  • Fuel pump noice issues.....

from the last two days m noticing tht my fuel pump is making more noice than usuall so much tht i can hear it 'buzzing' at 4000RPM.....
    any body exp the same......

one more thing when the bike is cold i.e in morn it pumps the fuel till the self check is complete ie till the needle goes to 12' and comes back but when the engine is hot it only pumps till the needle goes to 12'....(i used the needle thing as the timings as i didnt measured it in secs)

When engine is hot as u say, it means the bike as parked for some time only. some fuel pressure is in thr in pump. so needs less initial pumping (pressure creation).

There is nothing less or high as far as mileage is concerned. When my bro rides the RTR he consistently gets 55+. Once I rode it on the highway+city etc and managed to extract ~35. So its all driving/riding style that matters!

Yea, the RTR is very inconsistent with its mileage figures, keeps fluctuating, i used to get anything from 35-48 ! but now it seems to have turned better and not returning figures below 40 !

so what your saying is that with a very low battery, your bike didn't start at all? because i've tried starting my bike with the battery completely disconnected and it worked. umm, maybe some other wire was connected. think there are a couple of different connections to the battery. will check and update.

if by inside, he meant the gearbox, it could be better to get it opened by tvs instead of the local mech. warranty issues.

you can check by moving the lever up and down. if it moves within the play area and the boss and gear shaft remain still, then the issue is outside. however, if you are able to move the boss when it is still attached to the shaft, and the shaft itself is moving in the play, then it is inside. the gear shaft has a pretty heavy return spring which keeps it 'fixed' in position. maybe thats come loose.

any strange noises that weren't present earlier should be investigated. it could mean something isn't working right. other than the usual high-pitched whine, i've never noticed any noise from my fuel pump. the service manual does say that it could be felt as a mild vibration in the fuel tank area.

as nox said, it doesnt have anything to do with hot or cold, just the longer the bike is parked, the more time it takes the pump to build up pressure in the lines. it's referred to as priming in the manual.

just noticed something else in the manual. the fuel filter is supposed to be replaced every 9 months. but the damn asc didn't do it in the 4th service. i'll have to do it myself soon then. anyone else had it replaced? or is it the same in all ascs?

                  • RTR160 carb version produces 15.2 bhp and RTR FI produces 15.7 bhp
what is this 0.7 bhp difference for ? is it the FI unit or something else ?

i have heard somewhere that carb version and fi version has different exhaust, but i didnt find any difference in exhaust in RTR refresh version and Fi version, both are same(atleast exterior and sound)

how do you check if the fuel filter has be replaced or not?
also, how to check the same for oil filter?

Both filters will start having black deposits and look dirty. Atleast thats the case with the R15(oil filter) and P220(fuel filter)!

                        • Hey guys just got ma bike serviced back(Orange Fi) for third service.I ve been uptill satisfied with the performance but somehow the smoothness has gone. After arguing a lot to SVC guys I was able to convince them to put engine oil diff. from TVS Tru4 , so guys please suggest me some good engine oil with their respective prices so that I could get that in ma next service.
Also I ve clocked 129(speedo indicated) a day before and was thinking is it the max. I could squeeze out of it???
And please someone specify a good method of checkin fuel efficiency rather than full tank to full tank coz it is not possible for me to have full tank always(m an engg. student).
                          Thanx in advance.

could you tell where these filters are located and if they are user replaceable?

                              in case of rtr fi:-
                              1.oil filter.
                              a bit blurred!!!!

                              fuel filter:-

they can be user replaceable if only 1 knows how to disassemble -assemble them back. there is a bit more difficulty in case of fuel filter replacement but if u referred manual it will bcom easy to some extent.!!
