He was riding cautiously around 40kph and honestly, I didn't like the way it sounded one bit.

All in all non enthusiasts will never know if the D390 is actually or 390 or 200 since the only saving grace for the 390 is its tacky Orange wheels and '390' branding on the tank
Bro don't the cbr 150 and 250 look similar in the same uncanny way? This is Bajaj's original strategy. One it adopted for pulsar series. .150..180..200...parts sharing leads to lower costs and cheers for us enthusiasts. More money to buy gear or accessories or in this case powerparts for the duke. You get a European exotic for less than half the price, one that motorcycle news(mcn.com) rates well above the ninja 300 which is highly overpriced! Either you love it and you admire it or better yet buy it! (The same colours of orange are used on the rims and chassis of the RC8R as well btw.) Else pls keep the degrading comments to yourself fellow bikers... duke 390 is a real bike or call it a treat for the enthusiasts by the enthusiasts (bajaj n ktm).

It sounds really good post 5k rpm. I say that as I've ridden it thrice for quite a long distance.

Bajaj was kind enough to offer an exotic at a less than expected and mouth watering price. The engineers spent a long time fine tuning the machine to suit a variety of needs and purposes.

Kindly ride one first buddy.

guess the after market exhaust upgrade would be costly...

thinking if air filter upgrade can lift the sounds a little better?

Rode the Test bike in Delhi today around the CP inner circle a few times. Even with the Bajaj attendant sitting behind me, it brought a huge grin to my life. In this world of diet alternatives, its like suddenly being served full cream punjabi lassi, with a generous dollop of malai on top. The only time i experienced such automotive nirvana was when i first rode my newly bought Pulsar 180 after years of riding the Bajaj Legend.
Whatever God of autodom you pray to, whether its torque, speed, balance, agility or just that plain feeling of your pants being on fire, the Duke 390 will not leave you unrewarded.
I've ridden the Ninja 250 over long distances and it just felt like a faster version of my pulsar with more onlooker-attention than i care for. I also owned the first gen 200 Duke (february 2012 deliveries) and that was a bike that made me forget everything else (office, traffic, heat, the impending recession, the price of petrol) in its mad pursuit of gears and revs. That bike has now been sacrificed in the pursuit of a few (a lot) more bhp.
To anybody in love with the idea of biking, with the holy trinity of the man, the machine and the tarmac, i would suggest, nay request, to take a test ride.
This bike is a spiritual thing. It doesn't give the hooligan a bad name, just that the street fighter has now grown up and wearing a pin striped italian suit and smoking a cigar.
For once, the sequel is better than the original. Cheers

I guess, simply orange rims doesn't necessarily mean its a 390 coz I have seen many D200 with those.

Took test ride of D390 in lajpatnager. The are is quite conjusted and max i touched was 60 but that 60 was in first gear with pillion . The bike is fast than my D200 but it doesn't feel like going fast on it as it is doing same speed with lesser rpm and in lesser gear.
Not sure but first impression is not mind blowing as i was expecting after riding 200 for more than a year.
I wud say for city riding there is no bike better than D200. Put it in 6 gear and u can from 40 to 100 n then from 100 to 40 with ample torque in lower rpms to make overtaking a breeze without much of gear change.
But in open stretch it begs for mercy as due to utlra short gearing the rpm dies quickly and u r doing high rpm when riding it beyond 100 and it feels you are pushing/stressing the bike.
But still as of now i like my D200. Will take one more TD of D390 and then decide whether i can remove ad from olx for my D200.

How about Yamaha R1 then? 160 kmh in 1st gear.
Now, THAT is amazing!

pp180 - So, would you characterize D200 to be a better STREET bike than D390?
And D390 to be more suitable as a weekend rides bike?

It sounds people who test rode D390 but don't own D200 are really amazed by the bike, but those who own D200 are slightly disappointed, or at least have expected more...

If it matters to anyone, let me state that if I ever happen to get a Duke 390 (which I probably won't), I would promptly change the decals to those from the 200, hence ensuring that:
1. None of my non biker acquaintances/colleagues ask me for *ride* (its just a 200 after all).
2. I get saved from 'Kitna deti hai?' question.
3. The bike doesn't attract unnecessary attention when parked.
4. It remains a wolf in sheep's clothing, a sleeper which can surprise and hurt the egos of the unsuspecting poser badly .
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

For those who are not happy with Orange Rims... I suggest you to use the color pattern of 1290 SD.

I am beginning to be a bit concerned about the 390 now. The only reason is the lack of reviews. MG postponed the review. No other major reviewer like autocar or overdrive have come up with their reviews on the Indian version. Moreover I dont see why the reviews should be delayed because of small tweaks. MG can only write the review about the bike he got to ride.I dont understand how a delay will change his views and opinion unless he has been given a new bike with changes and given time to ride and change his opinion.
The roads lead nowhere and hence, they lead everywhere.

Actually there is a difference between CBR150r and 250r, the 250r looks bulkier and easily spotted. have not seen 390 in real yet so wont comment on that.

The ktm might be a European but its made in india now so you will get it at lesser cost, nothing much to discuss about why we are getting that bike cheaper then japs like ninja. if you say that ninja is overpriced than ktm then you might wanna check out that ktm390 would be exported to other countries just like ninja is imported. anything that gets exported or imported will have higher price tag to it. manufacture ninja in india and see the costs coming down simple as that.

have ridden 200 before, will be going for a test ride of 390 this weekend.

Trust me Europeans are more costly then japs there is a explanation for that if you are smart enough then you will guess it.

Hehe, I'm not sure that will solve the "problems" you listed.
I STILL get the questions and attention with D200, and 390 looks practically identical so it won't get much more attention...
If it looked different then yeah, but I don't think it will with the same looks... People are attracted to new looks.

Just called up KTM BTM. I am told that the test ride bike has come but the test rides itself would be offered four days from today.

Is there any other dealer offering test rides in Bengaluru as of now? Anybody having experience interacting with the showroom in Mekhri circle?

I agree Europeans are more expensive but the point is we are getting it at a cheaper price and the mcn.com rated it above tge 300 ninja saying the ninja would easily bore you out soon.
