  • Re: MotoGP 2013 Season - Updates

from the rumours, it seemed burgess decided to retire for his own reasons (been known for years that he has wanted to be with his family/wife who has been ill etc)..but from what rossi said in the press conference, it seems it was primarily his decision to break up with burgess.

Been reading tweets concerning the split ever since the Italian media made it public. But, it was hard to speculate then.

A Polish journalist, Michal Fialkowski said that JB told him that he wanted to continue as long as VR is racing for Yamaha at Saxonring. And the latest insight by Emmett explains the situation quite well - Valentino Rossi Splits With Jeremy Burgess, Seeks New Crew Chief | MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks.

What the article doesn't clearly say is that Yamaha did force VR to make the decision because his contract expires in 2014 and to renew, he needs to be in the top 3 consistently. No one likes or cares for a 4th placed rider. Tough decision.

I 'd have liked it had VR allowed JB himself to do the presser and just fake it. He deserved to exit the circus in a much better and respectful manner. Harsh and cruel world. Mr. Rossi, that wasn't good on your part.

I just hope that Alex Briggs stays there wrenching the #46 bike.

Good bye, JB! One of the greatest ever to have graced the sport, certainly.

      BTW, can anyone trust VR?!

Sad news about JB... But atleast it is not as bad as ... Hayden' exit.

This is a competitive sports and if the team is not winning...somebody has to go.... Now, who goes .. Depends on, who is incharge.

That's the bitter truth. Yamaha couldn't match the Hondas riders with the M1 alone. They need a faster Rossi to be able to stick with the top 3, for them to have a closer shot at the title. Speaking of closer I don't think Jorge has been anything short of being close to the honda riders. I fact many times he has proven his pace. Next year if Rossi and yamaha don't perform along with Rossi yamaha just might loose Jorge as well.

Yeah I see him get too friendly with the Repsol Honda Team after every race

As you said, this could have been handled so much differently. I can feel JB's pain. I would have rather preferred Rossi to hang up just for the sake of JB.

a bit cold on rossi's part indeed...i guess i understand he feels he has to make some big change in his racing life as his last step/hope to go as fast as the top 3, but still...he's running out of reasons why he is not so fast anymore and so i guess he feels his 15 yrs old crew chief's lack of current passion or drive or lack of enthusiasm for modern motogp or whatever can be another reason..

could have been handled differently...he should have at least arranged for JB to declare it to the press, or them both declaring together...not a bigtime rossi fan myself and even i can feel this is quite weird/sudden/unbelievable and done with sour taste left in people's (and burgess') minds...
