  • Bike engine getting off!

I am new to this biking and I wanted to know if I am only facing this problem or not...Please advise!

My bike is 3 days old and its engine gets off once you stop giving the acceleration suddenly..Is it a normal thing that you might face before the first service or something to worry about?

How do you term this problem technically?

    Waiting for the answers!

    • What is the idle rpm when the engine is hot? It should be 1300. If it low, adjust the rpm screw to set the idle rpm.

I am sorry to say this! I dont know how to measure that...Also where is the rpm screw located?

Can I do it on my own?

In the console, you will find tachometer (the needle which shows the rpms). When the engine is hot, check where is the needle. It should be not be below 1200 rpm. You can adjust the idle rpm if it is low. The screw will be near the carburettor on right side.

          Check manual for clear instructions.

If you cannot manage, better take it to Honda service station. Tell them the problem you are facing.

I was curious to know what mileage can be extracted if gears are shifted @5kRPM??. and what speed do u guys attain @5k RPM in 5thgear,
ques to delhi members- which is the best honda svc in delhi, preferably south delhi
You can achieve above 50 kmpl, provided normal regular traffic (with lesster traffic jams and not bumper-to-bumper). At 5k rpm, the speed in 5th gear is 66-69 kmph.

          • What do you mean by "when the engine is hot"?

Is there a pdf version of the manual available with someone or somewhere?

Engine hot means, after riding the bike for say 10 min or around 5 km. When the engine is cold (in the mornings or when you do not use the bike for prolonged period of time, the engine will be cold), the idle rpm will be around 1k. You need to use choke at this time so that the engine will not die.

I would rather call "When engine is warm" , it means that engine is now in its operating temperature. Till engine reaches operating temperature the thermodynamic efficiency (in other words mileage)will be less, so always ride slow till engine warms up. Usually engine gets to operating temperature within 5 minutes. On cold starts idle should be above 1000 rpm, when engine reaches operating temperature the idle rpm would slightly increase to some 1300 or so. As Ravi mentioned its always a good practice to use choke when engine is cold.

Idling may be a problem in new bikes as the engine is not settled. Usually its set to be around 1500 when engine is warm.

                • Rode the Dazzler today and IMO it IS an improvement over the Unicorn, the braking feedback was good than most Motorcycles and the engine was smooth till 8K,(couldn't exceed due to traffic),
                  I am impressed

                  • Hey there dazzler gang!
I was just wonering, is it just me or has anyone else faced the problem of mud and dirt getting accumulated at the mono-shock. And as this is monsoon, i get an awful lot of complains from my pillion riders about how their trousers are ruined by the dirt. I guess, its coz of the total lack of a mud guard down there. Any one else HATE the DAZZLER for this?? Any solutions outlined???

The average indian mind loves a honda, and they luv it even more when there is a "HERO" infront of it!!

Yes, I was facing the same problem. Due to mud accumulation, the mono-shock got rusted and the SOFT-NORMAL-HARD adjustment was stuck. I took it service center and they solved the problem in 10 minutes. After that I always clean the mono-shock after a ride in rain.

Now i start off with the first thing we will take notice of a bike. Its looks.

When I saw this bike for the first time in flesh, it was good. Yes, it impressed me. But did not throw me of my feet. Only when i got closer, I felt its presence. It amazed me by its appearance. The floating cowls not only give the bike a sporty and muscular look, but also defines the character of the bike. It slides down neatly from the gas tank and ends sharp. Very much like a (fairy tale) Unicorn standing with its wings folded.

The next thing i liked about his bike is is wider rear tyre. Not that other bikes don't have this, but it was well exposed in this bike. Thanks to absence of dual suspensions and raised seats. There is so much gap between the rear fender and the tyre. Also the rear discs contribute a bit to this.

The bike features a semi-digital console. Although the first look would give it an impression of a last-minute job, a detailed look would say otherwise. This console is one of the brilliant thing Honda engineers have added to this bike. One must ride this bike at night, to see the console lit up and clearly gives the rider a superbike like feel.

The head lamp somewhat resembles the Yamaha FZ. Its Short, small and cute. The absence of a wind screen adds to the looks of the bike. From the side, the lightning bolt shape fairing on the headlamp on both the sides look ok. But instead of a roundish type, the headlamp would have looked cool if it had employed a flat type one like in the FZ.

The tail lamp looks somewhat stunning( as per Honda) from the sides, but very much boring when seen from the rear. LED set up?
the rear fender adds to the sporty character of the bike and gels well.

Also to mention is the presence of semi naked chain case which looks good as well. Unlike other bikes, there is an indicator which gives the owner, good information regarding the tension of the chain, whether loose or OK. It is an O-Ring type chain and requires less maintenance. Lubricating it every 500kms is more than enough to preserve it. Rear foot pegs are soft, comfy, fold able and are bolted to a sharp, curvy recess.

The bike itself looks better, viewed with a person sitting on it. And while on the saddle the gas tank does look small, but at the same time beefy with the help of the side cowls.

Dual tone seats does distinguish the bike from others and looks decent. The muffler gets a complete makeover and its now big and bad. gets a silver chrome as a cosmetic addition.
Overall, the bike looks good, sporty, muscular to an extent with all matte-black finishes and also definitely dazzles especially in the golden shade under the sun.

The only thing which I hate about this bike is its crappy name. Dazzler. You kidding me? Will definitely remind girls of eyetex dazzler nailpolishes. Wonder what is running in Honda engineers's mind. When they name their trade mark brands like fireblade, blackbird etc, they name indian versions like Unicorn, Shine, Twister and on top of all that 'DAZZLER'. Only exception being the stunner.

OK. Next I will discuss about the ergonomics of the bike.

Unlike other competitors and like its predecessor, this bike sports a commuterish sitting position.i.e., straight and sweet. Well although a rear set foot pegs induce a sporty position and makes the ride more enjoyable, it also creates a lot of load in the arms of the rider and hence stresses a lot. definitely not what someone would want at the end of a long, tiring, bad day at the office. That is why honda has never attempted this in any of their bikes. Call it a blessing in disguise or whatever, it makes the ride more enjoyable and aesthetics of this bike are such that you will tend to ride it to clear your mind of a really bad day. The seating position is aided by a wide, sufficient hard saddle which encases your bum quite well. All instrument switches are within reach easily and the handle bar grip also feels comfy.
the lcd display is always lit with a blue backlight unlike other bikes which turn on only when the lights come ON. This helps the rider get information without straining his eyes when he passes through an underpass or under a over bridge during murky weather or so. Vibrations are very very minimal, and aids in long rides to stay smooth without getting your hands numb. Tubeless tires are a welcome addition here. The mirrors are good and they do their job. One interesting thing is the bike's exhaust note. At till 3000 rpm, the bike sounds like any other unicorn. But above that, well it has a great grunt . Really gives a great feel while riding it hard and bad.

Now the things which did not impress me were the absence of an engine kill switch and full DC set up. Messing up with the ignition key everytime standing in traffic is not cool. The most annoying thing about this bike are its handle bar weights. Guys don't be fooled. Those are nothing but fake hollow plastic molds. Seriously. I pulled out one and was like

Now the Handling part of it.

The bike being 8 kgs lesser than its predecessor, feels very light and flicking in traffic is just a breeze. The handle bar feels very light than the unicorn and aids in comfortable piercing through traffic gaps. Wider rear tire along with front and rear disc brakes add up to confident braking. Rear discs are a boon to experienced riders and really helps. Its low seat height enables rider to ride it effortlessly without much stress.Cornering is just a breeze and even newbiees would definitely feel comfortable doing it. The best part of the bike is its suspension. The fact that impressed me the most is that even when cornering at extreme angles, at high speeds, the sussy took up the potholes of the road with ease and one does not have to panic or slow down during such circumstances.

Now comes the real test. Performance.

This bike is powered by a 150 cc mill, which is same as that of the old Unicorn, but churns out an impressive 14bhp of power.i.e., 0.7 bhp over that of the Unicorn which churns out 13.3 bhp of peak power. This increased power and reduced of gives this bike very impressive power to weight ratio and it really shows on the road. The pick up is amazing where, this bike leaps ahead, unlike the unicorn which pulls forward. Though I don't have valid 0-60 and 0-100 specs, I have read so many comparos which has put forward that dazzler is quicker than the FZ and just slower than the RTR. The good thing about this bike is its top end, where even after 90+ speeds, the bike accelerates quick and never gives an impression of wearing out. Braking is absolutely top notch and the rider stays confident always, which is a good thing. At continuous riding at 90+ for over two hours, the bike still behaved fresh and never gave an impression of tiredness. Engine was all the way smoother and crunchier. The bike delivers a mileage of 58 under soft riding i.e., at or under 60. and a whopping figure of 48 even under very insane riding i.e., 90+. This is exactly the area where this bike out scores every other bike in its class. Road grip is again excellent.Courtesy wider rear tire and zappers.

Overall verdict is that Honda has definitely improved its mindset and unicorn to woo customers but have not done it right in some areas which still needs attention. This is a best buy for the ones who want performance, looks, fuel efficiency altogether in a single product, as there is no bike in the market today which can provide all these together. so guys hope you liked my post and found it informative. Suggestions are welcome along with criticism.

                            Enjoy the Quality.

Did you install HID? I'm seriously planning about it. But stock electrical need to be altered to increase charging rate and hence warranty will be gone. So in dilemma what to do
