If grapevines are to be believed, they're aiming for 90% localization once their plant is up and prices are supposed to drop down to as much as 1.5 odd lakhs. Amen to that, I say.

If they can do that, then surely , its be a sensational hit.

Lets see , might as well add more spice to the 250 market.!!

But that drop in cost would certainly come at a price i.e. cheap quality. Already people are complaining about Hyosung's build quality and poor after sales support. I just hope DSK doesn't go the Garware way and bring some fundamental changes to current Hyosung's India operations !

Very optimistic pricing for a brand that has failed twice already. I've owned the comet for 7yrs until February this year. It was definitely a good bike but with loads of short comings. It sold well in 2005 cause you didnt have any other legal option.
But now?
The Hyosungs don't justify that kind of a price tag unless the 2012 GT250R is miles ahead in terms of what it was in 2005. And beats or at least meets what the Ninja provides in terms of performance, finish & A.S.S.
Am sad that the euphoria about the relaunch had to end this way. But am sure there will be special pricing for a limited period offer pretty soon!

Even if the quality remains the same (I trust made in India stuff ) it will take some time... But will they survive till that time...?

What.... 2.75 lac, which means around 3lac on road, i dont think GT will able to find people in india with this pricing....even someone will buy n650 with more 2lac only.....

Ninja a better bet, better build, bullet proof engineering and good after sales service.


Hyosung: Changed partners 3 times, 1st times: horrible after sales service, 2nd time partnership barely lasted a year, 3rd time: price of 250 is kept at an unbelievably high price. If one has the money to hit 3 lakhs on road, he will pay up the premium 20k to go for the Japanese green mean. Until they make the price reasonable, i don't see many 250 Hysungs going off the shelf.

Localization doesn't certainly mean cheapening of Quality. Many car companies (Like Renault, Nissan, Ford, Hyundai) are setting up excess capacity factories in India just because it is cheaper to Manufacture in India and export to the developed world rather than produce there. This is done even though companies like Renault/Nissan hardly make any sales in India. 70-80% is exports only. This doesn't mean that Renault/Nissan/Ford/Hyundai cars made in India and sold in EU are of Cheap Quality.

Even when the localization happens, it's not happening soon enough. The reality is that they have announced the price and the motorcycle doesn't sound promising enough at this price point. It has nothing but over-sized looks to attract attention. Performance wise it doesn't beat Ninja, and GT's price is going to fall more or less same on-road! Even when compared to CBR250R, GT doesn't beat it any convincingly if it beats it at all. Infact Overdrive and Bike India already put GT behind CBR in overall performance, these two being very premium auto magazines. CBR's value for money quotient in 250cc segment has just become even stronger!! Also put into consideration that Kawasaki and Honda are much stronger brands.....extremely tough days for Hyosung ahead with this pricing.

Localization isnt a big evil like you guys make it. Pricol makes a lot of parts for Ninja, that is exported out of India QCd and then imported back to India. Result = A markup on the original price!

This is absurd pricing, IMO over shot by a good 30000rs. Though I would not be surprised if this still outsells the Ninja250 in the due course of time.
The 'informed' segment is a tiny one. Out of this tiny segment, there are people who want the "Sporty" ergonomics. This is way sporty than the CBR or the Ninja. Some tiny market there

This has the looks, sounds well too, and can be easliy mistaken for a BIG bike. So pappus pappa can now save a massive 10Lakh rupees and gift him a GT instead of a Gixxer. Some market here too!

How many times have you negotiated with an Autowala for just few bucks? I am sure.. you must have done plenty of times. And thats just 40-50-100 Rs. So 2Lacs isnt anything.. Amazing.

Thank God!!! Thank God for the pricing. Did this mistake once. Was about to repeat it. But God up in heaven acts in mysterious ways :-)

Hyosung I wonder why has this habit of venturing with conspicuous partners in India. Previously it was Kinetic (of all 2 wheeler manufacturers) and now some sunfilm maker. I still have my 2003 Hyosung GF170 Laser in my garage a remarkable bike albeit doesn't run anymore. Does not run due to absolute lack of spares.

But as they say love is blind & this blindness would have led me to sell my perfectly fine Pulsar 180 UG3 and go for this Chica Bonita. Lets face it the CBR250R is outright Fugly as my Maruti ALTO. It's practical that's it. The Duke is just not my type. Why sell a Pulsar 180 and get a Pulsar 200NS or whatever? An the Baby Ninja is off limits. And then Day dreaming starts if the Comet were around 1.2-1.5 lacs then maybe a stop gap bike until something better came about. But then the pricing - that brought everything back to normal. Now that this bike and the Ninja is in the same price range - Comet is now out of the buylist (for better) & Ninja remains intact in the wishlist. Another thing is you get stuck with these kind of bikes. It's very hard to get a buyer. This is because the bike will sell in 50s or 100s will wont be able to sustain production and eventually production will stop. That will ensure end to spares and after sales service. Even if you do find a buyer they'd be ready to pay a very meager amount. You'd be better off keeping it back or giving away the bike for free.

Having said this I wished that Kawasaki Ninja looked as beautiful as the the Comet. It is the best looking quarter liter I have seen in my life (Totally IMHO).

Wished the Duke had a full fairing!!! I wouldn't have considered it then, would have bought it instead.

Wished Triumph Daytona 675 would be available at it's international price in India.

Will continue to wait for a proper 250cc to launch here. Doubting if it's gonna be a Yamaha. Coz Yamaha definitely going the Hero Honda way by pricing their products at a high premium. Going by that even if they launch a R25 it's gonna be the most expensive bike in it's category. If I'm wrong then Ladies & Gents we have a winner!!!

If that were to happen, what about the resale value of the bikes which will be sold in the next few months, or until that becomes a reality...Pricing will sound a death knell to hyosung
