Re: Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi

Forgot to update here, about two weeks back I did drain the engine oil and guess what? Only about 700ml of oil drained out. I'm not sure at what point the bike started drinking oil on the return 650Kms ride from Kumily, but I'm quite shocked that it sustained with only this much oil left in the engine, considering that the last 200 Kms were mostly straight roads of high speed (relatively) riding all the way home. The only difference I felt was a slight increase in the vibrations on the last leg of the journey.

For now, I am not doing any high speed/highway runs on the bike, have filled in fresh 20W40 oil to allow the engine to rev freely and am monitoring the oil level every morning before starting the bike. So far in city commuting does not seem to drink any oil yet, but will top up 100ml every few weeks.

Have ordered the silver bore-piston kit at Bajaj, will maybe change it maybe in a few months.

Sigh! Bore-piston kit number II incoming, the first one lasted 68K kms but the engine had been opened quite a few times in that time. Now for the last 60K kms, the engine has been untouched and still, the bore-piston gave up. Not sure if it was bad fuel quality or Bajaj quality that caused the final downfall.

Out on the road after a really really long time. Did about 1300 Kms last weekend for the xBhp ISG2G at Thekkady.

Recently the clutch plates, clutch bell and load balancer were replaced. The injector Oring had become hard and gotten cut so it was leaking. The Oring was not in stock so a Hyundai i10 Oring was put instead.

I did try the Liqui Moly injector cleaner, but maybe because the injectors were already physically cleaned I did not feel any perceivable different post the injector being cleaned. On the whole the bike ran well, had no issues. Except the next morning after the ride I checked the oil level and was surprised to see it was empty. Guess it's about time for the bore piston kit replacement anyway. The engine has been untouched in the last 60k Kms. Will drain oil to see if really the oil has been consumed. Strangely there was no smoke from the exhaust at all.

If you ask me then the answer would be Null.
As you said it's a snake oil at best. Tried ifftex and other cleaners available in the market. Nothing beats opening up your injectors and passing wd40 to blast away the muck and grime.

CHEERS

Did you previously change the front/rear in the past too? If you haven't now you will surely have that issue, because the wear will be uneven between front and rear sprockets.

I did not know Bajaj was selling only the front sprocket, previously they only sold the sprocket set with the chain.

Will know in a couple of weeks, waiting for my current tank full of petrol to get empty. Once near empty will pour in the injector cleaner with a load of fuel.

On another note, I've ordered this Liquid Moly petrol injector cleaner. Will update my experience after using it for some time.

What front tyres are good these days? Looks like stock is the only option presently. I'm running the 80/100-17 Zapper FQ from the CBR150 for about 3 years now and its time for a change.

Wow, just read the review. Sounds like its a god send. I am not too sure about the sidewall height though. Will see if the showroom will allow a trial fitting of the tyre.

It houses the clutch plates and is what used to transmit power to drive the gears. Wears out over a period of time, mine has been replaced once when the bike was bout 68K kms.

Nope, its a 110/70 tyre right? There is hardly any sidewall height left to cushion the road. Plus the tyre looks like it has formed a very aggressive "V" profile instead of a "U" sharped profile. That tyre is clearly designed for a wider rim.

How'z your experience with it so far?

the diag tool used now (since a yr) is a new one from bosch (green colored). more than the tool, what is important is the bike specific information is loaded on the tool.
earlier they used to use the big grey one, which as you said was also used with the pulsar. these ex-pbk's will definitely have that tool but they do not touch the pulsars normally. also some ex-pbk outlets might have their bajaj specific service centers also.. so try and coordinate among them to get the diag tool and run the tests.
s1d - Thank you for the information. I am out of station for 2 weeks, so after coming back will check with current KTM service centers and see if something can be worked out.

Interesting, my service still uses the old grey one for both KTM and Pulsars.

Bajaj, should sell these old tools to people who want to keep the bike.

Yep, sounds like the starter clutch is disintegrating. Time to get a new one before it totally breaks apart.
