  • Lorenzo "Casey was faster than us in the end and my physical condition wasn't perfect"
Lorenzo "I'm lucky to be 2nd after the crash yesterday morning"
So Lorenzo cashing his goof up as a factor in the result. Can be true, he was walking in paddock so stiff. But anybody saying Stoner doesn't have the racecraft is slammed hard . His strategy was "Stalk and Go"

    Only two aliens remain now

Hope Rossi doesn't make it a habit of being in the mid-pack. Rossi jokes he won't win a race this season unless it snows
Rossi's bike was the fastest in terms of speed:

if we analyze this data, we will see that these figures are misleading, because, the average speed shown in this sheet is not the average speed of race, but it is actually an average speed of the top five speeds in the chart.

what we do conclude from this article is that ducati is in no way slower than other bikes in terms of top speed, but it is the corners, which is the problem. this is quite obvious, everyone knows it.

what is disturbing is that rossi was 30 secs slower than race winner, and in fact only 1 sec faster than hayden (even after doing all the work with gp11.1) while hayden is proving that he can obtain similar performance and timings with his gp11.

so gp11.1 has nothing much to offer actually.

      • I dont think Lorenzo goofed up anything. I also dont think he faced tires issues. He knows very well to how to race. Once Casey passed him he didnt tried to fight back, he was definitely not fit.
Just check his timings after lap 26. Casey passed him after this lap.

Same case with Pedrosa also. Check his timings after lap 18.

        From Motomatters:

Pedrosa hung on Lorenzo's tail for the first half of the race, looking for a way past but never finding one. At the halfway mark, Pedrosa's strength started to wane, his fitness fading just as Stoner's bike started to come good. The Australian and his crew had found something in the morning warmup which worked as the fuel load started to come down, so Stoner's struggles to get the bike turned in the early laps disappeared as the race went on.
Stoner fired out of Turn 11, passing Lorenzo around the outside of Turn 1, the fastest and scariest part of the track. Turning into the Andretti Hairpin, Stoner closed the door, leaving Lorenzo with no option but to concede defeat.

Holding Stoner off had taken its toll of Lorenzo's battered body. Once he saw Stoner come past, Lorenzo focused on coming home in one piece and limiting the damage to his championship. Stoner went on to pull a huge gap, maintaining his punishing pace until the gap had grown to over 3 seconds, then backing off slightly to secure a comfortable win.
If both of them had been in good condition we would have seen a close finish with anyone of them coming on top.
But still, not taking anything away from Stoner, he rode brilliantly.

And if you guys remember LS'08 and LS'10.
LS'08 - Stoner passed Rossi on turn but ran wide, but very next lap he was able to do that again.
LS'10 - Rossi passed Dovi on final corner but coming into straight, Dovi took the inside line and went ahead but Rossi passed him on the turn 1 and closing the door for turn 2.

Yup, him having the highside is the "goof up" I was referring to.
Lorenzo not down shifting for the corner and in turn traction control not kicking in.

Missed this incident. But everywhere it has been said that Rossi was in a way apologetic (probably not letting him take a better position in his home country race) and nicky wasn't happy being second best Ducati in the race. He was joking with Rossi that it is his turn in Indy race
More serious gossip is about the team orders on Nicky, asked not to pass Rossi in the race, but I feel this is just somebody's mischievous mind

                      • Everyone is talking about it because looking at the session prior to the race that fast bike wasn't supposed to overtake the slower bike in the race

The pass on Lorenzo was even better, but Stoner had some help from the reigning World Champion. Lorenzo was forced to short shift coming out of Turn 11 and onto the front straight, to counter a little too much wheelie, and Stoner found some extra drive to take him past. The Australian could only do so at the fastest, scariest part of the track, though: outside on the rumblestrip as they howled around the 260 km/h Turn 1. That was the pass that most impressed him, Valentino Rossi said. "Very close, high speed. Something you have to be brave to do. This is motorcycle racing," the Italian added.

But during the race it became evident tht faster bike will overtake sooner or later.

                            • That's the talking point from "not supposed to overtake" (due to the difficulties the rider was facing all weekend) to "becoming evident that it will overtake sooner or later" (due to team finding out the solution on the race morning)

Stoner pulled the same move in LS08, as he did with Jorge this Sunday, with Rossi too but was overshadowed by the race result itself.
