique.. lock comes with radium.. very useful in dark.. Engine switch off without turning off the ignition is useful feautre in traffic. split bar handle is good for comfortable handling.
Overall good bike for city conditions. but big no no for highway..
Ownership xperience.

switch on the ignition and blue dial lites up and a self test. humming sound and display is ready to go. very good indeed. and pretty attractive than digital dislpay of other bikes.
press the auto start and there is a hum... shez ready to go.. this bike might attract more crowd bcoz of sound. its too good.. better than FZ in all means. though FZ looks like beast her throat doesnt make ne sound which can exicte the generation who depends on after market filter for only sound.
Gears shifting has not been smooth and neutral fall while shifting from 1st to 2nd. but this may b very specific as one of y fren who owns FZ says the gear shifting is very smooth in apache Fi.
seating posture is good and bike has very good comfort level. happy with all the feauters and handling.
Braking is a plus in this bike. press the lever and there goes BITE.. bike will never disappoint u ven it come to emergency braking. good work TVS. apart from braking those petal disc are attractive and looks cool. back disc is also impressive and i would say better then P220(which i rode as test ride)
Good pick up. no need of frequent chang eof gears. bke is torquey. tvs has worked lot on R&D of this bike before coming to end product.. good n decent job here by TVS.
vibrations.. though its negligible but still there.in neutral when we fire the engine. front fork with disc console vibrating as it use to do in bullet. dunno whether this problem is specific to my bike but looks irritating. back mud guard with number plate vibrates a lot in in neutral and minimises after 2nd gear. no complains as most of pulsars have same chaterstics except Zma.
there are lot of vibration in front indicators. but can be bypassed..

Cons
----
Pathetic tyres i would say. though there is lot of R&D but still bike lacks road grip specially in wet conditions. TVS has to buck up soon with tie up with other brands which has better road grip. i tried to take a turn in 40km speed and there was slight jolt.. controlling of bike was never been a problem but if it behaves this way in 40 km think when we are in 70 to 80.. neways have listed my safety while riding on bike and vil not try nething crazy which is harmful for me or she.
Digital console with fuel indicators.. i would say wats the point ading this stuff which cant even give correct approx figures.switch on the ignition and after self test fuel bars rise to there wish. depends upon the mood i would say. if bike in good mood bar will raise no matter fuels in there or not. suddenly it lowers by itself. dunno user has to keep on margin or target of KMs n then go n refill dont wait for bike to give u warning .. that light never lit up till now.. and the last bar is blinking already.
the doubt i have is y the warning light in RPM meter in the first place. how will user come to know about the fuel left how to know bike is come in reserve.
For the person like me who commutes in NICE road bangalore up and down we dont find any petrol bunk. all of sudden bike stops and im in no mans land. on top of it i might risk screwing up the complete FI system. holy crap i would say.
what i would have prefered is all feautes without Fi. have carb and a knob. and making life simple of the fellow biker for daily commutation.
fuel consumption has been pretty decent. though its in running period. 500 rs approx 11 lts of petrol it has returned 52 kms per lt with 2 lts still left( i suppose though i cant guaranty)..

top speed. as of now i would 52 kms was top speed as its still in running period and i cant push to its xtremes.. another 1000 kms and will give long term ownership report.
last point would be when i do cold start. start it and keep it in neutral for one minute. still the bike switches itself off in second or third gear when we pull clutch to change gears, this happens till i travel upto 4 or 5 KMs. If this is specific to my bike then vil b more happy to point out. if its one of the characters of bike then im very disappointed.
Humming sound from meter panel area when bike is in neutral is very annoying. i personally dint like that sound though its negligible while riding but once i enter basement of the office to park. thats pretty loud as if coolants getting circulated in cars. but can ignore it keeping in mind the features bundled in this two wheeler for 75k ( on road price in bangy.

Overall
----------
Very good bike with feautre that attracts the present generation. would always love to ride this bike when given a choice.
will suggest other frenz n relatives to buy the bike. pretty much will suggest to do so.
they have to work on road grip. its very imp for indian roads.. if in speed of 60 and 70 im comfortable ,, but above that i dont have hope tat bike will not let me down. may b my thinking. others in better postion to put more light on this.

i love my Fi and very proud to own this bike.
there are cons in this bike, again there are lots of cons in other product also. nothin can b perfect. only point would be to improve from present mistakes. dont repeat it again attitude. im very happy with my selection.

All i can say is my right hand is itching everyday to give the throttle to its potential and gilde through. but cautiously waiting for running period to complete.

Hi all,

I was out of city for last 3 days ( away from my RTRFI). Went thru all those posts which I missed. The meaning of "cohesive" in my last post was to raise voice loud enuf that TVS authorities will have to react. I don't feel there are enuf FI owners in Delhi (who have joined XBHP and/or visit this thread). I'm in contact with SarabFI only, and also, TVS personnel here (almost always) give such lame excuses that anybody can get disappointed. Moreover, the SVC where I usually go has lost too many skilled mechanics, which leaves my (and other FI owners') bike ion the mercy of roadside skill-levelled mechanics. I was so much disappointed by my last visit there as I almost felt that they (SVC men) are destroying my bike.
Its been more than 20 days that I forced SVC's manager to raise order of throttle cable and front fork seal for my bike, but still they haven't confirmed me when they'll get these required components (I mean, how can thes fast wearing parts be out of stock for more than 3 months). The Delhi TVS engineer also doesn't give response (even sometimes switches Off his mobile) .

The only boundation I face is that only this VERY SVC has got the Diagnostic tool and interfacing software due to which I have no option but to seek mercy from them.
The SVC station is "SK TVS", Mayapuri Industrial area, New Delhi.

Moreover I'm agreed to both Renny and Julianpaul for their valid observations.
Today, I tried to check my lap time after a run of 7 Km at around 8:30 in morning. Its depressingly 5.2 sec, whereas in winters, I had touched 4.1 sec. I really feel, SVC guys have screwed up my bike's performance in addition to powerdrop due to overheating of engine.
HELP ME !!!!

Unfortunately this is not unique to ur bike but happening with me and a couple of others as well. I noticed this trend in the past couple of days that while pressing the clutch the RPM indicator rapidly drops to below 1250 (my idle rpm is 1250) and as soon as it comes near 1000 it switches off. Normally happens when braking for traffic lights. And when it happens it does so continuously for about 10 mins every time i slow down and accelerate again. To test it i took up the bike to around 50kmph on a flyover and then pressed the clutch, kept it pressed for around 2-3 seconds, and the engine switched off as soon as RPM touched 1000 though the speed was still 30+. I still cant figure out the reason for it though coz in normal circumstances the RPM stays above 1250 even when i am standstill. One trait i noticed what tht it happens mostly when i am in City traffic where a lot of clutch and brake needs to be used. planning to take it to the SVC this weekend (my 1st service was last weekend). Will keep u updated with what the guy says.

But as u correctly put that despite these and some minor issues i am extremely happy to buy this bike - specially since it is the first bike tht i personally bought (used to drive my father's vespa and then my brother's thunderbird earlier). Amazing handling, great acceleration, and the best part is, it is never satisfied when u r driving it in low RPMs...its as if it is always egging you on to let go . Thats the beauty of it coz its not only you driving/riding the bike...its both of you together out on a drive. the bike enjoys as much as you do!!

we dont have the choice but we have to go to the TVS serv station as this FI system is beyond the repairing possibilities of roadside mechs.....

but still, i was and i'm not in favour of the mechs at the SERV station from my FIERO times.....

i would say fill it whn u see 3 bars...
tht thing is not at all accurate...

It's this kind of post that pisses me off. Not at the poster, at TVS. Seems the south guys have had better success at escalating the issue and getting a favourable response. Still, I would recommend writing to the higher-ups aparajith wrote to and got his problems solved. I had made a post a few pages ago with the links.

About the FI, the service centre may have the diagnostic cable and the software but how often do you need to fix the FI itself. If you're getting nowhere with the service center, then i would suggest getting the bike fixed outside. Remember, end of the day it's your bike, you paid for it, and neither TVS nor the service center are responsible for it. It's more important to have a proper running bike than to worry about warranty and authorised svc when they're doing jack-shit in the first place. If you can get the throttle-cable and fork oil-seals at some other parts shop (for eg. i get RTR parts easier at babloo motors in vashi easier than the tvs svc) just buy it from there and get it fixed by a mechanic who you know can do a decent job with regular bike stuff. everything is not FI related.

FI (rtr?) Fuel Gauge and Reserve knob

First, i've observed that the fuel indicator holds whatever value the float was at when you first turn the key on. In other words, if the bike was on the side-stand when you switched on, it will show a higher reading because with the tank leaned to the left, the float is at a higher position than it actually would be when level. This higher reading would stay for quite a while till the gauge starts to register the new float value.

How to avoid this ? First get the bike off the side-stand, THEN turn the key to ON. Pain in the arse, but simple.

About the reserve knob. People asking about that should take the time to stop and think first. What's the worst thing that could happen in the FI system? A dry or no-fuel condition. What happens in the time between when the fuel level drops below the reserve point, to when you actually turn the knob from on to reserve? A dry or no-fuel condition.

Guys, being an owner of both the RTR-Fi and the R15, I wud say that most of ur problems are present with Yamaha too. In fact its much worse. Need proof, just go thru my posts on the R15 thread. In the end, I just go the svc centre for warranty sake and service it on my own or thru my local mech.

As Julian said, ur never going to touch the Fi system inside the tank or the sensors. Just get it serviced from any mechanic, guys. And spare parts availability for R15 is even worse. I could not even get an air filter, oil filter, brake pads etc. TVS spare parts availability are much better(atleast here).

The fuel gauge issue is present in the R15, Pulsars as well. So accuracy of digital meters is always a joke.(Ever wondered why doctors swear by the mechanical device to check ur B.P even though a far more advanced multi-functional digital devices are available in the market?)

And if ur having issues with ur local svc, remember that its the local svc thats screwing up TVS's name. If u just know the pains that the guys in the company take to ensure that their products dont have problems, u will be pleasantly surprised. So if u have problems, shoot a mail to higher officals and be rest assured that ur problems(if genuine) will be taken care of. Proof of the things that TVS will do for their customers are me and Satish itself!!!!

Digital speedos have proved to be almost 100% accurate atleast in a pulsar.

Coming to the point, guys just dont worry about the fuel gauge part, no meter is accurate. The Uni's fuel gauge even though it is analog keeps on dancing left and right while u ride it

@Julian, Have you tried contacting TVS Pune (the numbers are there in your RTR ownership booklet) with your experience....
