Ducati 899 Panigale spyshots confirm rumours of EICMA launch

    L

Looks like the rumour on the Ducati 899 Panigale as featured in our earlier article isn’t a rumour at all. Italian Online Motorcycle Magazine Motociclismo have managed to procure spy pictures of the Baby Panigale aka Panigalina reportedly clicked in Lecco, northern Italy. To start with the cubic capacity on the side cowl has been hidden with adhesive tape. Stated to be a pre-production sample, the picture as reported earlier clearly shows a new dual sided banana swingarm in place of the exotic looking single sided swingarm. Also its reported that other exotic bits would be taken off the Ducati 899 Panigale that includes the front Ohlins suspension now being replaced with equally meaty Showa forks. Also the dual side banana swingarm is said to be from Sach’s instead of Ohlins TTX36 as seen on the Ducati 1199 Panigale. The 5 spoked alloy wheels though different in design to its elder sibling would most probably sport the Marchesini brand.Coming to the most important part- the engine is being speculated to be a new superquadro (oversquare) rather than a bumped up 848 or the new 821cc motor found on the 2013 Ducati Hypermotard/ Multistrada. Power figures are being reported in the region of 150 to 160 bhp with the rev limiter placed at 11,500 rpm.The pricing of the Ducati 899 Panigale is being speculated to be similar to that of the Ducati 848 Evo Corse SE, but with added tech and sophistication. The 899 should be up for exhibition at EICMA 2013 and a formal press announcement from Ducati on the baby Panigale is expected next month or October.

    Cheers!

U.S.A. about a recall.
NHTSA had been conducting an investigation into the Ninja 300 after receiving several complaints from owners. Of the 36 complaints on NHTSA dating as far back as Feb. 22, owners reported engines stalling when pulling the clutch lever to slow down or downshift. One of those complaints reports the rider was hit by another vehicle after the engine stalled, fracturing a shoulder.
Several members of KawasakiNinja300 forum (a part of the Motorcycle.com forum network) have also reported similar problems.
Dealers will remedy the issue by installing a new engine control unit (ECU). The recall affects 745 units in Canada. We’ll have more information about the problem including how many units in the U.S. are affected when NHTSA posts a recall on its website.

Interesting to see if they do the same in other places including India. Engine stalls are bad !

But all I came to know was it had the ABS problem, and now this pops up. Strange!! Don't get me started about India.

    Cheers!

Sad to see all these riders crashing and losing their lives with the same reflecting in the Moscow SBK Race. Just sad to see the passion and their demise on the machines they loved.

Motorcycle racer Bill Warner dies after Suzuki Hayabusa crashes in 300 mph attempt in Maine

LIMESTONE, Maine -- A motorcycle racer trying to top 300 mph died Sunday after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern Maine.
Bill Warner, 44, of Wimauma, Fla., was clocked at 285 mph before he lost control but it was unclear how fast the motorcycle was traveling when it veered off the paved runway and crashed, said Tim Kelly, race director the Loring Timing Association, which hosted "The Maine Event" at Loring Air Force Base.
Warner was conscious and talking after the crash just befor 10 a.m., Kelly said, but he died about an hour and 15 minutes later at a hospital in Caribou.
"No one will touch Bill's achievements or be the type of racer he was. He was a personal friend and the land-racing community is less for his loss," Kelly said.
Riding his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, Warner previously hit 311 mph on the same course in 2011, using 1.5 miles of pavement. That's considered to be the world land speed record for a conventional motorcycle, Kelly said.
This time he was trying to hit 300 mph using just a mile of pavement, and he'd made several passes before the one in which he crashed, Kelly said.
The Maine Event is an annual timed speed event that utilizes the 14,200-foot-long runway at the former Strategic Air Command base that closed in 1994. The Loring Timing Association uses 2.5 miles of the runway for its events, and there's an additional buffer of 2,000 feet, Kelly said.
On Sunday, about 400 spectators watched as Warner began veering right after passing the 1-mile mark, traveling upright for another 2,000 feet before exiting the runway and crashing, Kelly said.
The remainder of Sunday's event was canceled. The Limestone Police Department and Maine State Police were investigating the crash.

Steve Quam is a 67 year old who suffers from Parkinsons. But this has not stopped him from his love for motorcycles. He still rides high on his motorcycle and bicycle.

Five and a half years ago, Quam was diagnosed with Parkinsons, it cannot be cured, so he has set about raising funds and awareness for Parkinson. He suffers from extreme fatigue due to this, which makes riding his cycle or bike, very difficult. He has motorcycle 16000 miles to Alaska and back with his condition.

He will be heading out to Colarado where he will take part in a grueling 78 mile mountain bike ride.

    Paper Pulp Helmet
    =============

A low cost, recyclable, bicycle helmet for use in conjunction with the London Bicycle Hire Scheme. Manufactured from waste newspapers that circulate the London transport network.

Newspapers are collected and blended with water to create a pulp. No bleaching or adhesive is added although an organic and food safe additive is also combined that ensures the helmets water resistance for up to 6 hours of rain. Natural pigments to communicate helmet size is also added.

Helmets are intended for short periods of use and can be disposed of back into waste system. The helmet and strap are fully recyclable and can be re-pulped into a new helmet without any degradation of the material.
