I'm not sure w.r.t CL500 but i own TBTS and have clocked closed to 17k kms, and even i'm getting an avg of around 32-35km/lt in city and i have friends who own cl350 and even they say they get the same avg. But for the 1st 3k kms i used to get around 36-38 constantly after 3k i got my silencer changed so i guess that caused the mileage drop.Originally posted by lovish View PostThere ain't no devil, ther'e just God when he's drunk.

I also own a TBTS, and have done some changes to the bike, like goldie silencer, 18" rear wheels.
But I am still getting mileage of around 35-37 in the city.
I changed the plugs to Iridium spark plugs.
After that the mileage has increased.______________________________________________________________

Complete run in first then check for mileage. Its too early to check for mileage. Check spark plug tip for proper fuel combustion.Originally posted by lovish View PostI had the last fillup at 980 kms and today the bike got in reserve at 1310... so its straight forward 330 kms in 11 leters.
Probably you lost fuel just to hear that soundOriginally posted by jayanth_b_p View Postafter 3k i got my silencer changed so i guess that caused the mileage drop.
Hey can you tell the ODO reading on your bike ? Just wanted to know if mileage is consistent.Originally posted by surajit09 View PostI am still getting mileage of around 35-37 in the city.

Mine is 1180 km run TBTS with 18 inch reear tyre meteor 100-90-18, irridium plugs front tyre replaced to 90-90-19 zapper from classic series, it returned an average of 42-43 km/lt in both mixed run of city and highway. Highway run included speeds of 65-70-80 and few bursts to 90-95 km/hr.Originally posted by kantu View PostComplete run in first then check for mileage. Its too early to check for mileage. I have not tuned the engine for too much of mileage.
If you run the engine on a lean mixture, then you probably will get more mileage; around 40-43 in the city. But you will be running on a hot machine.
So i am running on a some sort of balance. I get around 35-37 in the city now. They guy in the service center, did tune it very properly.
On the highway i do get around 41-42 if i ride at a speed of 70-80.
At speeds of around 100-120 the mileage drops a bit to around 37.
I have tried all sorts of riding, and i think that the mileage can never go down from 35. If it is not even giving 35, then surely the bike is running on too much rich mixture, or the spark plugs are not working properly
Let me know if i have answered your question or not
What i feel is that you are running on too much of lean mixture. This is my second TBTS, and i have done enough of the experiments; i have learnt that if you are getting 42-43 in the city, then its a hot machine dude.Originally posted by oilburner View PostMine is 1180 km run TBTS with 18 inch reear tyre meteor 100-90-18, irridium plugs front tyre replaced to 90-90-19 zapper from classic series, it returned an average of 42-43 km/lt in both mixed run of city and highway. Matte Black is gorgeous
Matte black finished Thunderbird 500 looked gorgeous at Auto Expo. They didn't allowed me to sit on it but it looked good. Much better than plain black but I am unsure how easy it will be to maintain the Matte finish. Projector lamp looks a bit odd but should be a boon for night rides on the Manali-Leh highway
I feel tail lamp assembly of the classic series should have been used on this bike too since it's just so damn good. Rear disc brake is something very sensible from RE and they should give an option to classic owners to get it fitted from the company
Strength is measured in pounds.
Speed is measured in seconds.
Courage...

Finally the launch date is here. Royal Enfield will finally launch the Thunderbird 500 in the Indian market on the 11th of October 2012. The 500cc version of the Thunderbird was first unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo. It has been a long time coming but due to production constraints, the Chennai based motorcycle maker had to postpone the launch. The Thunderbird 500 has many changes compared to the Thunderbird 350. Not only does it sport a more powerful engine, the motorcycle is also the most advanced Royal Enfield machine till date.
Royal Enfield has given the Thunderbird 500 front and rear disc brakes. The front sports 280 mm disc and the rear sports 240 mm disc. This is a first for a Royal Enfield motorcycle. The Thunderbird 500 also receives projector head lights with LED. The head light is a 55 watt unit. Power comes in from the Classic 500′s 499cc, twin-spark, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which belts out 27.2 BHP of peak power at 5250 RPM and 41.3 Nm of peak torque at 4000 RPM. This torquey engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
