Irrespective of who wins the championship, this is already an epic story. Both riders would completely deserve to be called champions.

However, if Lorenzo wins, there is every chance that a lot of people will cringe over this championship like they do over Hayden's 2006 championship (although, of course for a different reason... PI).

With everybody expecting the rookie to 'crack' under pressure, i wonder if the opposite will happen. Lorenzo in his bid to win the race pushes too hard and bins it.

Possible. Mid season, the rookie didn't make a mistake, it was the two seasoned veterans who crashed out and injured themselves. Thus missing races and losing points!

MM even if rides his normal pace without pushing too hard.. Will end up on podium...

And if rossi can try to help jlo, even pedrosa can get orders to help MM.. Isn't it

We will get a much clearer picture after QP..

Lorenzo has raised his game to compete with MM. In the last couple of races Lorenzo has been stellar.

So Marc has to finish in top 4. Which is so obvious unless he crashes. Now irrespective of who wins Marc currently has only 3 other rider's that "may" trouble him - Jorge, Rossi and Dani. So lack of a 4th guy in the equation is good enough for Marc to win. But what about the Nuke (#19) He's caused many crashes in the past. Would he want to be in the headlines of Monday's news paper?

If Marquez wins, there will be people who will cringe and sulk and talk about how Lorenzo's collarbone injury allowed Marquez to win the championship..blah blah and blah. Sore losers in life always look at ways of disrespecting hard earned fruits of glory

Let's look at it this way. Mathematically, the chances of Lorenzo winning the championship were extremely bleak. Without anything to loose, Lorenzo is doing the only thing that he can do at this moment...take risks and push. Even if he falls or in the worst circumstances, unable to continue in this season, it does not make any difference as the chances are bleak.
For people who have ever raced in any class (forget the premier class in world), they would know the importance of winning a championship in the first attempt. For Marquez, it is not just a dream come true but a bold statement that he is here to rule in this class (age is on his side as also the best team with the best machine on the grid). All he has to do to seal this is ride sensibly. He threw away a brilliant opportunity to come to Valencia as a Champion (with his stupid Philip Island strategy). He will, in all probability take it easy and coast home behind Lorenzo.

Let's just say that both have incentives in doing what they are doing..Lorenzo in taking risks and pushing hard...Marquez in taking it slow and sealing a Championship. Either ways, both have demonstrated riding skills and class which takes them into alien territory. We as fans are lucky to see such a stellar battle as opposed to one sided championships that have been in progress for so many years now.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Well, pretty much no championship is incident free. Accidents/mishaps are down to riders' on-track actions. MM's crash at Jerez, JL's at Assen are things that happen in motorsports. What happened with Marquez was not an on-track incident but something that was all a product of off-the-track non-sense, which is what gives that argument some legitimacy. That's one of the big reasons I want MM to win the championship. He has been the fastest, most consistent rider throughout the year. The 2013 championship rightfully belongs to him.

                      i'd say since silverstone.

                      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

it always goes both ways in racing...there has never been a year in which the title winner and the runner up both havent benefitted to an extent from each others' misfortunes...and misfortunes, small or big, always happen, particularly since what these dudes do is at or near the limit of everything..

MM has benefitted a lot this year from lorenzo's collarbone injury times and from being set up in stoner's team with his settings on a bike which is arguably the best on the grid this year and from being fortunate enough to have never been injured enough (to not race or not be able to perform in a race) in so many of his crashes...but so has lorenzo benefitted bigtime from MM and his team's PI brain-fade (and also from MM's crash at mugello, but that was a pure racing mistake, so not really considering it as a fortune/misfortune factor) and also perhaps from him being more experienced in motogp than MM...

it's almost always primarily the riders' riding that matters the most and brings them where they are...if any of them had slacked off somewhere in the season, they wouldn't have benefitted as much from their rivals' misfortunes as they actually have...

yes @monk, i am also thinking lorenzo might also make a mistake and bin it (hope not)...everyone's imagining marquez will make a mistake and bin it, but the contrary can also equally probably happen..

i think it's pretty much sure MM will win the title (top 4 is pretty easy (in relative terms) for a factory honda or yamaha rider), so i am mainly hoping for a massive battle (another last lap tense thriller) between 99 and 93 for the lead or whatever else position..that will be an appropriate end to a great season.

Nicky Hayden ‘can’t wait’ for Honda return:

                        says :
"I can't wait to get on the bike and to see what my feeling is like. It will be good just to feel a different bike.I've had a lot of problems and you start to question if it's you or the bike. I know it won't be easy but I'm looking forward to it. I'll still be pushing at the last race, even though I got the flick and didn't get the new bike that I was supposed to. It was tough but I’m proud of what I've done and my team."

Honda’s new production bike will be unveiled in Valencia later on today. It's called the RCV1000R

But the same could also be said of Pedrosa, sadly he hasn't risen to the occasion. At the beginning of the season Pedrosa was thought to be a strong contender for the championship this year. Too bad, now it looks like he may never get a chance at it again.

Valentino Rossi to split from crew chief Jerry Burgess

Says:"I think that next year Jeremy will not be my chief mechanic," said Rossi. "It was a very difficult decision for me because I have a great history with Jeremy. He is not just my chief mechanic, he is like a part of the family. My 'father' for racing.

"But I decide for next year I need to change something to try to find new motivation and a new boost - to improve my level, my speed. I think that this is our last race together with Jerry, yes."

This year battle for championship is nothing but script of a money-maker Hollywood flick (Maybe 10 years from now when MM retires)

                                In my opinion,

After watching the crash & race thee way Lorenzo performed in Assen I didn't care for championship points for me he became the champion that day itself..

Marc the upgraded Rossi V2 (As per Doctor himself) is nothing like Rossi he has his own style and with age + Repsol Honda its not a easy for any other rider to take away championship from him as you take away a candy from kid.. However he lacks the persona, flair & the X factor which riders like Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner bring on the track

Call me Rossist but yes he is & always will be no.1 rider for me... This year he was out to prove the world that he still has fight left in him and he has proved that point to some extent for sure..

Dani the biggest disappointment for me .. He is the lightest rider of all with the fastest bike on grid along with year's of experience still he doesn't show any signs of battle mode... ye he had his share of crash etc but still

This year one thing was significantly seen and commented by most of the fans that Repsol Honda's are too fast for M1.. lets hope next season things change not to mention one of my fav rider from Moto2 joining big boys for next season..
