  • Re: MotoGP 2013 Season - Updates

so finally, 93 the youngest ever motogp champion and the first ever rookie champion in 35 years... :-)

but what an awesome first 5-6 laps in today's race..man that lorenzo dude..rider of this season imo, on account of the last 5-6 races if not the earlier ones..

also i meant MM is not really VR 2.0 not just because he seems "better", but because he is also very different from VR in several ways...instead of VR 2.0, so far it's rather just MM 1.0 if you know what i mean...anyway this tag doesnt matter..it's either 99 or 93 from now on in the subsequent seasons.

in any case, lorenzo has been phenomenal particularly in the last 5-6 races, in everything including brutal and aggressive but clean-enough dog fights...if not for those 5-6 races i was all decided to consider 93 the best rider of this season, but now i will give that credit to lorenzo instead...determination and never giving up is his second name, and he has an awesome overtaking capability and race craft when needed, something which the whole world doubted about him so far...i am no longer going to hold him second to valentino in battling capabilities, he is now on par with VR, if not higher, after what he has shown of his battling talents and skills in the last few races.. :-)

yes i agree, i should have included a "so far" phrase in there that i thought i did :-)

but MM is a new thing quite different from VR anyway, imo..so it's more like MM 1.0 than VR 2.0...but there's also a new JL 2.0 going on lately.

I'm so much in agreement with this thought. His genius to control the race from the front is so impressive. It's like he was the director of the show, trying to direct everybody what to do. But alas, there was no one to match his expected potential. He would have expected at least one more Yamaha in the podium fight, but Rossi failed to deliver.
I honestly didn't want him to take the title, but for me he is the number one rider on the grid at the moment. Speed never mattered to me, that's why Stoner was never the best racer in my mind(though he was the fastest ) But hats off to Jorge for proving is metal time and time again. I can just imagine what would he have done if he didn't break that collar bone, or broke it only once this season.

yes it might look to be so but pretty sure it was not so deliberate...i mean both of them were going hands over heels and it was just a little racing incident type of a thing...they were really close to each other and DP braked a bit too late or something right infront of lorenzo and lorenzo thus ended up touching him in a quite unavoidable way, all this time marquez was right behind them...it was aggressive, sure, but probably not desperate or deliberate...even lorenzo went very wide when that happened (allowing MM to go through), which he had to know would happen if he even tried it deliberately...DP was trying hard to beat JL actually and JL was outsmarting him every time...they actually touched/grazed each other like 3-4 times (as it looked), but one time it was enough to run them both wide...

true story mate...the first part of your statement (:P) as well the second part...

after jerez 2013, if you guys remember, lorenzo once said it seemed like he needs to go back to his 250 GP days (and man didnt i just love his 250 days, yes he appeared too damn arrogant and all that but he was awesome back then as far his aggressive battling skills were concerned..even dani was brutal back then, but in premier class GP dani was not really been the same as the other aliens when faced with hard races/circumstances), and indeed he has done that this season whenever he needed to be as much as he and his bike could short of punting anyone off...like he says, he is riding the best of his career ever at the moment...massive controlling and running-off/leading from the start abilities when needed (as always) as well as massive overtaking capabilities (something he was not credited enough plus he didnt really need to do it often enough for people to see that about him regularly)...in view of today's first 5-6 laps, i wonder if anyone at all, including MM and pre-2011-VR, could have managed to keep up with lorenzo and beat him had they been the ones battling with him instead of DP :O i might sound like a big blind lorenzo fan at this moment (i assure you i am not), but thats what i feel and was thinking at the time...because not once or twice or thrice or even fourth times, he pretty much owned it like 10 times or so in so many close calls and really close overtakes, granted a couple of touches but one of them ran him wide as well and yet he came back to the front within half a lap...

also, i forgot to say earlier, marc was very mature today...he didnt put himself in trouble's way in the second half and peacefully let dani by and rode a moderately paced race later on with seemingly a sole focus on not screwing up and crashing but just finishing the race properly...maybe not with lorenzo, but as per what his race pace was, he could have very likely had a dogfight with dani if he really wanted to stick to 2nd place (dani was gradually closing in on him), but that would have meant risking the whole damn championship of his on the line, and of course that wasnt worth it, for once...tried to run for the win, then tried to stick or battle with lorenzo, but realised it was too risky to do that, so then just cooled off and eased to the championship...very cool headed when it really was what was required of him...

99 vs 93 is the new phenomenon/rivalry two most awesome (with most contrasting styles on contrasting kind of bikes) racers going all out...i just hope no serious injuries to any of them and the yamaha M1 somewhat better in late braking stability next season..2014 seems to be going to be even more awesome than this season if this shit continues... 2013 was awesome enough.

as for VR, ever since this split of him with burgess and the way it came out and the way they talked about it and explained in the press, i cant help but feel he is going to retire after 2014 (unless he improves drastically, which unfortunately doesnt seem likely by a far stretch)..but that's ok, of course..makes room for one of the younger and newer riders to have a shot at the factory M1.

DP probably should also call it a day after 2014...

If I had to predict and put my money on it, I'd say the Honda will have an even bigger advantage next year with the 20 liters fuel restriction and Marc Marquez having one full season under his belt. Only time will tell.

PS : Someone needs to start a 2014 season thread. It starts with testing today at Valencia
            Bajaj Pulsar 150 : 2004-2005
            Honda Dio : 2005-2012
            KTM 200 Duke : 2012-
            Aprilia RSV4 APRC ABS : 2014-

I completely agree, Yamaha either have to improve or think on hiring Marc for 2015, which seems to be a far off posibility.

working on the thread as I post this (Hopefully no one else is)

As a MotoGP lover, I enjoyed the season finale. However, the brutal moves were summed up pretty nicely by Livo Suppo when asked about Jorge's moves on Dani. He said "this is racing and we have nothing (to say) as long as they (Yamaha) do not complain when it is reverse".

Lorenzo is also a master of knowing when to take risks and when to preserve for championship. For example last year, 2012, the second half of the season, out of 9 races, he rode conservatively to 7 second places, one win (san marino) and one retirement (valencia) to secure the championship. Comparing that with Dani, he won 6 of those races, retired in 2 and finished 3rd once. In short Dani did what Jorge tried to do this time (as he had nothing to lose last year).

Experience has made him a complete racer with speed, race craft and tactics. Superb display of nerves of steel and some really good riding. But, as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, he had nothing to lose and could unleash 100% potential on both fronts, bike and riding. A major pawn who went unnoticed yesterday was Bautista who isolated MM from the early charge of Rossi and the Yamaha brigade.

MM is the new kid on the block and Champion in the premier class now. He displayed the same awareness in riding conservatively, avoiding any chance of a mistake.

Yamaha has to catch up and I'm sure they will try. Ducati hopefully with the change of top management and Luigi Dall'lgna will try to be better than this year. The new customer RCVs and leased M1 engines should make a very interesting 2014 championship. Watch out for Nicky Hayden...back on comfortable turf after a dull span at Ducati should be the person to watch. Highly under-rated but is a damn good racer.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

What an end to an amazing season. It's only going to get better next year and in 2015 too with this inevitable slowly happening:
Young riders pick a destination and go, Old riders pick a direction and go !

Answer 1 - Rossi said he is in no hurry to get rid of JB so he'll be with him during the tests. No announcement on new Chief Mechanic.
Answer 2 - JLo hasn't stated anything on his own. But Yamaha are keen to retain him and Honda have also shown interest in the double Champion. If Yamaha fails to give a competitive bike for JLo next year, they can sign off a few years titles along with Jorge to Honda.
Answer 3 - Hayden will test the Honda RCV1000R (the production racer) today at Valencia. Testing starts in 3hrs (approx) from now, live updates on MotoGP.com. Cal will be testing the Ducati as well.

@R-series: Know that Vinales has huge potential. 15 podiums this season.

Still can't believe that the top 3 scored an incredible 936 out of 1098 available for podiums. And all 3 over 300 points.
