  • Re: MotoGP 2013 Season - Updates

Superb race after a long long time... Rossi is far from finished. All through the race i was praying -"no mistakes rossi, this is your golden oppurtunity".

such is the importance of qualifying high above.

Today rossi rode somewhat like lorenzo...get into lead early and then lead the race all through making not even a single mistake in a fluidic fashion.

    Lorenzo showed amazing will power.

MM & CC rode brilliantly. What happened to pedrosa..??

    Its party time guys...

LOL, you speak as if Rossi hasn't beaten Jorge in a straight fight. So going by the same logic should I assume that all of Jorge's victories over the past two seasons when Rossi was at Ducati also hollow?

Let us not get into arguments, and Rossi the LEGEND does not need your seal of approval that it was a well earned victory. The victory would have been sweeter if Jorge was fully fit, we will know that in the coming races. Hats off to Jorge for not the 5th position, but for coming back to the track and the racing spirit. I never liked him previously but have started respecting him off late.

Sorry! I had to respond to this.

I think this victory was necessary, to up his spirit.
Hopefully we see lot more of it through the season.

Like 2010, today's race leaves lot of questions unanswered and open to opinions.
But I am happy that there's this whole season left for the answer.......
(Unless, Yamaha have lot of spares to provide to Rossi, like the clutch, and Subframe and stuff )

@Vijay1911: Yea, Now I think of it, but I didnt see them at all, anyways. I guess things in front were far more interesting for TV viewers...

@bprags: Has Rossi ever won a close battle??? (Dont Shoot me )

@princesirohi : Dani started Slipping backwards, Typical dani start, but then problems with tyres.

Happy and smiles all over Rossi won after two long years and good to see many Lorenzo haters showing respect now I really didn't think he will make this race he did and also fighted for the podium with eight newly bolted screws .....
Here we had some discussions stating that Yamaha is letting down Rossi and behaving like what they did for spies and Rossi's magic is gone I think they have a answer for both the questions Yamaha and Rossi are bonded if they are together they can make wonders... This is not for any future arguments :P

Cal and Marc wonderful race and the sad victim is Dani he is such a wonderful rider but missing something and the championship every year

Sigh. I see this place is full of fanboys. But no need to get butthurt, really. I'm not downplaying Rossi's past achievements. It's a mere fact that he hasn't even come close to beating Lorenzo in a single session (practices, qualifying or race) in 2013. Getting a victory on a "yamaha circuit" when his chief rival wasn't at his 100% doesn't prove that's he's "back" or anything of that sort. He's a 9 time world champ and I think it's clear that he knew how to win. Now, obviously, it's not Rossi's fault that Lorenzo crashed and broke his collar bone but I'm sure even he wouldn't be fully satisfied with "beating" Lorenzo like this. Which is why I call it a hollow victory for him. And I do notice that all the fanboys here chose to ignore the part where i duly praised Rossi for the good work done in beating Cal and the 2 Hondas.

PS : Just to be VERY clear, I don't have any favorites in MotoGP. I just enjoy good racing and i'm rooting for Marquez and Crutchlow this year, because they have been the most exciting to watch.

A win is a WIN, doesn't matter if, the defending champion was fully fit or not or whether someone lost his focus because he wanted to pee in the middle of a race.

Yes, most of us here like Rossi. The world does! But, at the end of the day, we all want the best man to win and we honestly appreciate everyone on the grid when they show moments of guts and glory.

Good vocabulary there. For all fans of the sport who take pride in themselves that they do not have any *favorites*, you are shallow! And obviously any attempt to reason or counter-argue to such *fans of sport* is countered with adjectives like "butthurt", "fanboy", etc. Very convenient, ain't it? And why? Because you are not a fan of any particular racer who actually makes the sport what it is?!

In a sport where points are important in each race of a season, a victory is not hollow unless other racers drop like flies and that wasn't the case today. Ofcourse, guys like you will not hold back from giving their critical opinion (because you don't have a favorite right?). However, the confidence with which *experts* like you declare the quality of a win for a racer like Rossi is simply amusing. When, with a win like this, it is said that Rossi is back, it doesn't mean that now he will simply win following races and eventually the championship. What it means is that Rossi still has the ability to do it and that he hasn't lost it, which fans-of-sport like you often like to assume. This win relives the trust of uncountable Rossi fans around the world that he can still do it even when his age and the much younger competition make it ever so difficult for him.

He won this race by a good margin of 2.1 seconds over both Hondas and that isn't easy even for the best in form. If Lorenzo was alright in this race, I would still assume that this time Rossi would have given him tough fight for the win. It's on pure logic, I think this is Rossi's first race in this season where he had the best start at the beginning of the race. So this time he didn't have to waste his time fighting with the guys in the 2nd group like in earlier races.

The remaining season is suddenly exciting!

At no point did I insult/downplay Rossi or his abilities or his achievements and YET people have this tenancy to take personal offense (since you don't like the word "butthurt") and be all defensive. Now, If I were to continue conversing on the topic and reply to you, you'd just take it as personal offense again and I have zero interest in playing that game right now. So, that's the end of it.

That last lap incident when Cal was just a few cms away from Marq could have been an ugly disaster. Surprisingly, the boys after the race could just laugh it off and sort it out! Brilliant.

I like Cals attitude after race, he lightens the Mood(for now ). They still were laughing about it before heading towards the podium.

I didn't take this personally, relax, 'cause otherwise you might have received a PM! I just had problem with words "hollow win" (if you might be curious to know), and I just gave my opinion on how it is not. That's it. Good night to you.

From Assen to Arab to America, it's Rossi all over for the first time in 2 and half years for the right reason.

It was so refreshing to see all these 3 onto the podium. As commented earlier cal lightens the mood, Rossi's return to the top step is always good for the sport. What can we say, Marc has always impressed this was never short of an amazing ride.
I didn't believe Jorge would ride at all, but as a fan of this sport, I love his spirit and my respect goes to his brave act for this weekend. 5th place was more impressive.
Overall a very entertaining and enjoying race for me. Weekend all justified now. Love rossi👍
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

I never understand this, when Rossi struggles, it is a battle between Rossi Fans and other fans. When he wins, it is a battle between Rossi Fans and others. Why!!!

From David Emmett's round up of the race -

Assen is a special circuit, and this was a special race. A special win for Rossi, and a special performance for Lorenzo. There are weekends when you want to give it all up and go and do something more sensible. Then there are weekends like this, that remind you of the passion that motorcycle racing generates, in those that practice it, in those that watch it, and in everyone involved in it. This is a wonderful sport, and the 2013 Assen MotoGP round was a reminder of just how good it can be.
