I own 1 and I think I can comment on this

Pricey at that time - 1.02 Lakhs in 2002
    Poor Mileage - Max 25
Poor Management & no vision during the time of launch
Poor Marketing & Funds to advertise
Poor Channels & almost all franchisees had closed by then except for their own stores
RE was on the weaker side during that time & LB / TBTS actually revived the situation of RE, if they would not have launched these models by now RE would have got shut down

This is what I can think about and there can be multiple other reasons too

On Highway it gives around 25, but within city ride less than 20

          • Guys, any idea if at all the TB500 chassis would also come with the 350cc engine ?
Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

Another reason could be this is a Real Time Mileage Indicator and shows real time figures .
Guys, i think this is an AVERAGE SPEED INDICATOR and not a FE Indicator. Look closely in the pic and you can see "KMPH" next to 22 and not "KMPL"..

As for RE fuel efficiency, it all depends on riding style.. My friend consistently gets 30+ in city and 35+ on highways in his C500..

I think this is a cool bike.. Have to see the pricing and the handling part (hope its not as scarily top heavy as C500 versions) before putting down the money on this vehicle..

              • Around the 7th of July I and my brother were on a trip to Dun and Mussoorie. While I was clicking some pics I saw a bike pass by which i thought looked remarkably similar to the TB 500 that i'd seen at the auto expo.

The same day while we were looking for a place to stay in Mussoorie I saw the same bike parked there and it indeed was a TB 500. Some how it never occurred to me to click some pics then or notice its regn to know more about it. But I guess the launch must be right around the corner.

                    • What could be the advantage of unevenly placed fuel cap ?

I dont see any advantage in it. Its a signature style of TB 500 like ninja 650 mono shocks(not sure of advantage in this).
                        Check out this
The tank cap is placed asymmetrically on the top right hand side of the tank, instead of the conventional central mounting; a distinctive styling element of the Thunderbird 500.
Initially I thought it will help when refilling as the Gun would not come in contact of tank(as its BIG). but the cap is on right side

What I have experienced in my electra that when I go for tank full and if i park it on side-stand than some petrol spills out of the fuel cap (sometimes) . Due to this reason , I always prefer to park it on center stand or go for tank full with bike parked on side stand . This could be one reason for providing it asymmetrically on right side.
Just one thought came to my mind , not 100% sure though.

                            Its just a retro style.
There is nothing to guess here :-P
They wanted to do something with the tank and they did that.
Without releasing the bike they are doing all sort of craps around.
RE is just playing around and miss-using there reputation.

Dude I am getting sharp 30 FE on my C350... then how is it possible your frriend is getting 30+ on C500

I had the last fillup at 980 kms and today the bike got in reserve at 1310... so its straight forward 330 kms in 11 leters...

I maybe the worst rider but still it just can't be possible that the average of a 350cc and 500cc engine is same...

Or please tell what I am doing wrong to get such a low average

your c350 is giving less mileage it should be close to 40 km/l
