    1. The Chassis and the swing arm are made of a special high tensile steel
    2. Even the CRF150R makes about 13NM of torque - Thats a PURE honda
    3. You messed up on the royalty bit. Heros survival is what bailed out Honda during the recession
    4. How is your inability to take it anywhere the companys fault
    5. The CRF150 I mentioned also sells in 2011, its nothing to do with nostalgia. Its a genre of motorcycling that has been around and would stay
    6. Mileage considering what?

        • More Info on Impulse

Hero MotoCorp has just announced the pricing of the first product that the motorcycle maker has launched after breaking up with long time alliance partner, Honda. The Hero Impulse 150 dual purpose motorcycle will be priced at INR 66,800 ex-showroom New Delhi. At this price, the Impulse is only slightly pricier than the rest of the 150cc motorcycles it competes with but considering the completely brand new segment Hero Motocorp is seeking to establish with the seemingly niche Impulse 150, the pricing seems very competitive.
The Hero Impulse 150, as its name suggests is powered by a 150cc four stroke engine that generates a peak power of 13.8 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 13.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm. All the power and torque produced by this 150cc engine is transmitted to the rear wheel through a five speed transmission. The Hero Impulse 150 is based on the Brazilian Honda NXR Bros and is a dual purpose motorcycle designed to work well, both on the road and off it.
The motorcycle comes with conventional telescopic front forks that provide a high amount of travel, which in this case is 180mm while the gas charged rear monoshock has a travel of 150 mm. These figures are significantly higher than that of commuter motorcycles in the 150cc segment of the Indian motorcycle market, underscoring the dual purpose nature of the Hero Impulse 150.
A high set riding position with a saddle height of 835 mm, a 12 liter fuel tank, knuckle guards, dual purpose tyres and massive ground clearance measuring over 240 mm are the other interesting bits of this dual purpose motorcycle. The Hero Impulse 150 weighs a light 119 Kilos which means that the performance from the 150cc engine will be sprightly to say the least. The Hero Impulse 150 will be launched just before Diwali even as Hero Motocorp has begun shipping this motorcycle to Hero dealers across India.
Meanwhile here’s word about the Impulse 150 from Anil Dua, the vice president(sales and marketin) at Hero Motocorp,

The Impulse is the first bike from us which will be sold only under the Hero brand. We have already started dispatches and it will soon be available at showrooms in metros and Tier-I cities. As per our agreement with Honda, this bike is with the support of their technology and we are not selling it under the Hero Honda brand. Considering the dual purpose of the bike and the features it has, this comes at a slight premium compared to other normal 150-cc bikes. We are not positioning this as a niche segment bike. We are targeting all the typical 150-cc bikers who have a desire to do off-road activities with their motorcycles. We are not looking at this bike as a niche product, but trying to have an extensive market reach.

                • Pricing doesn't sound comfortable at all. Instead, I would prefer 2 stroke bike like RX 100 or something for off roading purpose Immense power because off roading is something which we don't do frequently.

For the riders who have girlfriends, I dont think so you will give your beloved such an uncomfortable ride

Even I can convert my pulsar 150 into an off road bike with the least expenditure which is more powerful then this Impulse as per the specs being disclosed.

For people working in some corporate house, taking this bike to your workplace seems weird!

I am still skeptical about this bike's success rate!

                    • @adp228: how do you know that the seat is uncomfortable? The Pillion seating comfort majorly depends on how the seat is designed and where the footpegs are situated. Looking at the pics, the seat looks pretty long..intact, this bike should turn out to be more comfortable for rider and pillion On bad roads considering its purpose! And buddy, yes you can turn your pulsar into anything you like, even an off roader. Let's see How well it runs after that!

Upgrade to a bike which I wanted to buy for a long time, but not available yet. January or February is when I expect that model to hit.

I did not expect the Ninja to go so soon - but what do you know, the money was in my bank only within a week of posting the ad!

Rs. 60,000 on road but certainly this bike will be touching Rs. 70,000 on road. With KTM entering into India soon, Hero can be into trouble very soon In fact, a COURAGEOUS step.

As the company claims to position the product for off roading, I don't think so they will waste their money on making the seats comfortable and if they are doing so then the positioning goes for a toss. At the same time, positioning this bike as a commuter bike with such a high price. I mean this is crazy.

I am not saying the initiative taken by Hero is useless. Its new and fresh in the market as there are no off roading bikes being produced by Indian brands like Bajaj, so the company needs to be very clear about their offering to the customer in each and every market because the competitor will pretty soon attack this product as they are aware they may lose the market. But surprisingly, Bajaj had clearly stated in Economic times that their competition is not Hero but Honda and that to its international market.

Now if Hero says that it will targeting the tier 2 cities and small towns where people expect economy and good price which wont burn their pockets to the core. To attack this market segment, Bajaj is launching Boxer 150cc (similar segment) with a lower price and fuel efficient engine.
