        Thanks for the link man.

        Absolutely fantastic race...loved it!

I wish the video quality was better, no wonder Dorna hasn't bothered to get it removed yet. :-P

Pedrosa is/was always known for his launches. People called him "Pedrobot" since, he acted like one. As Rossi says, he's very light and power to weight matters! Well, to further this aspect more, he is pretty bad with racing on tyres that are getting chewed/degraded, an issue that has cost him a lot many races. This is where Rossi excels. Honda has better acceleration and also, makes more horsepower.

I heard(read) Pedrosa uses short shift for first 2 gears.
I understand this is good for the start, but I dunno how it works for the whole race.

Number game - Rossi now has 4646 points from GP races. Well, I didn't count! Some bloke(s) had the madness to do that.

rider weight can not make that much difference specially when you are riding a 250+ hp bike

Yes it can Prince. Pedrosa is just 5'3 or 5'2 and weighs around 52-53kg only. While other riders all weigh more than 60Kg, just except Marc who is 59kg I guess.
We are talking about 8-10kg of extra weight.

In racing they say, best way to be fast, is to be light. not even horsepower can beat that if done in the same proportion.

The difference it causes is may be a few milliseconds from 0-100kmph. But in a sprint to the first corner that's enough to win the drag race.
By a few milliseconds we are only talking about an advantage of 1-2m. By which Pedrosa is usually in front of others in the first corner entry.
Moreover Honda gearshifts are in the range of 0.010 or 0.015sec while yamaha shifts in 0.038 or 0.045sec. So while Yamaha changes gears, the Honda's have actually started progressing on the next gear which gives the honda's an advantage or atleast 4-5kmph (if not more) in every gear change, compared to the Yamaha's.
Again that's enough to win a drag race to the first corner.

Really? Then, why do they spend millions of dollars for research to work on weight saving strategies(read - parts)?
However, weight is a just factor. But, it all boils down to the riding skills and the machine.

Well, we do read Emmett making a lot of noise on how 'slow' the racers are and how they complain that they cannot push the bike during the first half of the race. When the fuel gets burnt and lowers the load, it's a much better feeling for them. Ask Lorenzo or Rossi if, you want.

what i said was it does not make that big a difference, so that weight alone will put the bike ahead of other by more than one bike length. eveybody know the heavier the rider+bike is slower it will accelerate. what i wanted to discuss was what is making honda extra quick during the starts, quicker than only weight alone can do.

yes i know the petrol load and later part of race etc. ....even if i want... lorenzo or rossi won't talk to me....he he

Its not just about weight and seamless gearboxes. Pedrosa has a knack of hitting the front before the first corner. When you are starting of the second row, you need to be able to position yourself perfectly to be able to hit the front. That is where Pedrosa excels, seeing the lines everyone else is taking and managing to get off the line of the guy in front. Added to that is the weight, gearbox etc.

Every rider has their strengths, like Rossi has the brakes
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I feel that there should be a balance when it comes to the weight and the height of a rider. Too small, you are wrestling the bike and too heavy, you are a buffalo! It's an overall package - himself and the machine that has helped Dani to launch/ride in a such a fashion. Amazing how he pulls off the feat when he is a Lilliput.
