Better question would be is there an owner of a z250?
I'm really surprised in fact that an ownership thread hasn't started yet. The bike is quite comfortable and refined and the build quality is superb (though the price does leave a lot to be desired).

Just inquired: Z250 has a 2 month waiting period in Pune, whereas N300 is readily available. No ownership thread on any site and already on waiting.

Kawasaki has now given the Z250 ABS and Slipper Clutch for model year 2015. These safety features will be offered on Z250 bikes in all markets.

I think it is better to wait for 2015 models and spend some extra money, as ABS & slipper clutch can't be installed at a later stage. When are they usually available? In March-April?

I went to have a feel of both the bikes at the showroom. The rear part of Z250 and Ninja 300 are same. The difference is in front part and of course the engine. I expected to be bowled over by z250, but I didn't find the looks to be too overwhelming or anything. Sure it looks good and sharp, but it loses out to Ninja. The handle is not too different from Ninja, so it is not exactly a sit up riding position.

Given the lower capacity engine of z250, absense of slipper clutch, petal disc and full fairing, I would say go for Ninja 300 on any day.

Only thing is, Z250 can be happily transported using trains or cargo services. Ninja 300 would be very risky to transport. That is the only supporting point in Z250 that I could find. Even the lower handle of Ninja 300 can be risen upwards by 1 inch by outside accessories, so the handle is not at all a differentiating point.

I feel the Z250 will most likely fail to take off since it's an expensively priced naked with generation old engine. For 2015 they should bring out the Z300 instead around the same price and then we may see some action.

Z250 is priced rs333000 on road gurgaon haryana. even today we do not know from where this bike is imported to india. if kawasaki reduces price by rs30000/-,this will reduce price almost by rs60000/- as import duty will be lesser on reduced price. if it is coming from japan, the quality will be better.

A few days back I was at the Gurgaon showroom and the dealership told me Z250 was 3.49 OTR while the N300 was 3.99 OTR in Haryana.
Z250 is priced too close to N300.

Also it comes from Thailand due to the FTA. Japan-made will push up the price even further.

Few weeks ago I inquired about the z250, it was 3.3L on road here in Delhi. I inquired at the KTM motinagar showroom.

pl. advise about sitting position of z250. any member who has taken test ride may advise about sitting position of this bike. Is it like race track like, sport tourer, or sport commuter .

It is similar to Ninja 300. Slightly up, but not at all close to Unicorn/Bullet style seating. You still have to lean out a bit. I think if you add handle risers and raise the handle bar of Ninja 300 by 1 inch, you will be at equal or better position.

Here is something I noticed while randomly searching through import databases: there are no entries at all for CBU or CKD imports of the Z250, except for one unit that was imported into India for homologation back in Feb 2014. Further digging around suggests that:

1) The Z250s that are sold in India are not CKDs (where ALL components of the motorcycle are imported and assembled locally).
2) The Z250s are thus, SKDs (where SOME components of the motorcycle are imported, some are locally sourced and then assembled).
3) About 60% of the parts from Thailand are imported while 40% are sourced locally (from the 40% localization news by BI on page 2 of this thread)
4) These imported parts (HS Code 8714 that designates parts for motorcycles etc.) attract around 26% duty. I don\'t know if the duty is lesser due to the FTA with Thailand as I can\'t find any data on it.

Given the above, it is my opinion that a Z250 should cost around 2L to assemble in India. So a markup of 1 lakh on a motorcycle that costs 2 lakh for 3L ex-showroom pricing.
Talk about ripoffs of the highest order.

The seating position is not aggressive and is perfect for long distance plus track as you fit tightly around the huge tank!

Z250 is priced very very close to N300. Makes really absurd to go for Z250 in such case. NO ABS, nothing. Atleast, N300 offers slipper clutch, more power. I just can't understand why the HELL Kawasaki not going solo and riding pillion on Bajaj. Bajaj is charging HUGE margin for that!!

BTW, ER6N seating is just sweet, perfect for long hauls

That's exactly the idea, it's a well known marketing strategy. Price it close to the model which you actually want to sell.
